1. Babe: Our emissary to Heaven is now whispering to JonBenét

Good Morning!

Can you stand more on the Bear? The DA's office admitted that they were using the Coldwater, Michigan Police to quietly search for the bear since last year! From the Associated Press.

More bragging about their 10,000 hits at the DA Bear Hunt site, also from the Associated Press.

Creep of the Year? Despite valiant effort to have John and Patsy awarded for the second year straight (after all, they were more creepy in 1998 than they were in '97) the big award went to the "Big Creep", but our favorite parental units came in FOURTH, right behind Linda Tripp, which ain't too shabby considering.

Exclusive: A series of documents from Darnay Hoffman on the Ramsey case, to get us started, we'll begin at the ending - portions of Michael Kane's response to a request to appear before the Grand Jury in the Hoffman files .

Congratulations! BOCO-DA's "sex expert" Mary Keenan has been promoted to Chief Deputy DA for Boulder County.

The internet community has lost one of our leaders and inspirations.

Kate Nance, aka Babe/Postergal/MissMalaprop/Raj/Mira passed away yesterday after a long battle with Scleroderma. Babe was my teacher and the person who encouraged me to build a web site. When I write, I write to Babe. She was my target audience, my muse, my litmus test. If Babe thought it was funny, it really was! She is now able to surf the web freely, able to type without pain. And she'll be able to tell JonBenét firsthand of our dedication. Stay tuned to the Kate Nance page above for details on a virtual memorial service.

TV ALERT: Hard Copy, syndicated, check local listings, entire half hour on the Ramsey case, guests include Linda Hoffmann-Pugh (tip compliments of Jan).

TV ALERT: Vanished Without a Trace, NBC, 8 PM, EST, a mother whose worst nightmare comes true when her plucky and spirited teenage daughter is suddenly missing.

1. ...noshing on Philly-style Hoagies on my deck last June.

Good Morning and Happy Groundhog Day!

Why Coldwater, Michigan? Local AP report on why a tiny P.D. in Southern Michigan was enlisted in the Bear Hunt - very enlightening that the Charlevoix P.D. continues to be involved in the investigation.

Cynical headline from a short Bear story in the current Newsweek - "Intruder Theory AGAIN?" - belies their Ramsey sympathies. Very interesting, reverse spin - maybe the check bounced?

Local view update on the Bear Hunt in today's Daily Camera - greedy DA wants MORE bears (hey, I have a stinky, nappy, dusty one...)

Slightly different and longer version of yesterday's AP story on the Bear Success to date, includes comments made by Pam Paugh on "Inside Edition".

Brief report on the collection of a single "similar" bear from Yahoo's States News Service.

Compilation of opinion polls prove that the "crockumentary" had little or no effect on the opinions of the American public on the Ramsey case (tip compliments of Catnip).

Today's edition of the Hoffman Files - three new handwriting exemplars for Patsy Ramsey, captions to Polaroid photos in a scrapbook (please excuse the quality, looks like a multi-generation photo-copy).

Wouldn't it be awful? If the Grand Jury returns an indictment, charges are filed, but a Judge dismisses homicide charges in the JonBenét case? It's happened TWICE in the last two weeks in Boulder County Courts.

RADIO ALERT: The Morning Show with Peter Boyles, KHOW 630 AM Denver, 5 to 9 AM, MST, will include a round-table discussion on the case. Listen live on the 'net from the Peter Boyles web page (IF the web gods are willing, tip compliments of Brooklyn)

TV ALERT: Hard Copy, syndicated, check local listings - OOPS, the show announced yesterday (a full-half hour on the Ramsey case including an interview with Linda Hoffmann Pugh), will be today instead.

BPD's Ron Gossage

Good Morning!

Two suspiciously similar articles today based upon a report from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation ("CBI") on their Ramsey case efforts to date (an astounding 3,000 hours)...

...the Daily Camera,by Matt Sebastian with contributions by Sandra Fish
...the Scripps wire service, credited to John Sanko of the Rocky Mountain News

Almost a week after the fact, the Daily Camera has gotten around to writing that the defamation lawsuit against the National Enquirer brought by Boulder photographer Stephen Miles has been dismissed.

Today's addition to the Hoffman Files is the "CV" of analyst Tom Miller.

Hot gossip on Perfect Murder, Perfect Town from a source close to the publisher, Harper Collins...

TIME magazine has the exclusive right to run excerpts, part of the deal is that no one is allowed
to see the book before then. Secrecy is so great that the book was printed in the middle of the night, shrink wrapped with a black cover so no one in the printers could know what was being printed, and shipped off in the dead of night. On the back of the dust jacket is a photo of JonBen
ét, (no knows how Schiller acquired it), that is so poignant that there was a great deal of controversy and discussion at HarperCollins on whether to use it.

(Perfect Murder, Perfect Town will be released on February 18th.)

Good Morning!

If you missed the WROW show on the Ramsey case last Saturday night the audio is now up on
AuntieBJ's web page, along with newly enhanced versions of earlier shows.

Today's addition to the Hoffman Files is the Affidavit submitted by handwriting expert Tom Miller...a snooze, but we have to get through this to get to the pithy stuff, tomorrow we'll begin the Questioned Document Examination in five parts.

Subtle, scary but fun even though you can't dance to it - Ramsey Parody song writer/singer/producer Don Wrege's (Media Whore) letter to the Daily Camera urges, tongue in cheek, that we leave the Ramsey's alone, they've suffered enough!

The mysterious John Sanko article on the CBI participation summary that ran on the National wires yesterday, appears in today's Rocky Mountain News.

Babe's revenge? Not much surfing going on in Boulder yesterday... part of the roof is gone from the temporary home of J.T. Colfax, the Boulder County Jail. JonBenét's school, Martin Park Elementary, was also hit. by high winds, power was knocked out at the Justice Center AND the Cop Shop...yep, that was our Babe.

