That night I was 10-8 on the 24 road. I was working in Kilo Sector, which is the eastside of town and... 25 EE: For O.P.D. Uhm, she called Amy, Ricardo 5 and Troy. She was on her way back from the voyage Night Club at the time. 6 EE: Okay. 7 JG: Uhm... 8 EE: So you know Amy, Ricardo and Troy... 9 JG: Correct. 10 EE: ...and, and Casey were all hanging out together at the time? And Casey and 11 Ricardo were an item? 12 JG: Uhm, uhm, I believe they were on-again at that point in time. 13 EE: Okay. The next day we scroll to is the 24th of May? 14 JG: Uh-hum (affirmative). 15 EE: You say that that's the day that you met Tony? JG: Uhm, I did not meet Tony. That's the day that Casey met Tony. 17 EE: Casey met Tony? Okay... 18 JG: Yeah (affirmative), she... 19 EE: Tell me about that. 20 JG:Yeah (affirmative), she met Tony at a uhm, again, that was another night where I 21 was 10-8. That was one of my three day weekends. 22 EE: Uh-hum (affirmative). 23 JG: Uhm, she was at Buffalo Wild Wings I believe for a MMA fight. Watching it with a 24 couple of the people. And then according to Amy and Troy, uhm, she went to a 25 party and met Tony for the first time. 5 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 EE: Did Amy and Troy go with her? 2 JG: Yes. 3 EE: Okay. That's the first time she met him? 4 JG: The first time she met him. 5 EE: Uh, the 25th of May? 6 JG: She went to what they referred to as a "no clothes party", which meant that you 7 just had to dress in something that wasn't necessarily clothing. 8 EE: A costume party? 9 JG: Something like that, yeah (affirmative). 10 EE: Okay. So did... 11 JG: People showed up in the paper bags. And she showed up in American flag is what 12 she wore. Uhm, she was with uhm, Amy and Troy. Caylee was not with them. 13 And that night she ran into an ex-boyfriend named Brandon. 14 EE: Do you know where that party was? 15 JG: Uhm, I do not. 16 EE: Okay. 17 JG: Uhm, I know people, I know Amy and Troy have that information. 18 EE: We fast forward to the 30th of May. You have found that, and this is through 19 conversations with Ricardo and Amy and everyone else? 20 JG: Right. 21 EE: Okay. You've established that Casey stayed the night with Ricardo on the 30th? 22 JG: Correct, and she, they had Caylee. 23: At... 24 JG: And Casey had Caylee. 25 DD: Casey had the child? 6 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 JG: Yes. 2 EE: And that's from Ricardo? 3 JG: Correct. 4 EE: Amy was in Tallahassee you say that weekend? 5 JG: Yes sir. 6 EE: Okay, now, the 31st is a pool party at your apartment complex, which is Arden 7 Villas? 8 JG: Correct. 9 EE: Okay, and (sighs), you said Casey came up to your apartment and then took you 10 back down to the pool and you met this Tony fellow? 11 JG: I met Tony for the first time, exactly. 12 EE: And he, he was the DJ at the party? 13 JG: Correct. 14 EE: How'd that go? 15 JG: Uhm, it, it almost felt like she was bringing me down there to uh, kind of get his, 16 like trying to get my blessing in regards to Tony. Uhm, I, I didn't stay for more 17 than five minutes with them before I, I, I left. Uhm, I bought my little brother's 18 birthday present at Michael's. So, uhm... 19 EE: Okay. But... 20 JG: Uh... 21 EE: ...you left her there at the apartment. 22 JG: I left her there at the apartment. 23 EE: In your apartment? 24 JG: uhm, not in my apartment, the apartment complex at the, at the pool with... 25 EE: With him? 7 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 JG: ...with Tony. 2 EE: Okay. 3 JG: By the time I returned they were gone. 4 EE: Okay, you have found that Amy, on the 1st of June, I'm sorry, Amy, Ricardo and 5 Troy, without Casey... 6 JG: Uh-hum (affirmative). 7 EE: ...went to the Voyage? 8 JG: Went to Voyage Night Club. 9 EE: Okay, so the significance of that is Casey wasn't with them? 10 JG: Correct. 11 EE: Which she normally always was? 12 JG: Right. 13 EE: But Casey texts her friends and said that she's already out, but an unknown 14 location? 15 JG: Correct. 16 EE: Okay, on the 2nd Casey report to Ricardo that she has kissed Tony. So he's 17 she's kind of setting him up knowing that something else is going on with another 18 man? 19 JG: Correct, with... 20 EE: And this is what Ricardo's told you? 21 JG: Correct. 22 EE: Okay. And if we're as I'm breezing through this if there's something significant 23 that I'm overlooking please tell me. June 4th, Casey, Tony and two friends... 24 JG: Uh-hum (affirmative). 25 EE: ...went to? 8 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 JG: Voyage Night Club. 2 EE: And... 3 JG: She drove the... 4 EE: White... 5 JG: ...three of them. 6 EE: White car? 7 JG: Uh, I'm not sure which vehicle. 8 EE: Oh, unknown car? 9 JG: Unknown vehicle. But her, her car was only really a two seater(sic) to be honest 10 with you. So uhm, uh, I'm not sure whose car she drove. 