1 TRANSCRIPT OF TAPED INTERVIEW OF GEORGE ANTHONY

5
6 It's uh, 8/4/2008; 11:09 a.m., Eric Edwards; Orange County Sheriff's
7 Office. I'm in the room with...
8
9
10 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
11 Q. Detective Mark Hussey, Orange County Sheriff's Office.
12 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
13 Q. And...
14 A. Uh George Anthony, [BLACKED OUT] , Orlando Florida.
15 Q. And George you freely came in today to help me with my timeline, uh
16 you and your wife both and I appreciate that, is that correct?
17 A. Yes we did.
18 Q. Okay. What I'd like to do is um, I have these calendars that we're
19 kinda uh, trying to put together and make sense of things. Starting
20 with May of 2008 um, from dealing with you wife, telling me when she
21 was on vacation, you may have changed jobs in this, in this time
22 frame but anything in May that stands out, when you saw the baby
23 last or when you saw your daughter, anything like that that could be
24 noted on here.
25
1
1 A. All I can tell you is my wife has watched Casey nearly every day. As
2 far as specific days, I wish I had an exact answer for you on that for
3 the month of May, I mean that's going back...
4 Q. Sure.
5 A. ...three, almost four months now. Um I can tell you is my busy
6 schedule for my work was always Sunday through Thursday, I had
7 Fridays and Saturdays off and I know when I had my Fridays and
8 Saturdays off, that's would say were probably 99% of the time we
9 always had Caylee with us. I worked afternoon shift, 3 till 11, my wife
10 worked days, some days I know my wife brought Caylee home from
11 her work, I can't be specific on those days but that would be days that
12 my daughter would just show up at her work or call her ahead of time
13 and say, "Hey I'm dropping Caylee off I gotta go to work can you
14 bring Caylee home."
15 Q. Okay. One these days talking to your wife, she would leave about 8,
16 8:30 in the morning or 7:20 to 7:30 I'm sorry.
17 A. Something like that, yes.
18 Q. Those were days that um, she, for the most part if, if Casey wasn't
19 staying over at the nanny's uh, she said with the baby um, she
20 wouldn't see them in the morning usually getting ready for breakfast
21 or things of that nature, she said uh, that would most likely have been
22 you cause you go into work later.
23 A. Right.
24
25
2
1 Q. Was there many days during that, you know I mean I'm can't even to
2 say this week but in your life that you know you woke up, we're
3 getting ready for work and they both were there?
4 A. I would probably say most days they were there, as far as specifically
5 what days she might not have been there.
6 Q. Okay.
7 A,. I, I, I wish I could remember, wish I could be specific but I know
8 generally I'd be up like at 7:30, 8:00 in the morning, shortly after my
9 wife would leave and I know maybe like 9 or 10 then that's when
10 Casey and Caylee would come out cause Caylee used to sleep a lot
11 with uh, Casey so or Casey, and Caylee would sleep a lot together. I
12 mean I'd be the one a lot of times giving the little girl her breakfast.
13 You know playing, watching the TV with her a little bit, taking her
14 outside to play uh walking to the mailbox or just...
15 Q. She, she just getting the potty training thing down a little bit there?
16 A. Oh yes, matter of fact she was doing very, very well.
17 Q. Very well.
18 A. Yeah she was doing...
19 Q. And her vocabulary is increasing I would imagine.
20 A. Like a little sponge.
21 Q. Yeah.
22 A. I mean there wasn't anything in the little house she couldn't do, I, you
23 show her how to turn on the TV she knew it. Turn on the uh, DVD
24 player uh, whatever it was. I mean she'd catch on that quick, I mean
25 just...
3
1 Q. Watching everything you do?
2 A. ...yeah, right.
3 Q. Yeah. I've got one now I'm through that's why I'm telling you,
4 everything, I try to select what I say and what I do in front of them
5 cause they rate, they're mimicking you.
6 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
7 Q. You bet cha'.
8 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
9 Q. Yeah.
10 A. I mean we put the child proof uh, locks on the door type thing so she
11 couldn't open the door but she'd be easy enough she could flip open
12 the uh, sliding glass door, (sound effect)...
13 Q. Right out she go.
14 A. ...she would be; I mean she wouldn't go out pass the screen doors
15 we have out there but she at least be out in that area.
16 Q. Uh huh (Affirmative).
17 A. Cause she had toys and stuff out there so.
18 Q. She'd go out the back yard.
19 A. Oh yeah most definitely. Her house uh, anything.
20 Q. Um, your wife talked about it uh, your daughter Casey was out she'd
21 come home usually you know 1 or 2 in the morning sometimes and
22 she...
23 A. Yeah there were sometimes, especially during the week sometimes,
24 we thought that was really unusual cause generally when she was
25
4
1 supposedly working she'd at least be home like 10, 11, but she might
2 sometimes she was staying out till midnight, 1, 2:00 in the morning.
3 Q. Did that get increased, did that increase over let's say June? Did you
4 notice that picking up more or is it just steady...
5 A. In, in May and June, specifically as far as days you know there was
6 just, she would tell us had to stay late, late for an event, event
7 may have got over at midnight or 1:00 she'd have to stay and make a
8 deposit and or make sure everything was closed up type things.
9 Q. The uh, 31st we tried to zero this in, you guys may have gone to the
10 beach um....
11 A. Cindy and I did and we...
12 Q. ...just the two of you.
13 A. Yeah. It might have been Memorial weekend, I, we just went like to
14 Cocoa Beach for the day, like for maybe 3 or 4 hours, 4 hours
15 something like that, 5 hours.
16 Q. Yeah she wrote that through the 31st and the 1st because she knew
17 that was the beginning of her week off.
18 A. Right, yeah cause that was her week of her birthday is the 5th as a
19 matter of fact. We did not, matter fact we watched Caylee quite a bit
20 during that week. Cause matter of fact Cindy originally was wanting
21 to go down and see my parents who live in Fort Myers. She wanted
22 to take a couple days, cause she hasn't seen my parents that often
23 so. Matter fact she originally wanted to go down and see my parents
24 that Monday and Tuesday, she was gonna take Caylee along with
25 her. That was out thoughts.
5
1 Q. It didn't happen; she just knows that she had her that week. Spent a
2 long of time in the backyard, uh, playing with the baby, you work most
3 of, most of that week.
4 A. Yeah I worked that, that Sunday through Thursday. As a matter of
5 fact I can go through, back through my paycheck and be specific on
6 days. I mean I, I know I work for a little bit ever once in a while I
7 went in early so, I mean that, that's, that'd be easy to find. Cause the
8 paycheck that I had for the security company I was working for,
9 they're very detailed as far as hours, dates, that's very specific so.
10 Q. Okay. Alright um, if that comes up or we need that I'll give you a
11 shout.