Sabrina Watch: The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department web site has been spiffed up, so if you are monitoring this case, here's a must-have bookmark (tip compliments of Linda).

Here's one that I missed, from Tuesday's Denver Post, Karen Auge on the Miles/Enquirer lawsuit
dismissal .

Worth checking this week, the Boulder County Ten Most Wanted includes three child molesters and one child abuser. One is on the lam from California and believed to be in Boulder, home of delayed justice.

Do the tabloids define the decade? With mention of JonBenét among other tabloid mainstays like John Wayne Bobbitt, from yesterday's Washington Post.

DOH! We said BEAR, not BARE - witty juxtaposition of the sad ending of the Miles saga as the Bear Hunt takes center stage from Westword, scroll down to "Oh, never mind, then", the second story from the top (tip compliments of Sally).

Transcript of Tuesdays edition of CNN & Company contains a brief summary and discussion (bottom of this page) on the Bear hunt and what it says about the state of the Ramsey case investigation.

Stale, but it's from a weekly - the Boulder Planet catches up on the news of the Bear Hunt with update on the number of hits the DA web site has gotten (20,000).

Unrelated case to watch: Ten people are standing trial in Colorado Springs for perjury for lying to a Grand Jury investigating a murder - what a novel idea!

GSquared on Pearl Street

Good Morning!

Good news (and good riddance), the Bear Hunt is OVER! That's right kiddies, cease and desist - Alex has quite enough bears, thank you very much...

For you analysts and theorizers out there, here is the actual text of the Press Release canceling the Bear Hunt (compliments of Masked Man)...

"NEWS RELEASE, Thursday, 2/4/99.
From: Boulder County District Attorney Alex Hunter.
Re: Search for information on toy bear is successful.
One week after we requested help in learning more about the manufacture,
distribution and sale of a toy bear connected to the Ramsey case, we are
pleased to report that we now have the information we needed. We are
confident we have identified the sources where this bear could have been
obtained.

Our office received 130 E-mail messages, 160 phone calls, 4 faxes, and 20
pieces of mail in the past week, and our website had 28,000 hits. Three bears
were turned over to us.

I want to thank the media and the public for their assistance.
Contact: Suzanne Laurion, Media Liaison, Boulder County District Attorney"

The Bear Sucess is also noted in today's Denver Post and in today's Daily Camera, (and while
you're there, scroll down to the last news brief, another inmate bit the dust at the Boulder County Jail - maybe Winter Storm "Babe" scared him to death?)

And, as testament to the fact that this is, indeed, a story of national interest, the Philadelphia Inquirer has an original story on the Bear Halt from Hunter.

Cute (and amazing) typos in the KMGH Denver TV 7 version of the Bear story, I'm sure glad they didn't have 100,000 emails...

Today we'll begin the actual Questioned Document Examination ("QDE") submitted by analyst Tom Miller on the Hoffman Files, it's so long and detailed, I've broken it down to five segment which will be released through Tuesday.

The Peter Boyles web site bulletin board is offline pending transition to a registration-required format (note: this page is under construction, and we can only hope that they learn how to spell "bulletin" too).

Three stories on the Ramsey case will run in the February 16 issue of The GLOBE, and can now be seen in the Joshua-7.com archives, but beware, they are all "Burke-did-it" angles.

In some good news for their case, a short version of the Gracie Bonds Staples article on the Edna
Rodriguez case has been picked up by the Knight-Ridder service to run nationally, the father of the abducted and murdered child is cast under suspicion but the media has largely ignored this case in ironic contrast to the Ramsey drama.

TV ALERT: Miss USA Pageant, CBS, 9:00 PM, EST, it has sequins! it shimmies! it's tacky! don't miss it!!!

(UPCOMING) RADIO ALERT: Tomorrow, Saturday, 2/6, Dave Lucas Show on WROW, midnight to 4 AM, EST, listen live on the 'net via Real Audio, guests include Darney Hoffman and (ATTENTION 'GRITS'!) Dale Yeager, phone lines will be open all night, for caller questions, 800-976-9590.

(UPCOMING) RADIO ALERT: Monday, 2/8, The Erin Hart Show on TalkSpot, listen live via Real Audio, 9 AM to Noon, PST, segment on the JonBenét case with guest pundits to be announced.

Patsy gesturing

Good Morning!

The instigator of the recent Bear Hunt was Patsy Ramsey herself, so Greg McCrary says "you have to look at it in an entirely different light"... from Charlie Brennan in today's Rocky Mountain News.

Stale hype: The DA's Bear Hunt page was selected as a "Site of the Week" by KSHB Kansas City
Channel 41 (halfway down the page), yee haw, (yawn).

CNN coverage of the cease fire with related story links.

Yahoo's wire story takes the assumptive leap that the Bear was found "on the Internet" - Ya? How?

Another brief UPI wire story on Hunter officially calling off the Hunt.

(The bear is dead, enough already...)

Today's addition to the Hoffman Files is the second of five parts of the Miller QDE, this portion
addresses disguised handwriting.

Her friends in the Scleroderma group have created a lovely tribute page for Kate Nance ("Babe") - have plenty of tissues handy.

TV ALERT: Investigative Reports, "Copycat Crimes", A&E, 3 PM, EST, how crimes in movies are often imitated in real life.

this case may last...

Good Morning!

This AP story based on Charlie Brennan'c revelation that Patsy was the one who claimed the bear was a mystery, has gotten limited distribution today.

Today's installment on Hoffman Files is the third (of 5) page of the Tom Miller Questioned Document Examination, focusing on shape of the letters.

The Globe web site is now updated to display the February 16th issue, with bannar headline on the Ramsey case.

Rest up this week in preparation for our case to fill the void left when Monica, Monica, Monica ends this week - so predicted in this column in the Sacramento Bee.

1. JonBenét on the cover of a Maylasian tabloid

Good Morning!

Are we ready to step up to the plate? Fill the Void? Another column bemoaning the loss of Monica as fodder - this one threatens to return to JonBenét (get your resumes ready!)