11 EE: Okay, but she, she met Amy, Ricardo and Troy? 12 JG: Because it was Troy's birthday get together. 13 EE: Do we know what establishment that was? Voyage? 14 JG: Voyage Night Club. 15 EE: Okay. And it was Troy's birthday? 16 JG: Yes. 17 EE: And them the 5th you say, well let me go back. Casey left that night with Tony 18 plus two you said? 19 JG: Yeah (affirmative), around... 20 EE: Tony and ... 21 JG: ...twelve- thirty, twelve-forty-five. 22 EE: So it was two couples? Two males, two females? 23 JG: Uhm... 24 EE: You don't know? 25 9 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 JG: No. I believe it, I believe from what I understand it was Tony plus two of his 2 friends. I, I don't know the gender of the friends. 3 EE: Okay. And Casey? 4 JG: Yes. 5 EE: Okay, at Troy's birthday Amy, Ricardo and Troy go out with no Casey? 6 JG: Correct. 7 EE: so she's hanging out with somebody else on the 5th? We don't know whom? 8 JG: Correct. 9 EE: Alright. The 6th (sighs), you have Casey went to Fusion for the very first time? 10 JG: Correct. 11 EE: Casey had plans with Ricardo, but went to Fusion instead. So she told him she 12 had something else come up? 13 JG: She told, she told Ricardo that she had work that night. And the way Ricardo 14 found out that she did not have work was that there were pictures of her at 15 Fusion that she posted on-line afterwards. 16 EE: (Sighs) Okay, and the 7th, June the 7th, a Saturday. 17 JG: Uh-huh (affirmative). 18 EE: You have noted that she, Casey slept at Ricardo's with the child, Caylee? 19 JG: According to Ricardo she came over and slept over there and Caylee was with 20 her. 21 EE: On the 7th? 22 JG: Correct. 23 EE: To the 8th? 24 JG: Uh-hum (affirmative). 25 10 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 EE: Okay. The 9th and the 10th you have lumped together. You say Caylee and 2 Cassie... 3 JG: Casey, yes sir. 4 EE: Casey. I'm sorry. 5 JG: That's fine. 6 EE: Uhm, stayed with Ricardo and Amy? 7 JG: Right. 8 EE: And at the time Amy was living with Ricardo or? 9 JG: Still, still currently. 10 EE: Still lives there? 11 JG: Yeah (affirmative), she's sleeping on the couch. 12 EE: The 9th and the 10th of June. 13 JG: Correct. Yes sir. 14 EE: So both of them can say that the child... 15 JG: They saw, the saw... 16 EE: They saw the child the 9th and the 10th? 17 JG: Correct. 18 EE: 11th. Casey officially changes Facebook and told Ricardo that she was dating 19 Tony. You say that Casey lived by the Facebook account? 20 JG: She, she lived by the My Space and the Facebook. Her, her life was reported on 21 there. 22 EE: So she probably confided with uh, Amy I would imagine during this couple of day 23 period that that was fixing to happen, huh? 24 JG: Ihm, I, I, it would makes sense. They were basically sharing almost everything 25 with one another at that point. 11 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 EE: Okay. Uh, you said Troy was in Washington, D.C. from the 11th to the 18th? 2 JG: Correct. 3 EE: So he wasn't part of the little uh, collective group? 4 JG: Correct. 5 EE: Amy and Ricardo went to Voyage Night Club on the 11th? 6 JG: That night. Yes, no Casey. 7 EE: No Casey. And then on the 12th Ricardo left for Tampa? 8 JG: Correct. 9 EE: Casey had a trip, on the 13th Casey had a trip planned for Jacksonville with Amy, 10 when she said her dad had a stroke? 11 JG: She, she told Amy that her dad had a miniature stroke and that she had to go to 12 the hospital. She also called Ricardo and told Ricardo the same story. 13 EE: On the 14th, being Saturday, then no on had any contact with her at all? 14 JG: No sir. 15 EE: Okay. So no everybody thinks dad had a stroke? 16 JG: Correct. 17 EE: On the 15th, being Sunday, Amy talked to Casey about well her... 18: JG: She... 19 EE: ...living situation? That was the house thing. Tell me in depth about the house 20 thing? 21 JG: Uhm, according, and this is something that Casey had told me previously too. 22 She had told me that uhm, her mother was getting a condo. Her parents were 23 most likely getting divorced. And that her mom was signing, her mother, Cindy 24 Anthony, was signing the home over into Casey's name. Uhm, and Casey was 25 going to get Amy as a roommate. Uhm, I, I don't remember the exactly when this 12 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 started. I was uhm, uh, don't recall the exact time of when she told me that. But 2 at this point it had dragged on for a little while. Amy had even had a change of 3 address form put in and had mail being sent to the house on Hope Spring Drive. 4 Uhm, and at, and at this point Casey was just telling her that her, her dad still had 5 to work on stuff, and uhm, you know, doesn't know when she's going to be able 6 to move in. And then told her, and I don't know the exact time, told her well my 7 parents are not uhm, my mom's not moving out anymore. Uhm, they are getting 8 a divorce and mom wants me out of the house. 