12 A. Okay. I know I did work the last day of June, was that'd be June 30th.
13 Q. Uh huh (Affirmative).
14 A. Yeah I got, it was a Friday, I got called in that very last, you know last
15 (inaudible) what they call the end of the month type stuff so I got
16 called in on the very last day.
17 Q. I think the big, the big date here that you can help me with...
18 A. Those two days.
19 Q. The 15th and the 16th.
20 A. Absolutely.
21 Q. Um the 17th, I guess, well I'm gonna go back to the 13th and this is
22 gonna e like a ridiculous question but I'm sure you've already heard
23 it.
24 A. No there's no ridiculous question.
25
6
George Anthony/08-74777/YW/08/04/08
1 Q. Did you have a stroke on the 13th that you were treated at the hospital
2 for?
3 A. No I'm curious where you got that at.
4 Q. I'll, I'll shed the light on, on it for you. You don't look as if you've had
5 a stroke last month.
6 A. Yes but a few years ago I thought I almost did cause I did get
7 (inaudible) but that was like 4, 3 years ago. Just before I had my
8 knee replacement and stuff like that but.
9 Q. You daughter it seems has a pattern of that she's made a, a, a um,
10 date with a friend or scheduled to do something if she, if she needs to
11 come up with a reason not to do it instead of just saying, "I don't feel
12 like going," she comes up with some of the, you had a stroke on the
13 13th and she was unable to go to Jacksonville with someone because
14 she was busy at the hospital with you. So it's always on the extreme.
15 A. That's extreme alright.
16 Q. Yeah.
17 A. Cause if I had a stroke I would be sitting here talking to you guys
18 now.
19 Q. I wouldn't think so.
20 A. I mean let's put it this way, if I was this would be sorta like a miracle
21 to...
22 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
23 Q. Exactly (laughter).
24 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
25 Q. That's, I still have to ask.
7
1 A. Oh I know. This is getting so bizarre, this is just unbelievable.
2 Q. Yeah. So now the 14th um, into the 15th I, and for the most part from
3 talking to your wife you guy probably had the baby most of that time.
4 I know for certain the 15th.
5 A. Matter fact yeah the 15th cause that's when my wife, that was, that
6 was that one day we were missed off that one week, yeah she
7 definitely had my granddaughter up in Mount Dora seeing her, seeing
8 her father whose in this rehabilitation center cause he had a stroke a
9 year and a half ago.
10 Q. He did have a stroke?
11 A. Almost, he did most definitely did, yeah. There's some days talking
12 to him he's very coherent and there's other days it's just, he just...
13 Q. He's grandfather, her great, her grandfather?
14 A. Yeah her great grandfather, yes or, or Casey's grandfather yes.
15 Q. See that's interesting because a lot of time she uses things that she
16 knows uh, like friend's names or things of that nature, sometimes
17 she'll...
18 A. Okay.
19 Q. ...mix friend's names or she'll provide a phone number um, that
20 another friend has as someone else's number, that's just what I'm
21 learning from talking to people. So the stroke issue is probably fresh
22 in her mind. The 8th and the 9th...
23 (Phone ringing)
24 A. I'm sorry; I must put this on...
25 Q. That's okay.
8
1 A. Okay. Come on go, go, go, go.
2 Q. No hurry.
3 A. 2 3 1 2 8 8 0, okay. We're just getting so many volunteers calling us
4 it's just...
5 Q. You wanna jump on that.
6 A. ...been like, oh we are. Okay I'm sorry.
7 Q. The night of the 15th when they come back, I know they had chili at
8 uh, great grandma's house cause she made her a peanut butter and
9 jelly sandwich, she's very articulate about that, at 81 she's got a lot
10 on the ball. Um...
11 A. She tough.
12 Q. Yeah. Uh do you remember...
13 A. I was...
14 Q. ...seeing the baby put to bed that night or were you working?
15 A. I, I was working.
16 Q. Okay.
17 A. I was working 3 to 11.
18 Q. Okay when you came home who was at the house at that time, do
19 you remember actually seeing...?
20 A. Well I, I'm, I'm almost positive that uh, Casey's car was in the
21 driveway and I would be lead to believe then that they were both
22 there, Casey and Caylee, I know my wife was there because I got
23 home just shortly after 11:00. And the next morning, or lets put it this
24 way like 10 minutes to 1 that afternoon on the 16th is when I actually
25 saw Casey and Caylee together, they're both leaving with backpacks
9
1 and so my daughter said she was going to work and she was taking
2 Caylee to the, to the nanny, to the babysitter. But I know it was 10
3 minutes to 1 cause I was watching this food channel thing that I
4 watch between noon and 1:00. So I'm positive that, that I know for a
5 dog gone fact.
6 Q. Can you recall what was in her possession on that date, how the child
7 was dressed or how your daughter was dressed or what bag she may
8 have had?
9 A. Okay my granddaughter had her white uh, backpack um, I think it has
10 little monkeys or something on it, like little brown monkeys.
11 Q. White backpack.
12 A. Right. And I know she was dressed in her little uh, blue jean skirt, the
13 white tennis shoes, um..
14 Q. Blue jean skirt.
15 A. Right. She had a pinkish color top. One of those uh, one has a
16 sleeve on it. She had her little sunglasses on, they was white rim
17 sunglasses. Her hair was in a ponytail that day; I remember that
18 very, very well. And my daughter had a decent pair of like dress
19 slacks on, top that she could be wearing to go to work. There's not
20 nothing unusual the way she was dressed. I know she had a
21 backpack full of stuff.
22 Q. What color were her um, slacks do you remember?
23 A. Like a charcoal gray, I they're like pinstriped, like a gray
24 pinstripe through it.
25 Q. Gray slacks.
10
1 A. Uh huh (Affirmative).
2 Q. Uh shirt.
3 A. Like a beige color, matter of fact almost like, not white, but almost like
4 and off white color top.
5 Q. On her way to work.
6 A. yes.
7 Q. Bags um, I know the white backpack with monkeys.
8 A. Right my daughter has a backpack, I think it was; is that the black
9 one or the brown one that she had. She has, she has so many
10 backpacks...
11 Q. But she had a backpack at the time?
12 A. Oh she definitely had some stuff cause she sat it on our one chair
13 that was right there, one lazy boy recliner that we have. She just set
14 it down and she says, "Hey," she says, "I'm a be working a little bit
15 late, uh, Caylee's gonna be staying wit the nanny, I'm gonna come
16 back and stay there and I'll see you and mom tomorrow afternoon."
17 That's not nothing unusual; she's done that a few different times so.
18 She said she already had, he says, "I already talked to mom, mom
19 knows I'm gonna be staying over," I said, "Okay just be careful and I'll
20 see you tomorrow type deal." I was one of those...