Haven't seen one of these in a while: Boulder County baseball bat attack by a group of young thugs, ages 14-17. (Are baseball bats the weapon of choice out there?)

(Excuse me, but I find this case fascinating...) A teenager who lied to a Grand Jury to provide an alibi to a murderer has pled guilty and will be sentenced in late March.

Today's addition to the Hoffman Files is the last page of the Tom Miller Questioned Document Examination. Tomorrow we'll begin with the documents from November '97 court filings by Darnay Hoffman to compel prosecution based on the Colorado Revised Statute #16-5-209.

LIVE CHAT: The Mining Company Crime Guide, "Missing and Murdered College Students", 9 PM, EST, relatives of victims will take part. (Note the change to 9 PM, EST despite what the index page says.)

TV ALERT: Inside Story, "Shooting Stars - The Paparazzi", A&E, 9 PM EST, those photo-journalists we love to hate, who are a thorn in the Ramseys' side.

1. Get out of Jail Free!

Good Morning!

Bear on the "Lamb" - Fox News Legal Analyst Andrew Cohen takes a stab at "L'Affaire Bear" and hopes that a search for the Easter Bunny is not in the offing.

Same old...you can photocopy these reports on the Grand Jury and just spit them out every Wednesday and Friday - second story from the top, right below another Boulder plea bargain...

Mad as Hell? No? This will refresh your memory, Darnay Hoffman's complaint filed in November 1997 to compel prosecution, one way or another.

No matter the circumstances, if you are a "victim" and you lawyer-up, you'll be compared to John and Patsy...

The latest Boulder plea bargains are allowing budding terrorists off easily - surprising the Feds didn't scream. And (Warning: Deviant Duct Tape Use ahead...)Oops, there goes ANOTHER plea bargain...kerplop!

TV ALERT: Oprah, "Multiple Personalities", syndicated, check local listings.

1. Giving Bad Seed a run for her money

Good Morning!

Reads like a stock offering - Lifecodes, parent company of Cellmark Diagnostics, test lab for JonBenét DNA evidence, and the history of the use of DNA in criminal cases.

Always informative, this week's issue of the Boulder Planet Week in Review column has short pieces on the dismissal of the Miles suit and the end of the Bear Hunt.

Today's addition to the Hoffman Files is the affidavit by Darnay Hoffman that accompanied his complaint to compel prosecution in November 1997.

Whither Justice Watch? Due to a technical problem, (not a virus, not a hacker, not a lawsuit...) the forum got knocked out yesterday afternoon, but is up and running, with a temporary primal scream forum "Arghhhhhh!", while the discussion files are restored.

Finally a similar attack! 15 year-old boy charged with the attempted murder and sex assault of a 6 year old girl.

UPCOMING AUDIO ALERT: Monday, 2/15, The Erin Hart Show on TalkSpot, listen live via Real Audio, 9 AM to Noon, PST, segment on the JonBenét case with guest pundits to be announced.

TV ALERT: 48 Hours, CBS, 10 PM, EST,"A Time to Kill?", man is accused of a committing cold-blooded murder, but was he really defending himself against a sexual predator?

Good Morning!

News is slooooowww, but it's allowing us to rest up for next week, so I overslept just to prove it...

Finally a tabloid article worth reading! Of course, it's from the Globe, Mom's Confession! Read the shocking transcript of her police interrogation! in the February 23rd issue.

Today's addition to the Hoffman Files is a list of similar characters as compiled by analyst David Lieberman.

Warms my heart - Murderer of child appeals, is retried, convicted AGAIN, AND HAS twelve years added to his sentence. Justice and vengeance at work in Arapahoe County, Colorado.

AUDIO ALERT: Monday, 2/15, The Erin Hart Show on TalkSpot, listen live via Real Audio, 9 AM to Noon, PST, segment on the JonBenét case with guest pundits to be announced.

1. Puff Piece

Good Morning!

The Rammers are preparing for their testimony and another JonBenét book is on it's way! Both tidbits from Charlie Brennan. I am in SHOCK that Steve Thomas is writing a book...

Find out more about Steve Thomas' publisher, St. Martin's Press, by visiting their web site (and check out the "FAQ" page, it's a hoot!).

Steve's co-author (ghost writer?) is Don Davis, who wrote Hush Little Babies on the Routier case, and other St. Martin's True Crime library quickies.

Don Wrege new audio file "Always Patsy" at the bottom of the play list, a tasty deviation (no, I don't mean Don is a deviate!) from past format, enjoy! While there, note that Don predicted that Steve Thomas would write a book in a earlier parody...

Can you stand more excitement? The Globe web site is already updated to feature it's 2/23 issue, with Patsy dominating the cover, and summary of the "Mom's Confession" story. Tré sordid.

What? No "JonBenét's Mother: The Tragedy and the Truth!"? You can tell that it's one of "us" who won the FIRST ANNUAL Westword JonBenét Trivia Contest, just look at her comments (but she spelled "Jacque" wrong, tip compliments of AK).

Speaking of quizzes, how well did you do with yesterday's comparison of Patsy's letters with the Ransom note - today's Hoffman Files addition identifies the writing and the source material.

First sign of JonBenét stepping into the Monica void...Fox News will be airing four Ramsey case segments, with promo beginning the week before.

Okay, pull out your Daytimer, here's the lineup for the upcoming week...

Tomorrow/Tuesday - Newsweek, excerpts from Perfect Murder, Perfect Town in the issue dated 2/22, sometimes the web edition hits on Sunday, sometimes items from the print edition are withheld ...

Monday - JonBenét Ramsey case segment on The Erin Hart Show, Talkspot.com, 9 AM to Noon, PST, interview with Chuck Green of the Denver Post, and moi...

Monday/Friday - Hard Copy, (someday next week, will advise of the correct date), interview with Frank Coffman and moi...

Tuesday - Dateline, NBC, with Larry Schiller ...

Tuesday through Friday - FOX News Network, four 4-minute segments with Carol McKinley updating us on the case, interview segments with Schiller and - NEW - a family friend who hasn't spoken to the media before (oooooh!)...

Wednesday and Thursday - Today Show, NBC, interviews with Larry Schiller

Thursday - Release of Perfect Murder, Perfect Town (heh, heh, I know a bookstore that opens at 7:30 AM, EST, heh heh)...

Thursday - Roseanne, syndicated, hour-long program will have Enquirer reporters telling the "latest shocker on the JonBenét Ramsey murder investigation"...

Thursday - Internight, MSNBC, Interview with Schiller...

See, I told you it was going to be a nutty week, rest well...

1. Happy Valentines Day

Good Morning!

The hype is happening - gossip column on the security surrounding the printing and distribution of Perfect Murder Perfect Town - remember, you read "shrink wrap" here first...

Uproar over the Steve Thomas book has reached the East Coast, from the New York Post.

Daily Camera article on the Thomas book and the surreptitious meeting between the Rammers and their criminal defense lawyers in yesterday's issue (missed our deadline).

Even UPI has picked up the Steve Thomas book story, proof that I wasn't the only one shocked.

Can JonBenét win a second news cycle? More post-Monica hand-wringing from the New York Post.

Overslept, running late, had no time to do a scan for the Hoffman Files today, so instead please revisit the handwriting comparison done by Frank Coffman that has been available on the Justice Watch site since September, interesting to compare the characters to the Lieberman/Miller samples.

Thar she blows! New York Post interview with Roseanne (see also Thursday TV Alert below) on her editing duties for an upcoming issue of the National Enquirer.

Adjust your calendar, buy some blanks, here's the updated schedule for Schiller-Week...

Today - News Chat, MSNBC, 5 to 6 PM, Darnay Hoffman, Chuck Green and Jerralyn Merritt discussing the Ramsey case...

Today/Tuesday - Newsweek, excerpts from Perfect Murder, Perfect Town in the issue dated 2/22, sometimes the web edition hits late on Sundays, sometimes items from the print edition are withheld ...

Tomorrow - JonBenét Ramsey case segment on The Erin Hart Show, Talkspot.com, 9 AM to Noon, PST, interview with Chuck Green of the Denver Post, and moi...

Tomorrow - Judge and Jury, MSNBC, 1 PM, EST, will include something on JonBenét (tip compliments of China)...

Monday/Friday - Hard Copy, (someday this week, will advise of the correct date), interview with Frank Coffman and moi...

1. Mommie Dearest

Good Morning!

Newsweek...(OMIGAWD)...excerpts from Perfect Murder, Perfect Town...(LIONS, AND TIGERS AND BEARS, OH MY!) ...now, I know you want to read all eleven pages, but print it or download it, because there's a lot more news below...

(Reliable Source: Not even in distribution yet, a second printing of Perfect Murder, Perfect Town goes to press on Friday.)

AP reporting on the Schiller excerpts, notes the "hard side" of Patsy's velvet hammer act. Chilling.

Reuters has also picked up the story, in a similar version to the AP's, ensuring world-wide distribution (wonder what the Brits will make of this? tip compliments of Linda).

Seeing clearly now, great summary of the whole mess from the team at the Denver Post.

Kusa, kusa, kusa - The RamFans at Denver's KUSA TV-9 offer their unique spin to the wire stories on the Schiller excerpts - "reignite" debate? When did it stop?

Excerpts from the excerpts in today's Boulder Daily Camera. I can't help imagine the good citizens of Boulder waking up this morning and reading this, GULP! But they could close their Borders and not let the book get sold in Boulder County...

Blast from the Past: Why the Shrink Wrap? New York Post on the Boulder source wars of the summer of '97. Wish you were here...phone home Annie!

Apologies to David Liebman for misspelling his name for weeks, his Questioned Document Examination, comparing the Ransom note to Patsy's exemplars is today's addition to the Hoffman Files.

Many additions and corrections to the hectic schedule this week below, if you notice an omission please email me so everyone can see it. All times are Eastern unless otherwise noted...

Tonight - Internight, MSNBC, 7 PM, EST, John Gibson promised a Ramsey discussion on tonight's show...

Today/Friday - Hard Copy, (someday this week, will advise of the correct date), interview with Frank Coffman and Mrs. Brady (does this make me a "pundit"?)...

Tuesday - Geraldo Live, CNBC, 9 PM, EST, yep, he promised, and he has "case experts" lined up to talk JonBenét (though it would be true justice if no one showed up and he and Marcia had to fudge it)...

Tuesday - Dateline, NBC, 10 PM, EST, interview with Larry Schiller ..."some never-before-broadcast details on the murder of JonBenét Ramsey, from an author with unprecedented access to the case" ...

Tuesday through Friday - FOX News Network, 7 PM, EST segment, Carol McKinley updating us on the case, interview segments with Schiller and - NEW - a family friend who hasn't spoken to the media before (oooooh!)...

John Eller speaks! In an exclusive interview with the Denver Post, on Hunter setting him up for the fall.

Another victim... Steve Thomas as a target of the Globe...I would write a book too, if only to vent.

Chuck Green column Boulder's Dirty Linen - looks like Chuck has found his rhythm again!

If this seems disjointed, it's because more excerpts were published yesterday in the Rocky Mountain News but withheld from the internet edition due to "contractual reasons".

Pale in comparison to the Denver Post coverage, Matt Sebastian has an article today focusing mainly on the Rocky Mountain News excerpts that ran yesterday...

It rumbles across the country - Bluefield, West Virginia's WVVA TV-6 brief mention of the book release implies it will be shocking...

And this report caused my husband to run screaming through the house, from Philadelphia local NBC affiliate WCAU-10

(At this point, I ought to just call all my friends and relatives and warn them not to bother calling me when they see this stuff...)