21 Q. And that's on the 15th.
22 A. No that was on the 6...
23 Q. Or the 16th.
24 A. That was 16, that was Monday.
25 Q. Alright.
11
1 A. Positively. That's the last time I saw my granddaughter.
2 Q. Plans to stay with nanny.
3 A. Yes.
4 Q. Um...
5 A. Cause my daughter said she had a, a, she was going to a meeting at
6 work immediately and she had to stay for an event. And she said the
7 event would be over again until 11, 12:00 and she wouldn't disturb
8 mom and dad sleeping because you brought up the point about May
9 and stuff like that. Yeah she was staying out later during the week for
10 work related things.
11 Q. She was, in June she started that or, or...
12 A. May, May, a little bit of May and June, yeah it was, it was sporadic, it
13 wasn't always continue, it was, be specific n days I with I could, I
14 wish we'd a written all this stuff down but...
15 Q. You didn't know what was coming.
16 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
17 Q. You had no reason to.
18 A. But then again you know you, you believe your child and...
19 Q. Sure no reason.
20 A. ... some other stuff.
21 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
22 Q. Uh huh (Affirmative). During this time frame, from talking to your wife
23 she's playing hell trying to get your daughter locked down on where
24 she is and where the child is.
25 A. Most definitely.
12
1 Q. Um, did you yourself have conversations over the phone as well or
2 did your wife just run lead on that?
3 A. No I, I know I called her a few different times myself.
4 Q. (Inaudible).
5 A. I can't remember specific days but I'm sure we could bring up the old
6 phone records and they can be very specific of my cell phone cause I
7 would generally call her from my cell.
8 Q. Can you, and your cell George the number is?
9 A. [BLACKED OUT]
10 Q. Uh huh (Affirmative).
11 A. [BLACKED OUT]
12 Q. I have that in my phone already.
13 A. Okay.
14 Q. I don't know what I was thinking.
15 A. Matter of fact we were thinking about just going on the AT&T site and
16 just opening things up. Cause, cause some days I ask my wife, I say,
17 "Did you talk to Casey yet today," "No." I just op, opened a
18 (inaudible), "Hey where you at, what's going on." I've been
19 worried about her car cause it needed an oil change, she needed a
20 bunch of stuff done to it and I keep on, for the last few months I've
21 been saying, "When are you gonna get this done."
22 Q. Did she ever, in the month of June particularly, did your daughter
23 ever give you the car to go have it fixed? Did you; were you ever in
24 possession of that car?
25
13
1 A. I offered to take it numerous times to get an oil change, run it over to
2 the Chevrolet dealership there on uh, 436 by the airport, but again,
3 "Dad I'll do it." I give her coupons for oil changes, just you name it.
4 She did, I wish I could find the receipt, she did have the car towed,
5 she blew out a couple tires, I know it was in the month of June I
6 believe. Or, r, or it could have been towards the end of May.
7 Q. That was um, yeah that was in May.
8 A. May okay, cause...
9 Q. She hit, she hit, I think she hit one of those things on the 408 at
10 Goldenrod, the construction barriers, she popped two tires.
11 A. Oh yeah, definitely, yeah wiped out the rims and...
12 Q. Yeah.
13 A. ...had to have the car towed and I end up putting the old tires at were
14 took off of it because they were sort of not that great. And I
15 purchased a couple new tires for her and...
16 Q. She as at Fusion that night I believe if memory serves...
17 A. Right.
18 Q. ...from talking to the friends. I have that...
19 A. and, and I believe her girlfriend Amy or, I believe its Amy, is the one
20 that gave her the money I think for the, for the tow. It was like 75 or
21 $80, something like that. I know I remember seeing the receipt inside
22 my, her armoire but that I, I don't know where it's at, at the moment
23 so.
24 Q. The receipt?
25
14
1 A. Yeah. The receipt for the towing on the car cause they towed it right
2 back to our house. But at first she said she got off (throat cleared) to
3 the side of the road, then that next morning she got it towed to the
4 house. When I came home there it is with flat tires and stuff so right
5 in the driveway.
6 Q. She, so she had had, she had the car towed.
7 A. Right. Cause she asked me, "Dad what should I do," and I said, "Just
8 have it towed home." I said, "Let me take a look at it." So.
9 Q. I'll bet mom jumped all over her about that huh?
10 A. Not as much as I did.
11 Q. Yeah.
12 A. Cause first thing I said was "Are you okay." You know.
13 Q. Now let the games begin.
14 A. Yeah.
15 Q. (Laughter)
16 A. I said, "You know I've told you about this," (inaudible) it just.
17 Q. responsibility.
18 A. Yeah.
19 Q. Yeah. You got a baby home and you're out, yeah.
20 A. I said, "You know whether you're working late or not you shouldn't
21 be," I, I couldn't understand, if she works a Universal Studios why do
22 you go up the 408 to go south again, I don't understand that. Where's
23 you can go Sand Lake or you could take the 528, you could be there
24 (inaudible), short period of time.
25 Q. Well they'll be a lot of answers when I get this thing done...
15
1 A. I hope so.
2 Q. ...that I can sit down and go over with you cause um...
3 A. Cause we're just racking our brain for everything that's happened,
4 there just...
5 Q. Well but even you can see the significance...
6 A. 13th.
7 Q. ...of asking you if you had a stroke on the 13th, I mean there's just, I,
8 those, those things riddled with things that you'll go "Huh."
9 A. The 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th, and the 13th I had a stroke. That's that's
10 great news.
11 Q. Well you, you had it on the 13th, you're much better now on the 14th.
12 Um, but no time in here, I know, I wanna get to, I want to finish
13 knocking...
14 A. Go, yeah, yeah go day by day.
15 Q. ...these two days out but um, she, so she actually told you on the
16 16th, I plan on staying at Zannie's on a late event?
17 A. Yes most definitely.
18 Q. Mom starts calling, apparently mom says that she had some form of a
19 uh, big deal going on at, at work, a convention. So they were staying
20 at the uh, Hard Rock Hotel.
21 A. That's what she told us.
22 Q. Yeah.
23 A. I mean that's what my wife reiterated to me.
24 Q. You didn't have a conversation, just what your wife...
25 A. Right.
16
1 Q. ...tld you, okay. And then there was, they had to move that to
2 Busch Gardens Tampa area.
3 A. Yes.
4 Q. And that's were Zannie got in her car accident.
5 A. Supposedly Zannie got in this car accident, Casey was following, I
6 guess some distance behind her and Zannie got involved in this
7 accident.
8 Q. Hospitalized at Tampa General.
9 A. That's what we were told.
10 Q. Treated for a concussion.
11 A. Yes.
12 Q. But then the next day the ER nurse discovered a large laceration
13 behind the ear and had to treat that.