Who is this man who is causing all his trouble? Read the Harper Collins official bio of Larry Schiller.

Today in the media...

KHOW, Morning Show with Peter Boyles, with guests Jeff Shapiro and Frank Coffman, 7 AM-11 AM, EST, KHOW-630 AM, Denver...

Today Show, NBC, 7 AM, EST, Dan Abrams and Charlie Brennan on Perfect Murder...interview...

CNN, Live chat, 8pm EST, "Spend a chilling chat hour with John Douglas, the FBI's legendary profiler. Douglas' book Obsession is out in paperback."

Geraldo Live, CNBC, 9 PM, EST, yep, he promised, and he has "case experts" lined up to talk JonBenét (though it would be true justice if no one showed up and he and Marcia had to fudge it)...

Dateline, NBC, 10 PM, EST, interview with Larry Schiller ...""New details on the murder of JonBenét Ramsey Anchor Jane Pauley reports on some never-before-broadcast details on the murder of JonBenét Ramsey, from an author with unprecedented access to the case." ...

See also the Wednesday-Friday listings in yesterday's edition...

Off book - Another threat, another Monica story, yadda yadda yadda...roll out the dead kid, here we go...

6:00 AM, MST, Wednesday 2/17/99 (day #784)
Day #171 of "Green Light" to provide media endorsements
Days until J.T. Colfax is released - 146

1. Good Morning!

No one's perfect - the first run of Perfect Murder, Perfect Town has a few errors...the official version of the corrections you should pencil in can be found here.

"A REAL EFFORT TO DERAIL"...raises "OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE ISSUES"...source quoted by KMGH Denver TV 7 (ABC).

Bummer - Governor Bill Owens will not intervene over the latest JonBenét scandal, says will stay the course through the Grand Jury hearings.

Instead of "no comment", Steve Thomas is talking - a lot - here is the transcript of his interview with Charlie Gibson on yesterday's ABC Good Morning America.

Denver Post coverage of Thomas' implication that Pam got caught with her pudgy hands in the cookie jar, pilfering evidence from the Hell Hole.

Uncooperative Governors are the norm here, as evidenced by the non-response by former Governor Roy Romer to Darnay Hoffman's plea that the CBI's handwriting lab be investigated, today's addition to the Hoffman Files.

We sensed it - but seeing it in black and white makes it tangible! Investigation was FUBAR from the first minute, and the tension was palpable, from today's Denver Post.

Chuck Green: This case was doomed before the murder even occurred.

The results are in (on Hunter Vs Eller Vs The Globe Vs Jeff Shapiro Vs Steve Thomas) - and it's a collective yawn from the usual cast of legal pundits who do commentary for the Rocky Mountain News.

(Interesting flotsam - RMN columnist Kim Franke-Folstad has a commentary on this mess in today's edition, but it's be yanked from the online edition...hmmmmm...)

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Tabloid industry...the National Enquirer and The Star have been sold for $300 Million, the new management calls them "under marketed" and is sniffing out possible broadcast versions of the broadsheets.

Took them a few days to recover, but now the Rocky Mountain News is ready to put their trademark spin on the Schiller fallout, with a headline only Lisa Levitt Ryckman could love, "Evidence Points to Intruder!" (yep, and I bet he has bushy hair...)

PMS? (PostMonicaSyndrome) Schiller and his explosive book on JonBenét are the remedy according to the Washington Post.

Chicago Sun Times gossip columnist Irv Kupcinet has dubbed the duct tape traces "snippets", more jargon to deal with.

Looks like a book review, smells like a book review...must be a book review, of Perfect Murder, Perfect Town in today's Daily Camera (note the odd disclaimer at the bottom of the page...)

AP coverage of Steve Thomas' call for Hunter's resignation on GMA yesterday.

Jailbird Patsy? JT's Cellmate? Article from Matt Sebastian in today's Daily Camera expounds on the rumor that the BPD wanted to arrest Patsy as a means to gain a confession from her, or John, or both.

More from Matt...should Hunter be tarred and feathered and run out of town? A look at the allegations that he used The Globe as a means to an end - Eller's.

Homespun and simple - (I like the Longmont Daily Times-Call's coverage, they don't parse!) Reactions and non-reactions, denials and undenialdenials on the Schiller book from B.J. Plasket.

Today through Friday - FOX News Network, 7 PM, EST, 4-minute segments with Carol McKinley updating us on the case, interview segments with Schiller and - NEW - a family friend who hasn't spoken to the media before (oooooh!)...

Today - Internight, MSNBC, 7 PM, EST...

Tomorrow - Release of Perfect Murder, Perfect Town...

Tomorrow - Today Show, NBC, interviews with Larry Schiller, Matt Lauer and Larry will go down the list of alternative suspects in the case...

Tomorrow - Roseanne, syndicated, hour-long program will have Enquirer reporters telling the "latest shocker on the JonBenét Ramsey murder investigation"...

Tomorrow - Internight, MSNBC, Interview with Schiller...

Tomorrow - Geraldo Live, CNBC, Interview with Schiller...

Friday - This Morning, CBS with Schiller......

Monday - Entertainment Tonight, syndicated, check local listings, interview with Schiller...

Monday - Barnes & Noble On-Line, virtual book signing session with Schiller...

Days until J.T. Colfax is released - 145

1. Good Morning!

Book will have no impact on the case, according to Greg McCrary, Mark Beckner and Arapahoe DA Jim Peters.

The Boulder Planet Week in Review column has a brief article on the release of the Schiller book and upcoming publication of Steve Thomas' memoirs.

Peoples Republic takes on Alex Hunter and his odd relationships drawn by the very talented Matt McKown

HOT HOT HOT! Perfect Murder,Perfect Town may not "hit the shelves" - reserved copies and advance orders may have eaten up the stock, a second printing starts tomorrow...

Longmont Daily Times Call coverage of Steve Thomas' comments on GMA on Tuesday. Hunter makes an off the cuff comment. Tsk, tsk.

Drat, should've listened to the FBI! Patsy was about to say something, but her attorney stopped her.

Schiller: Case is "not strong enough to convict", with comments from Crazy Aunt Pam, compliments of Lisa Levitt Ryckman.

How to get around it...just say "I can't remember" like crime scene expert Linda Arndt. Spare me.

More scoop from Julie Hayden at KMGH - is Don Foster's linguistic analysis doomed due to invalid evidence collection?

Gloves are off! Or - If you want to know something (about the case) just ask...is the subtle message from Columnist Clint Talbot in his view of the "rhetoric about the investigation's integrity ...pretense in the first degree" in today's Camera.

Interview with Larry Schiller in today's Daily Camera, admits the book does not solve the murder.

Will 'Perfect Murder' be a one month wonder? The Camera's Matt Sebastian on the hype and marketing during the pre-release days.

The Rocky's Kim Franke-Folstad who has an excellent grasp on Ramsey case priorities, we should bottle it.

Part one of the four Fox News Network reports is available here on a streaming video, complete with very expensive looking and extensive Ramsey case overview.

Today - Release of Perfect Murder, Perfect Town...

Today - Today Show, NBC, interviews with Larry Schiller, Matt Lauer and Larry will go down the list of alternative suspects in the case...

1. A JonBenét view

Good Morning!

Sorry about the service interruption, there's lots of news and unique information below in our Wednesday and Thursday issues, so please be sure to scroll down to those links as well. In particular, note that the errata on the first printing of Perfect Murder, Perfect Town is now up and the transcript of Steve Thomas' interview on Good Morning America.

The Ramsey Grand Jury took a break yesterday, probably because of the release of PM-PT- and embarrassment over that part at the end of the book about the Grand Juror who is consulting an astrologer on the case (only in Boulder...)

The Justice Watch forum has unveiled New software this morning, if you experience problems, please DON'T EMAIL ME (have enough of my own).

Transcript of Larry Schiller's interview with Jane Pauley on Dateline is now up on the MSNBC site.

Boulderites Karen and Justin Mitchell are celebrating the release of PM-PT with polls on the case and a Boulder murder mystery tour - be sure to vote early and often!

The Mitchell's have always had a healthy dose of respect for our case - evidenced by this look at Larry Schiller's early adventures in Boulder...

Boulder Bytes - July 28, 1997 - "Not Even Ethan Allen" -
"As The Ramseys Turn," the JonBen
ét Ramsey murder investigation, drags into its eighth month of gestation, and the banality of it all has begun to seep out like so many gruesome details of Little Girl R's final moments. While a cadre of international news hounds were summoned back to Boulder at the recent release of Ramsey autopsy findings, Larry Schiller literally back-doored his way into the Ramseys' domicile, now up for sale. Schiller, a portly media opportunist, frequent cable TV talking head and O.J. author of "American Tragedy," quietly has spent the better part of June and July in Boulder working on "a piece for Tina." On a scorching July afternoon while chatting with acquaintances on Boulder's Pearl Street Mall, Schiller explained that "Tina," as in Brown, editor of The New Yorker, has asked him to do an in-depth Ramsey piece. "It's not a whodunit," emphasized Schiller, reassuring himself as much as his entourage. "I'm just looking back at 20 years, and at how this has changed Boulder." Schiller, of course, has no more idea of what Boulder was like 20 years ago than does 85% of the current populace -- residents who count themselves as "natives" because they remember when Hagan Daaz charged $9.95 for a single scoop mango-chutney cone instead of $12.99. But affable Schiller did gain easy access to the Ramsey home
. In mid-July, after movers carted away vans-full of Ramsey furnishings, Schiller discovered an open back door, strolled in and voila, found a fount of bland taste. "The drapery rods and drapes were still up," reported a rather surprised Schiller, as if he were writing for House Beautiful. Instead of the haute sophistication he expected, Schiller was taken aback by the ordinary look of Patsy Ramsey's decor. "It was like bad Ethan Allen." So desperate were reporters for Ramsey tidbits, Schiller says, that one young tabloid reporter actually registered for classes at the University of Colorado, Boulder, in order to bond with John Ramsey's son from a previous marriage. "Then the reporter went to the same church as Ramsey, Episcopal," Schiller said. "And the reporter is Jewish." No word on whether he took communion.

Upcoming events...

Monday - Entertainment Tonight, syndicated, check local listings, interview with Schiller...

Monday - Barnes & Noble On-Line, virtual book signing session with Schiller...

Good Morning!

They say "get a life", we say "get focused" - and now so does the Governor...Owens blasts Boulder!

They say they don't care, they say they want it to go away, but the newest JonBenét book is flying off the shelves, even in Boulder!

Another brief mention of the book, at the bottom of Chuck Green's column yesterday (both of these articles missed our Friday deadline), a prediction from Larry Schiller on the case outcome.

Book review/summary of content from B.J. Plasket in yesterday afternoon's Longmont Daily Times-Call.

Summary of an interview with Schiller, revealing secret interview techniques, from CBS News.

Today's addition to the Hoffman Files is the affidavit of handwriting expert Cina L. Wong, yet another one saying that "Patsy did it".

The tabloids for the week of March 2nd are now available on the Joshua-7 Archives, including a shocker from the Enquirer - "Parents' vicious fight hours after murder"...

Tuesday night's Dateline-NBC set a new viewer record with it's look at the Ramsey case and interview with Larry Schiller.

Shades of JonBenét - or 'only a dream' - convicted sex offender tried to lure a 4 year-old girl out of her home in the middle of the night.

AUDIO ALERT: WROW, midnight to 4 AM, EST, talk show with live chat and internet audio feed, tonight's topic is kidnappings and murders of college students and campus security with Ramsey case analyst Dale Yeager of Seraph Consulting.

Good Morning!