14 A. And kept her I guess an extra day or something like that, my, if I
15 remember correctly, yes.
16 Q. Um now Jeff comes to town as we, as we slide down through there
17 but I wanna, this week of the 23rd to the 27th, and this, from this
18 conversation that you had with the, the FBI the other day, apparently
19 there was an incident during that window, that block, where you may
20 have seen her in your wife's truck on the 408. Can you clarify that for
21 me? Was that that week even?
22 A. I'm, I'm, I wanna say it is, we'll have to go back through those um, E
23 pass records.
24 Q. Uh huh (Affirmative).
25
17
1 A. Because I, I went looking for my daughter. I chased her. I mean I
2 saw her leaving with my wife's vehicle.
3 Q. You saw her leave the house or...?
4 A. Oh yeah.
5 Q. Okay.
6 A. Saw her leave the house, driving up Chickasaw getting on the 408
7 and I turned around, I say, "I'm following her." "George, I said, "I'm
8 following her," I said, "I'm, I'm tired of this..."
9 Q. I'm sorry to put you in that position cause I know that that was
10 something you told the FBI in confidence and your wife didn't know
11 and I, I, I was gonna approach it a little different the other day, did
12 you get, when, when that was mentioned to your wife she just
13 completely denied any knowledge of that.
14 A. Well it'd be easy to find on the E pass. Because her E pass, my E
15 pass, we got two separate accounts but that'd be find, very easy to
16 find out.
17 Q. Uh...
18 A. Cause I remember my daughter she drive as fast as she could to get,
19 I, I think she knew I was behind her, maybe she did or not but I was
20 trying to stay at a reasonable distance, maybe it was 100 yards away
21 form her trying to stay in straddled lanes and going back and forth.
22 I know she got off somewhere off Hiawassee or Kirkman Road and I
23 couldn't get over fast enough to find her. But...
24 Q. If you can help me with that that's gonna...
25 A. Okay, I...
18
1 Q. ...that, that's the...
2 A. I can get the E pass statement but you got a specific date I can really
3 relate to
4 Q. Well that's, that's what we, that's what would help the date, if I knew
5 what day that...
6 A. Right.
7 Q. ...event occurred. If she's hitting the, she hitting the toll bills um, or
8 event your account number, I don't mind doing it under subpoena,
9 either way. Um, but that...
10 A. Well I'll do my, I'll furnish it to you.
11 Q. Okay.
12 A. That's no big deal, that's that's easy.
13 Q. That's...
14 A. That's easy stuff.
15 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
16 Q. Yeah they're easy to get...
17 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
18 Q. These are the...
19 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
20 Q. Those, those records are pretty easy to get.
21 A. Right. But you have one, you got the 23rd right there but the 24th is
22 another very particular day for me.
23 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
24 Q. Okay.
25
19
1 A. On the 24th about 10:30 in the morning I went to go cut my grass at
2 my house. As I walked around the side where our, I keep my lawn
3 mower and all that stuff, as I walked around the side I find my shed
4 doors open probably about 4 or 5 inches. I had a lock on it. As I
5 popped my head inside the gas cans are gone, but the lock that was
6 broken off was sitting right on the floor in, on the right hand side
7 which I thought was really weird. There have been I guess thefts or
8 people have had stuff happen to gas.
9 Q. Sure.
10 A. In our neighborhood but didn't think too much more about it except
11 called Orange County, I figured hey I'll get to make some kind of
12 report, maybe there's something going on and, but then about 20
13 minutes after I called the sheriff's department son of a gun, the guy
14 shows up and make reports and he asked what do you think
15 everything is worth, I said, "Forty, fifty bucks," I don't know.
16 Q. Uh huh (Affirmative).
17 A. But I'm just, called my wife and I said, "Hey guess what happened
18 today," she says, "What," I said, "Someone broke in our shed and
19 stole the fas, the gas cans," she said, "You're kidding me," I said,
20 "I'm not joking (laughter)". The reason I'm bringing that very
21 specifically is I have thought or I've caught my daughter, I know she's
22 been taking gas using it. Cause I could see that in her car, on the
23 side of her car I could see spill marks.
24 Q. Uh huh (Affirmative).
25 A. When you spill gas on a car...
20
1 Q. Sure.
2 A. ...it leaves a mark. Many times I confronted her about it, I say,
3 "Listen, if you using it I don't care just put it back."
4 Q. Uh huh (Affirmative).
5 A. I don't care. Well this...
6 Q. That same day.
7 A. Yeah that's, what I'm gonna say is um, that same day when I talked
8 to Cindy about it I had to meet her at the 2:00 at the Goldenrod um,
9 Bank of America. Cause we had the stimulus check we were gonna
10 deposit in her account, I have to sign it for her cause I'm not on her
11 account. I met her there about 2:00, 2:05.
12 Q. Right.
13 A. After we made that deposit I came back home, I got home about
14 2:25, 2:30, starting to get ready for work and um, Casey pops in the
15 door. I hear the garage door open, here comes Casey in. I think I
16 startled her sorta being there cause my car was inside the garage.
17 But she comes in, she says, "Hey dad how you doing, I don't got too
18 much time, gotta go back to work for a event," I said, "Wait a
19 second," I said, "Where's Caylee, what's going on," "Oh she;s staying
20 with Zannie," and I said, "No we haven't seen the girl in over a week
21 you know, how's everything, we haven't talked to her, it'd sure be
22 nice to hear her little voice." "Dad I don't got time for it I got 10
23 minutes, I gotta get back to work." Well while she's in her room she
24 shouts out to me, she says, "Oh by the way, I talked to mom, I
25 understand something happened here at the house," I said, "In
21
1 reference to," she says, "Oh the gas cans," and I said, "Yeah," I said,
2 "Isn't that something," "Oh yeah dad that's terrible." so me being...
3 Q. Uh huh (Affirmative).
4 A. This investigator thing come through and I, I know my daughter's not
5 leveling with me. And I know this is what she's done in the past. I
6 said, "Hey Case," you know in the back of your trunk in the car we got
7 these metal wedges you put underneath the, your wheel, the car, if
8 you jack your car up so it doesn't move. I said, "Hey I wanna get that
9 one out of your car cause I have one already in the garage, I wanna
10 get that other one just cause I'm gonna uh, go ahead and rotate your
11 mom's tires over this weekend, in case you're not home I'd like to be
12 able to do it." "Oh dad I'll get it out for you." "case I got an extra set
13 of keys, I'll go in the trunk and get it." so her and I got in a little
14 verbal thing.
15 Q. She didn't want you to go in the trunk.
16 A. She didn't want me to go in the trunk of the car. So as I'm getting
17 ready to go out through our inner garage door before I open up the
18 big garage door she just blows right past me, "Dad I'll get your thing."
19 She said something very crude to me that I don't appreciate.
20 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
21 Q. Right, I understand.
22 A. So as I'm walking out the garage with her I'm walking at a pretty
23 decent pace and she's almost running out to her car, she says, "Dad
24 I'll get it, I know where it's at," I said, "Casey I'm capable of reaching
25
22
1 inside your trunk of your car, unbolting that thing," cause I, when I bolt
2 stuff down.
3 Q. Sure.
4 A. I crank it down. And she says, "Dad I'll get it." As I'm walking, I just
5 get back where the passenger rear tail light is to her car, she throw
6 up in a turn, she says, "Here are your F ing cans." I said, "Thanks a
7 lot," I said, "Now I look like a stupid ass, you know, I made a quick
8 report to the Orange County Sheriff's Department now you got the
9 cans, why do you have them?" "Well I'm been dragging, driving back
10 and forth to Tampa to see Zannie," and I'm like, "Wait a second,
11 you're supposed to be working but now you're in Tampa, this don't
12 make no sense to me."
13 Q. Yeah.
14 A. And I said, "Listen I'm not gonna deal with this right now but where's
15 Caylee, what's going on, you know, I believe I need to know," "I'll talk
16 to you and mom later." She hurries up and she gets in her car, takes
17 off. I had the gas cans because she hand them to me. I did not look
18 in the trunk.
19 Q. Right.
20 A. Because the distance where I was at she's the one that just handed
21 them to me and slammed the trunk right away. All I could say is...
22 Q. Maybe you're thinking that's the re, that's the only reason that
23 she's...
24 A. Right I mean...
25 Q. ...being evasive is because she's got your gas can.
23
1 A. ...gas cans. And I said, "You know thanks a lot make, making me
2 look stupid."
3 Q. Right.
4 A. Making me look like an ass.
5 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
6 Q. This, that event occurred before or after you chased her or followed
7 her to Kirkman?
8 A. I'm almost gonna say it's, it could have been that week here of the
9 16th, it could have been the 15th or it could have been right, I'm not
10 really positive guys I'm just...
11 Q. Okay...
12 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
13 Q. No we understand.
14 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
15 Q. ...no that's fine.
16 A. All I know is different times that she had borrowed my wife's vehicle,
17 it was always because she said the car isn't running right, well
18 basically it's because she had no gas in the car.
19 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
20 Q. Right (laughter). Yeah you gotta put gas in them.
21 A. But, but the, the E pass thing, I can get that, that's, I, I wanna get to
22 the bottom of this stuff.
23 Q. I know you do.
24 A. Believe me.
25
24
1 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
2 Q. That's what we're, we're trying to help you. Um, did you actually
3 follow her and watch her get off at Kirkman and Hiawassee and just
4 lose her there?
5 A. Yes in that general vicinity.
6 Q. Okay.
7 A. Cause they're exits are so close and it was so hard for me cause it
8 was a busy evening, about 5:30, quarter to 6 at night it's very busy. I
9 wish I could be more specific on a day, I really wish I could...
10 Q. Right.
11 A. ...because I know one thing my wife really just, don't follow it, that's
12 why I'm tired of this evasiveness, I, I...
13 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
14 Q. Sure.
15 A. ...I felt for 2 years my daughter hasn't been working, I felt that. So.
16 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
17 Q. She goes, she goes out of her way to print things up though and keep
18 that book if she ever held a task, I mean is someone says when are
19 you off, I mean she highlights vacations and things.
20 A. Well I know and she's using another computer to send emails to her
21 own self at our home computer or vice versa. I mean I, I don't know
22 how she's doing it but yeah she's been, she's been doing some stuff.
23 Cause I even told her, I say, whenever someone sends something to
24 somebody either it's printed at the bottom or somewhere in the, up in
25
25
1 the upper right hand corner, maybe to the left and it was always just
2 not.
3 Q. Oh those are the ones that Lee gave us?
4 A. Yeah it, the, the content was always in a proper, I mean I'm not a
5 computer guy...
6 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
7 Q. Me neither.
8 A. ...but, but I, I understand how content and stuff is. You know the
9 htmls and the urls and, those little things I know but.
10 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
11 Q. She has access to the home um that day on the 16th you left for work,
12 she could have gone right back and been in the home. I mean it's not
13 like you guys control any coming or going?
14 A. No. I mean I've, I've come to find out, and I'm not sure if that's even,
15 possible my wife did but we've come to find out now that a boyfriend
16 or two she used to bring to the home when my wife and I weren't
17 there.
18 Q. Yeah I heard about the Jesse incident a little bit.
19 A. Yeah. And I, I don't know if she brought someone else back, I don't
20 know. That I don't know but that, that bothers me, the heck out of
21 me.
22 Q. We're researching some things on that uh, another group of
23 individuals looking at some of the phone things.
24 A. Yeah that's something else that my wife, my son really brought it to
25 attention, he says the activity on the 16th was just (whistle). He said,
26
1 dad it just seem like shortly after she left the house at 1, 2:00 or
2 something like that, well there was activity in the morning.
3 Q. Uh huh (Affirmative).
4 A. But seem like shortly in the afternoon it just, unbelievable I guess, the
5 calls, text messages, everything like that so. I don't know, I haven't
6 looked at them, I can't comment just know that my son is just blown
7 away by it so.
8 Q. Yeah he picked the wrong profession. He's, he's doing a pretty good
9 job, I just wanna make sure we're all singing form the same sheet of
10 music and not hurting each other's efforts.
11 A. Oh I know.
12 Q. And I didn't get that impression from him at all so that's not the point
13 I'm trying to make with you.
14 A. Well anything my son gets that we feel that we get, he's, he's...
15 Q. He brought the receipts...
16 A. ...he's popping you guys as quick as he can.
17 Q. Right.
18 A. He says, "Dad they need this," I said, "Give it to them."
19 Q. Uh, matter of fact I haven't had a chance to talk to him but he text
20 messaged me the last name of an individual that Yuri already had
21 and wrote um, spoke to that, that girl so if you, if that comes up later
22 in conversation um, the information he gives us we try to act upon
23 immediately.
24 A. Okay.
25
27
1 Q. Well when we van. Um, 16th and 7th, or 15th, 16th, I think we have that
2 pretty well (inaudible). We needed this week of the gas cans. Um
3 someone mentioned a ladder incident in the backyard with the pool,
4 is there something uh, some...?
5 A. Right after we had called in about our granddaughter being missing, it
6 might have been the 2nd or 3rd day, my wife and I were just walking
7 around the house thinking, every little thing that might could have
8 happened. That's...
9 Q. That's the 15th.
10 A. Right as gruesome as it could have been we're thinking, you hate to
11 think this about your own child.