ROFL! Charlie Brennan and Kevin McCullen (RMN) are sniffing around the shadowy "JonBenét Children's Foundation", with hysterical comment from Frank Coffman...maybe ABC/Dianne Sawyer paid the foundation for their hell hole tour in August '97?

(Okay, who was it who did all that research into the Foundation? Dianne, Teri, Questioner? Now's the time to haul it back out...)

Is it really 'Perfect Town'? - Boulderites on Boulder and the conflicting apathy and antagonism in the book.

Today's issue of the Hoffman Files has added the resume of handwriting analyst Cina L. Wong - tomorrow we will release Wong's "Questioned Document Examination" comparing the ransom note and Patsy Ramsey's unrehearsed exemplars.

Artist/Arsonist J.T. Colfax comments, in his inimitable way, on some of the content of Schiller's book. Subtle, but very JT...

BTW - in the first day of sales, PMPT was the # 1 selling book in the USA.

Passing comment on Steve Thomas and his upcoming JonBenét Book (near the bottom of this page) - shows the classic Boulder cynicism is alive and well.

Proactive: How parents of victims ought to behave - Parents of intended molester victim take to the street to warn others "They can stick their privacy you know where."

Last night's 'Mad TV' (FOX) had a comedy skit on the Ramsey case... (summary by Milo, reprinted without permission)...

"The skit was about the Ramsey movie that John and Patsy had written (after a weekend course on how to write screenplays). "Meg Ryan" and "Tom Hanks" were playing John and Patsy. The Meg Ryan character was saying that: "The difficult part is making the characters sympathetic - after all, they killed their " - CUT! - " uh - they're innocent people." Patsy stops the taping at one point and tells Meg "let me show you how I acted bewildered the first time played that part." They had John and Patsy cleaning the basement, washing blood off the dryer, and rolling around the floor together trying to tear the duct tape. They interview John and Patsy and ask how it ends. John says he doesn't want to give away the ending, "but they do get to ride off into the sunset at the end. Scott free."

Upcoming: Tomorrow, Monday 2/22, 9 PM, EST, live chat with Perfect Murder Author Lawrence Schiller, in the Auditorium at BarnesandNoble.com. Questions may be submitted in advance. Registration may be required to chat, allow ample time prior to the beginning to play with those issues and familiarize yourself with the software.

Good Morning!

Back in the saddle again...when the case makes the New York Times (James Brooke on Perfect Murder, Perfect Town), marketing tactics, tidbits and analysis of why America can't get enough, with comments from Michael Tracey.

Her last "FREE" interview... Linda Hoffmann moans about the money to be made in the JonBenét industry - (also a short version of the same article in the Rocky). Call me naive, but I am amazed that people are getting PAID for interviews!

Also in today's New York Times... Journalist pack reaching a fork in the road, will they choose JonBenét over Hillary for Senator?

Gossip - from the Denver Post (scroll down to second story) on rumors of a breech between Charlie Brennan and Larry Schiller, throw in a little J.T. Colfax for good measure, put down your coffee first (or is this sour grapes from the Post that the News is winning the JonBenét wars?...)

A Virginia columnist's ruminations while sick with the flu include the Ramsey case and broadcast news.

Boulder County resident, mad as hell, not going to take it anymore, with the expensive bungling and in-fighting in the Ramsey investigation (second letter from the top).

And they're even talking about the book in Atlanta - summary of PMPT highlights in yesterday's Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Not every story makes it to the on-line edition (giving us a skewed perception), like this one from last Wednesday's Denver Rocky Mountain News...

GLOBE REPORTER DEEP IN SCANDAL - by Kevin Vaughan, Rocky Mountain News, Feb. 17, 1999. - - - He rented an apartment across the alley from JonBenét Ramsey's older brother, hoping to strike up a friendship and maybe win a big scoop He attended John and Patsy Ramsey's church for months, thinking he might find the killer of the child beauty queen among the worshippers. Meet Jeff Shapiro, until last week a scrappy free-lance journalist for the supermarket weekly, the Globe. He now finds himself grist for the latest round of stories on the unsolved 1996 murder, At the center of the storm is news in a new book that Boulder District Attorney Alex Hunter urged Shapiro to dig into the background of a police investigator. "It severely disturbs me that my involvement in this case has been used to attack public officials in the middle of grand jury investigation trying to solve the murder of a 6-year-old girl," Shapiro said Tuesday. Young and aggressive, the 26-year-old Shapiro got the attention of cops, prosecutors and other reporters after he arrived in Boulder in March 1997. His mission was to research the Ramsey murder case for the Globe. "Everybody involved in this case in any capacity know who this guy is," said Newsweek correspondent Daniel Glick. But the respect he earned for developing sources was injured by some of his gaffes, like the ill-fated effort to meet John Andrew Ramsey. "He was all over -- he had such good contacts -- but he blew it, at every stage," said Frank Coffman, a part-time writer in Boulder who has extensively researched the Ramsey case. Coffman's theory: Shapiro got too wrapped up in trying the solve the case himself. "He couldn't distinguish from being a reporter for the Globe and being a sort of investigator trying to solve the crime," Coffman said. Shapiro, a graduate of Florida State University, acknowledged as much. "More than anything in this I really wanted to find justice for this little girl," he said. Shapiro said he was fired after he told the Globe's editor he thought staff members were involved in illegal activity, including an attempt to elicit information from a former police detective. Shapiro's editor declined to comment, and other Globe officials said his termination wasn't prompted by anything he'd done. And next? Shapiro said he'd like to do something with his investigative skills, perhaps as a federal agent. He may write again, too. "I really love what journalism is supposed to stand for," he said. "My personal search for the truth has always meant more to me than my paycheck."

The QDE submitted by document examiner Cina Wong, with a startling conclusion on who wrote the "Ramsey Note", is today's addition in the Hoffman Files.

After a few weeks of silence, a dismal update from the BPD on their hunt for the South Boulder serial rapist, read between the lines and you'll see that this case will be shelved alongside Susannah Chase.