12 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
13 Q. Of course.
14 A. And she said, "You know George I hope she didn't, something
15 happened, she didn't panic, Caylee could a got outside real quick.:
16 And we are very religious, not in the, in the form I wanna say at the
17 moment but we're very, very detailed on the ladder, we have an
18 above ground pool. Whenever we're done with that pool, we don't
19 get in there every single day but we take that ladder off. I set it to the
20 side and we just make sure that that's always taken care of. My gate
21 is always locked. Thought I have the one entrance we have in and
22 out of our gate. I'm, I'm, I'm good about that. But one specific day
23 and I can't remember which day it was, my wife called and was
24 bitching me out, "George did you leave the gate open inside," "No,"
25 "Well did you go swimming today," "No," "Well the ladder's on, the
28
1 gate's open." I'm like, "Well I didn't do it." I don't know exact date it
2 was.
3 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
4 Q. Right.
5 A. All I know I was working, it could have been 6, 7:00 at night, I wish I
6 could be specific, I...
7 Q. So when you guys discussed that on the 15th it was just a recollection
8 of some time in the past?
9 A. Right.
10 Q. Any time in that, months prior?
11 A. Yeah it, it could a been any time within that and that's the reason we
12 passed it on to uh, Detective Yurich and uh, Melich, you know to let
13 him know that we just had a bad feeling. Maybe something
14 happened, we don't know. You hate to think that but it was just,
15 because when you don't talk to one special little person in your life,
16 when you don't hear her little voice for weeks and upon a time, 2 or 3
17 weeks upon a time you just, you start thinking different things. As
18 crazy as that might sound.
19 Q. That's...
20 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
21 Q. With your background that's uh...
22 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
23 q. It's...
24 A. Well you know something it's...
25
29
1 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
2 Q. One of those things.
3 A. ...if I would a, could a, should a, I should a done a lot of things but...
4 Q. I know, believe me.
5 A. But then I'm, I'm living with a very strong willed woman that I love
6 very much...
7 Q. I understand.
8 A. ...and I've got a daughter who's almost has the same personality
9 and it's hard living with 3 women, believe me guys.
10 Q. (Laughter). Been there done that.
11 A. God I wish I knew; I wish I could think of some more stuff.
12 Q. On the 15th um, your son went over to, I'll tell you what, the, I know
13 that they posted the notification on the 11th, uh that they towed the
14 car or to go to the mail and get the certified letter correct?
15 A. Well actually the notification, the car was towed on June 30th from the
16 corner of uh, Goldenrod and uh, 50 at that Amscot. I guess the
17 vehicle sat there from the 27th till the 30th.
18 Q. Right.
19 A. It was towed by um, Johnson's Towing after I guess someone from
20 the sheriff's department ran license plate, VIN and stuff, they had to
21 see if the car was stolen. Why they didn't call us about it I don't
22 know, I wish we could have had that date, this thing could have even
23 done quicker but we didn't get a notification until uh, the 11th that was
24 delivered to our home. But from what I understand is because,
25 between June 30th to July 4th, cause that being like a holiday week or
30
1 something the mail didn't go out I guess till the 7th or 8th. The
2 notification came to our house was, was uh, dated on the 11th, my
3 wife and I didn't, we don't go in and out of our front door, everything is
4 through the garage.
5 Q. Right.
6 A. My wife happened to be out front as I'm planting grass and all that
7 stuff in front cause I been working outside, she says, "George we got
8 a certified letter from somebody by the name of Johnson's," and I'm
9 like, "Johnson's," she said, "Yeah," and it's, she says, "Can you pick it
10 up," this is Sunday, I said, "Yeah I'll do it Monday," which is next day.
11 I didn't get a chance to go to the post office on Monday, wish I would
12 have.
13 Q. Uh huh (Affirmative).
14 A. Cause it's another day that we lost.
15 Q. yelp. I, I'm kinda coming in on this thing uh, at a late point in the
16 game but you didn't know that uh, your daughter had not told you that
17 the car was there?
18 A. Right from like towards the end of, of June, she said I'm up in
19 Jacksonville with uh, Jeff Hopkins and his son Zack.
20 Q. And you just assumed she had the car?
21 A. Yeah just assumed that she had the car up there. And I questioned
22 her why did you drive this car up there if the car is, needs an oil
23 change, it needs some tires, it needs some other stuff need doing,
24 why would you drive this and we specifically told you as I did, "Stay
25 local, stay close."
31
1 Q. Sure.
2 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
3 Q. She even told mom there that she, she and Jeff got the car fixed up
4 there.
5 A. Right, that was another thing that was passed on to us. That Jeff
6 knew a guy, he was fixing it up, putting a, a sensor in it and rotating
7 the tires, changing the oil, all that kind of stuff. The only thing I told
8 her I knew when she was coming back, I says, "Listen I'd like to see
9 the receipt."
10 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
11 Q. Right.
12 A. "Make sure that this guy didn't railroad you a little bit," I mean I'm not
13 a stupid guy, I mean my dad was in the car business, I know a lot
14 about cars and it just, we could have got it done locally.
15 Q. I think you're, I think you're a guy that knows a lot about a lot of things
16 George.
17 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
18 Q. Yeah. The um, you go to pick the car up on the 15th?
19 A. Right cause I, cause I went to the post, I didn't get a chance to go to
20 the post office on the 14th because of work. I just started with a new
21 company the week prior to that. Andrew's International I'm working
22 for right now.
23 Q. Andrew's International.
24 A. Yeah. Great company. Matter of fact they're the one's what recruited
25 me to come and work for them, which I thought was great...
32
1 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
2 Q. That's a security agency also?
3 A. Yes.
4 Q. Good.
5 A. Yeah. matter of fact they're based out of California but they're world,
6 they're world...
7 Q. I'll tell you what um...
8 A. ...they're just like the 4th largest one in uh, in the world.
9 Q. You know the uh, the private security industry is just exploded.
10 A. Well...
11 Q. Especially here in this area.
12 A. Well the gentleman who, who met with me, his name is John Naggie,
13 he's ex LAPD type guy, very sharp man.
14 Q. Yeah.
15 A. And all these guys are involved in this, the agency, it's like 15 of
16 them.
17 Q. Uh huh (Affirmative).
18 A. They're just, man these guys are sharp.
19 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
20 Q. yeah.
21 A. I mean I haven't met all of them I just met this guy but...
22 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
23 Q. Sure.
24 A. ...they're just great guys.
25 Q. That's fine.
33
1 A. Great people so it's a nice opportunity for me.
2 Q. (Inaudible) retirement gig and turn it into something...
3 A. Well that's what I plan on staying with these guys. I plan on staying
4 with these...