Bagel eaters need not apply: The BPD is still seeking volunteer victim advocates, bring your own Windex.

Ramsey-ana: What do the workers at DIA do while waiting for the shuttle trains to break down, again?

Good Morning!

The overnight success of Perfect Murder, Perfect Town is noted in the current Boulder Planet Week in Review column.

(By the way - Rumor has it that Perfect Murder, Perfect Town will actually be No. 3 this Sunday on the New York Times bestseller list.)

Also in the Planet, cynical suggestion that poor Mr. Schiller is only in this for the money! Ridiculous, but cute cartoon, another keeper.

Very brave, Larry Schiller will be holding a "community forum" on his book at the Boulder library - but the story is another bad link, in today's Daily Camera

Additional items to be corrected in first editions of Perfect Murder, Perfect Town have been added to the Errata page.

Meanwhile, back at the Grand Jury...(scroll halfway down the page)... another day dilly dallying with the AG's case, but they will meet again today (?)...

Our friends Karen and Justin Mitchell have added a new feature to their Digital City Denver column...a JonBenét Trivia Question of the week - enjoy!

Today's addition to the Hoffman Files is the December '97 (one year after the murder) affidavit submitted by Chief Koby in which he basically says he does not know WHODUNNIT and has never discussed WHODUNNIT with anyone...hmmmm....

Rocky Mountain News columnist Bill Johnson comments on registered sex offender lists and paranoia.

What's worse than your child being attacked? Attacked by a HIV-positive rapist - like in Colorado
Springs... the search is on for victims.

My heart can't take it - the National Enquirer goes broadcast - 5 nights a week, yee gads...

Porn Queen? My alter ego, Florence Henderson is suing a T shirt manufacturer using her image as Carol Brady (compliments of Sask and Steven)

Good Morning!

They've had a field trip - and now they're moving on to independent study - some of the Ramsey Grand Jurors become teacher's pets by opting to review files on an "off day"...

Hope they wear bullet proof vests, too bad Boulder frowns on concealed weapons - wire service story on the "Public forum" on Perfect Murder, Perfect Town in Boulder this Saturday.

JonBenét has an Italian site - and here come the Canadians, info/links site from Quebec.

The frenzy to obtain Sex Offender Lists inspired by the Wheat Ridge case (4 year old being lured out of her bed in the middle of the night) has reached Boulder County.

The transcript of last night's Larry King Live includes a comment from Judge Judy (Sheindlin, promoting her new book) on the Ramsey case (near the bottom of the page, tip compliments of Pam).

Our resident intuitive Ruthee has new information on the Santa Bear up on her web site - truly chilling.

A brief Larry Schiller and PMPT mention in today's Boston Globe people column, halfway down the page.

Today's addition to the Hoffman Files is the affidavit supplied by the three attorneys consulting with the BPD on the Ramsey case, filed in response to Darnay Hoffman's November 1997 complaint to compel prosecution.

JonBenét Ramsey and the revival of Roller Derbies, another article grieving the loss of Monica and Zippergate.

PMPT is the number one hardcover non-fiction at Amazon.com, and will be the #3 on the (correction) March 7 New York Times Bestseller list...

But someone who really detests Pam Griffin has been loading the ballot box on the customer reviews section, wonder why?

Quasi related for conspiracy theorists - update on what's going on with the perpetual Rocky Flats saga from Patty Calhoun in this week's Westword.

Frank Coffman at the Hell Hole, 12/26/97

Good Morning!

Frank Coffman is back, after a one-year hiatus, with a scathing article on all the skeletons, muck, and mire that Schiller missed (or misinterpreted, or mistook) in Perfect Murder, Perfect Town...

Not in Schiller's book, a silly story about Patsy, but reveals a lot about her personality. (Warning- this article contains the word "penis", if you don't want to see the word "penis" then don't click on the link for the "penis" story... )

Kill the messenger! Various Boulderites cry foul over purported inaccuracies in Perfect Murder, Perfect Town... (well, if you had cooperated, maybe this wouldn't have happened, eh?)...

The two letters, (one at the top, one at the bottom of this page) referenced in the article above, from the Whites and Jeff Merrick (I'm beginning to wish the Whites word processor would catch a virus, this is what, letter number 5, 6?...).

Today's featured document on the Hoffman Files is Alex Hunter's affidavit in reply to the Darnay
Hoffman November 1997 complaint.

All four major tabloids have PMPT aftermath stories this week, and all are transcribed for you on the Joshua-7.com tabloid archives.

Statistics lie and .... the 1998 Crime figures for Boulder County are in, digested, and spewed forth in today's Daily Camera - with brief, passing references to JonBenét and Susannah Chase, the brass are celebrating! Truly ghoulish...check out the "clearance" rates...

The BPD has been swamped with requests for the local sex offender list (Ninety-three, Perverts,
Ninety-three!), but token bleeding heart points out that it is "inaccurate" (yeah, last time I looked they all lived on "Airport Road", a huh..)

Of course, the 'net! DOH! Governor Owens wants to put the Colorado sex offender list on the internet, just like about 30 other states...

Sick Puppy? Durango (Colorado) man admits sexually assaulting two girls ages 4 and 5, over a five year period.

RADIO ALERT: The Morning Show with Peter Boyles, KHOW, 630 AM, Denver, 5 to 9 AM, MST, interview with Schiller and Brennan...

Good Morning!

Profile of Steve Thomas' co-author of the new JonBenét book - Don Davis - his only problem is
"deciding what to leave out of this book".

Brief, unsatisfying interview with Schiller in today's Denver Post - nothing new revealed that we haven't heard before.

I don't know why lil' ole' me get such grief over inaccuracies when this idyot Irv Kupcinet can spout nonsense in the Chicago Sun-Times, see Ramsey article halfway down this page.

Today's edition of the Hoffman Files contains the affidavit submitted by handwriting analyst David
Liebman.

JonBenét as an example of "hussies or prostitutes" - comment caused the firing of a conservative