5 Q. Good for you.
6 A. ...becvause they came for me, they said, "George you got talent,
7 you've got this, you've got that."
8 Q. Right.
9 A. And...
10 Q. That's good.
11 A. The only thing that's been tough for me is I have a guy who's just my
12 son's age who's my boss at the moment.
13 Q. Yeah I know that's hard.
14 A. But, but, but he's a cool guy, he's very...
15 Q. (Inaudible)
16 A. ...And he's...
17 Q. But it is, and...
18 A. ...and he's looking for me for, he said, "George you got the
19 experience, you've got this and that," and he's feeding off of that now
20 but...
21 Q. Yeah that's uh...
22 A. Great, great company so. but I've taken...
23 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
24 Q. (Inaudible) your assets and learn from them that's for sure.
25
34
1 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
2 Q. We get that a lot when we get to be out age (laughter). Believe me.
3 A. Yeah.
4 Q. (Laughter)
5 A. And the connections that I have you know in the security industry...
6 Q. Sure.
7 A. ...is a big thing so we've gotten a couple of big contracts because of
8 people that I've known so.
9 Q. Sure, that's good.
10 A. Yeah pretty cool, pretty cool place, my wife's happy and
11 Q. Excellent.
12 A. ...this is one of the better jobs that I've had in some time but getting
13 back, I'm sorry I'm getting off track with this stuff.
14 Q. Right, sure.
15 A. My, my apology.
16 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
17 Q. No not at all.
18 A. If there's anything you wanna know about those guys I can give you
19 the phone numbers and...
20 Q. We're not going down that road um, at this time. I know...
21 A. But if you do it's, it's...
22 Q. ...these poor kids that I'm calling you know, they're just trying to
23 establish their selves in lives right now and they got these new jobs
24 and stuff and now they're, they're catapulted into the public light and
25 these employers are all, listen if that, if this comes to my work you're
35
1 done. You know these kids are all nervous about that very thing right
2 there. So...
3 A. Yeah.
4 Q. ...but...
5 A. Hey that's...
6 Q. ...here we are.
7 A. ...that's....
8 Q. That's, that's, that's the path that they've gone down.
9 A. All these pieces, we're, we're, we're looking at this like a 500 piece
10 puzzle.
11 Q. Exactly.
12 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
13 Q. Sure.
14 A. We've got the outside edges done.
15 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
16 Q. And every piece that we can...
17 A. but everything...
18 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
19 Q. Absolutely right.
20 A. ...we need in the center is not there yet and it's ...
21 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
22 Q. And every piece we can possibly go out there and get, were gonna.
23 A. Right, I understand. And believe me I'm gonna do everything I can
24 because I, I want this...
25
36
1 Q. Your wife has volunteered to bring um us an article that was in the
2 car when you guys recovered it down there that she laundered a pair
3 of slacks, but I'd rather do that where you guys go get it and bring it
4 here to avoid what occurred the other day.
5 A. Yeah with the gas thing.
6 Q. Yeah.
7 A. Yeah...
8 Q. If that's okay.
9 A. That's, that's excellent, that's no problem.
10 Q. What, when you guys picked up the car what else was in the car that
11 may not, may not have been in the car when we um, when we
12 inventoried it?
13 A. Well you guys are aware of the smell of the car.
14 Q. Well I'm trying to tiptoe around that issue cause I know it's a sensitive
15 one.
16 A. Well I just gotta tell you my feelings are, I don't like how it smells. I'm
17 being straight with you guys.
18 Q. I'm sorry.
19 A. I don't like the smell in the car; I'm being straight with you guys.
20 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
21 Q. We didn't like the smell either.
22 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
23 Q. Right.
24 A. I'm, I'm, I'm being straight and honest, I just...
25
37
1 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
2 Q. And we appreciate that George and we won't share that with anyone.
3 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
4 Q. Yeah because um, that's a difficult topic for you.
5 A. It's tough but you know stuff's gotta come out; it's the way it is. I'm
6 not gonna hold back you know. I mean there's, there's a reality here
7 in this thing and that's, that's life and...
8 Q. I know when Any, when we spoke with Any, the only reason I say
9 this to you is cause Amy's already talked to you wife and many others
10 so it's hard to keep information limited but Amy was concerned with
11 some things that your wife said on the way to pick up your daughter
12 about that even. She says...
13 A. See I don't know, I don't know what they talked about.
14 Q. Yeah. Well um, and those are flags to us where you know the
15 original approach of the vehicle was even a concern to mom is how
16 Amy pit it. But I'm not gonna press mom on that issue, mom's
17 having a hard enough time dealing with some realities that's...
18 A. Yeah I've, the last couple of days have been very hard for her, I mean
19 I went through this, the last couple of weeks I've been hitting that
20 wall, my body just starts to...
21 Q. Yeah.
22 A. ....I was even here just for the 911 tapes were at and, and I was sick
23 as, I started getting sicker cause they they're telling me about photos
24 about my daughter, you know and I'm like oh my gosh, what is is
25 going on here. So.
38
1 Q. Yeah.
2 A. To be very straight so.
3 Q. Well the, the car in, in and of itself the odor is its own, in and amongst
4 it's own issue.
5 A. Right.
6 Q. But what may have been in that vehicle at that time that we don't
7 have or that may have been removed from the car, with no malice but
8 just I'm curious um, I know there was a couple pairs of shoes and
9 some slacks.
10 A. Right.
11 Q. And the baby chair.
12 A. Yeah.
13 Q. The doll.
14 A. The doll.
15 Q. Was there a diaper bag in the car?
16 A. I believe in the, it could have been in the trunk of the car, I'm not sure
17 if it was in the trunk or it was in the rear seat area it was uh, another
18 one of her backpacks.
19 Q. But not the, not the one with the monkeys on it that you're talking about?
21 A. Not that I can, no, cause the one she had the monkeys on was white,
22 I'm positive of that.
23 Q. We don't know where the backpack is at all.
24 A. No, but I know it was white because I know she had it on. It was, it's
25 fairly new as a matter of fact. It probably was something that was
39
1 purchased at Target if I'm not mistaken. My daughter likes to shop at
2 Target with my wife's money (laughter).
3 Q. Well we've got several of her doing that.
4 A. As, as rough as that sounds guys but it's the truth.
5 Q. Well that's part of having kids I guess is dealing with that.
6 A. Oh yeah. That's another issue.
7 Q. Backpack with monkeys not in the car. Um...
8 A. I mean my, my granddaughter's had I don't know how many different
9 backpacks with stuff, I, I know one she's had is brown or black in
10 color again and oh man I don't know.
11 Q. What color were those pants that were in the car that were removed?
12 They were they the same dress slacks that your daughter was
13 wearing that...?
14 A. It could have been, I know that's something my wife's, I don't know if
15 they were the charcoal gray ones or it could have been black ones.
16 For some reason I think they were the charcoal ones, I'm not positive,
17 I'm not really sure. I know in the trunk of the car was her us, we have
18 these collapsible crates, it was a blue one in color, it had uh, coat
19 hangers, just a bunch of miscellaneous little stuff in the back.
20 Q. Nothing, nothing removed above and beyond what was recovered
21 already?
22 A. Not that I can remember. But then again after we brought her car
23 home my wife sent me back to work. Because I had an event to go
24 work at work and she says, "I'll, I'll handle everything with Casey,"
25 and type stuff. Cause I was pretty livid at the moment.
40
1 Q. Sure. Lee picked up items, once, once your wife went and got your
2 daughter and brought her back to the house, I know it was
3 confrontational talking to Lee. Um, I think we spoke for 4 hours plus
4 there. Um, your daughter um, made some statements to him, I know
5 that there's some tension there between mom and daughter about
6 how daughter may be living her life. Um, but Lee goes to Tony,
7 Anthony's apartment about 2:00 in the morning I guess.
8 A. Something right around there, it was like 1, 2:00 right.
9 Q. He grabs items that belong to Casey and brings them back home.
10 No...
11 A. Very smoke filled things, man they were nasty.
12 Q. Okay. But he made reference to the fact they were all folded and put
13 together in a very neat and organized, nothing like Casey would...
14 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
15 Q. No, now when you say they smelled like smoke um, you're talking
16 about uh...
17 A. Cigarette smoke.
18 Q. ...smoke form, okay cigarette.
19 A. Cigarette smoke, yeah it was, as a matter of fact when my son
20 brought them in the house my wife said, "Oh my God these are
21 terrible," I mean it was nasty.
22 Q. Right.
23 A. I mean we don't smoke or anything like that...
24 Q. No, no, sure.
25 A. ...so it was very profound and very strong odor, cigarette smoke.
41
1 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
2 Q. There was a second purse there though. I know that you said there
3 was a purse in the car, or mom said it was a purse in the car.
4 A. Right.
5 Q. But there was another purse in her belongings.
6 A. It was like a black vinyl, almost like a leather like looking thing. It
7 looked fairly new to me but, I think she had some cosmetic stuff in it.
8 I can't be very, I know my wife just dumped a bunch of stuff and...
9 Q. Cash, J C Penney, Sears cards, mom said she recovered.
10 A. Yeah stuff that was in my wife's name, yeah. I think there was some
11 cash in it too if I'm not mistaken.
12 Q. Right.
13 A. That my wife grabbed real quick.
14 Q. Commandeered..
15 A. Because she said, "George I don't know whose it is, it cold Ive
16 Amy's." So yeah my wife also told me that she had ripped off, taken
17 from Amy also I guess so.
18 Q. Right.
19 A. When that all occurred, I don't know. I don't know. Man oh man oh
20 man.
21 Q. I think we're, I think as far as any questions I had George about
22 specific dates and times of interest we're already covered. Um...
23 A. I wish I knew more guys, I wish I did.
24 Q. I think the big thing now...
25
42
1 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
2 Q. You've been very helpful.
3 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
4 Q. ...is...
5 A. I, I think the E pass statement is gonna help me or help us. Uh,
6 getting our own phone records again I think that's gonna help us a
7 little bit more, nailing some times down. Cause my wife and I don't
8 use our cell phones a lot.
9 Q. Right.
10 A. It's like...
11 Q. Yeah exactly.
12 A. It's just like hey I'm stopping on my way home, do we need
13 something, milk, bread. Did you make it home okay; you worked a 15
14 hour day or 12 hour day, what ever it might type stuff you know.
15 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
16 Q. And, and as you...
17 A. Is, is the little girl home, just little conversations you know.
18 Q. Yeah. As as you well know when, when we put together a time line
19 like this we need every little tidbit of information that we can possibly
20 obtain.
21 A. Right.
22 Q. Because you never know um, what's going to be the piece that, that
23 uh...
24 A. Right.
25 Q. ...brings this all into focus for us.
43
1 A. I know I just wish I could...
2 Q. No, no you're, you're doing great and we appreciate uh, we
3 appreciate your help.
4 A. But I, I can tell you though...
5 Q. And we won't, you know we won't share with...
6 A. Right. But I can tell you though...
7 Q. ...you know with (inaudible) we've said here.
8 A. ....90% of the time or more with, it was my wife watching...
9 Q. Sure.
10 A. ....watching, watching our granddaughter. You know, very few times
11 that I actually watched her by myself because of scheduling or...
12 Q. I understand.
13 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
14 Q. She was almost more of a mother figure than...
15 A. Yeah.
16 Q. ....Casey.
17 A. Yeah. I think that happened from the day she was born as a matter
18 of fact. I don't know if my wife shared that with you guys or not but...
19 Q. Yeah.
20 A. ...the day that she was born after they got done cleaning my
21 granddaughter up and stuff like that who do they hand her to was my
22 wife and my daughter has always...
23 Q. Harbored ill feelings?
24 A. Yeah there's been some toughness right there, yeah. Yeah she's
25 thrown that in my wife's face a few times, yeah, to be honest she has.
44
1 Yelp and she said uh, "Seems like Caylee goes to you guys more
2 than she does to me." Well it's not that we're trying to take her away
3 from her...
4 (DETECTIVE HUSSEY)
5 Q. No, no of course not.
6 A. ...we're, we're there.
7 Q. Sure.
8 A. We're constantly there with that little girl you know. She sees us
9 everyday. Did she ever call my wife mommy, no, did she ever call
10 me daddy, no, it's always been Jo Jo, grandpa, papa or something
11like that or
12 (DETECTIVE EDWARDS)
13 Q. Put you played a strong parental figure?
14 A. Oh absolutely.
15 Q. Yeah.
16 A. I mean it's I want the best for that little girl.
17 Q. That was a lot of the friends uh, read into the situation as well.
18 A. Yeah we're heard some stories about that. Amy said that my wife
19 was signing the house over to our daughter. Her and I were getting a
20 divorce. My wife was getting a condo. My wife and I have been
21 through a tough time back in 2005. Shortly after my granddaughter
22 was born we went through some financial stuff and plus I went
23 through a tough time adjust to not being a grandfather but my
24 daughter just being a single parent and you know there was, that
25 caused us to go in some different directions for a few months.
45
1 Q. Yeah.
2 A. I mean that's, that's the way it was. We worked through it and it was
3 tough every single day but.
4 Q. Raise your right hand for me. You swear everything you said today
5 was true, freely given?
6 A. Freely given and it's true, yes.
7 Q. Thank you sir. The time is apparently 11:56 a.m.
8 A. But the other, sorry.
9 Q. That's alright, I wanted to....