9 EE: Okay. 10 JG:That's, that's the whole housing situation. That's the whole thing that went down. 11 I believe that conversation about mom never not moving out anymore and her 12 whole falling out with mom over this was when you get to it the sixteen minute 13 phone, phone conversation I had with Casey uhm, on the 16th. 14 EE: Alright, we'll go to that. The 16th of June you say that Casey called you? 15 JG: Correct. 16 EE: Sixteen minute talk? 17 JG: Well let me, if you... 18 EE: Yeah (affirmative). 19 JG: ...check. I just want to make sure that she called me and I didn't call her. I 20 believe she called me. But I don't, I don't want to misquote myself. 21 EE: That's fine. 22 JG: Yeah (affirmative), we had a long conversation. Uhm, it was not, it was not a 23 normal, if that's a correct choice of words. Here we go. Uhm, yeah (affirmative), 24 I spoke with her. 25 EE: You call her? 13 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 JG: Yeah (affirmative), 06/16. 2 EE: Okay. 3 JG; Uhm, I had sixteen minutes on here. Well I don;t know why I have sixteen. It 4 should be, it should be a twelve minute conversation. 5 EE: Twelve minutes? 6 JG: Yeah (affirmative), that's what I have highlighted here. I don't know why I 7 highlighted it. 8 EE: Okay. 9 JG: Uhm, uh... 10 EE: And you possibly heard the child in the background at that time? 11 JG: It was not, yeah (affirmative), it was not unnormal(sic) to hear Caylee in the 12 background whenever I was talking to Casey. 13 EE: What was the content of that conversation? 14 JG: Uhm, the fact that her mom was no longer moving out anymore. Casey now had 15 to find a place to live. Uhm, uh, she couldn't stay at home. And that her parents 16 were getting a divorce. 17 EE: Alright. And you have from the 17th through the 23rd non of your friends, you or 18 any of your friends, can account for where Casey or the child are? 19 JG: Correct. No idea. It was almost as if she fell of the face of the planet. 20 EE: And you believe she's possibly staying with Tony? 21 JG: Correct. 22 EE: The new boyfriend? 23 JG: All indications point and that she was with Tony for that period of time. 24 EE: Okay. 25 JG: Tony Lazaro. 14 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 EE: And June 24th, a pretty significant day in your life. 2 JG: Correct. 3 EE: Uhm, we, and we know why. We don't have to pick that scab. 4 JG: Okay. 5 EE: But that's why you remember that this conversation occurred that day because 6 you guys talked about that? 7 JG: Correct. 8 EE: Okay. She call you or you call her? 9 JG: I call her. 10 EE: [BLACKED OUT] 11 JG: [BLACKED OUT] 12 EE: And you didn't know where she was? 13 JG: No, no idea where she was. 14 EE: Okay, but you definitely... 15 JG: Heard Caylee in the background. Whenever, whenever Casey got on the phone 16 Caylee is immediately wanted attention. Uhm, huh, she wanted the attention on 17 her whenever her mother was on the phone. And wanted to talkd on the phone. 18 Uhm, but I, I, I remember Casey specifically telling Caylee in the background 19 uhm, "Stop doing that. No." And then I heard Caylee, you know gibberish in the 20 background. And then she told Caylee to get off the table. Told her to sit down. 21 I remember hearing that specifically. 22 EE: Did she yell out her name or just or an order? 23 JG: "Caylee, no! Stop! No." That was exactly how it sounded. 24 EE: Okay. 25 15 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 JG: Uhm, "Get off the table Caylee. Sit down. Mom's on the phone." So, so that, 2 that's, that's exactly how... 3 EE: And that's the 24th of June? 4 JG: Correct. 5 EE: Alright, now the 25th and the 26th, no contact? 6 JG: Nope. (Negative) 7 EE: The 27th Casey calls you? 8 JG: Correct. 9 EE: Worried about you... 10 JG: Right. 11 EE: ...do to you uhm, situation. 12 JG: Correct. Yes sir. 13 EE: And she wanted you to go to Fusion? 14 JG: Correct. Yes sir. I declined. Uhm, and I asked her, well first I asked her, "Well 15 where's Caylee? Why, you know you're going to Fusion." At this point I know 16 that she had a falling out with her mother. How did, whose watching 17 Caylee? Uhm, and, and that;s when she tells me, "Caylee is with the nanny at 18 the beach. 19 EE: On the 27th? 20 JG: Correct. 21 EE: And as far as a nanny, that's when we touched upon, do you know the nanny? 22 Have you met the nanny? 23 JG: I never met Zani before, but I've heard the name Zani for at least six months. 24 EE: Six months? 25 JG: At least. 16 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 EE: And did she tell you anything about Zani that would help us i.d. (identify) who 2 Zani is? 3 JG: Absolutely not. I didn't know anything about Zani. No descriptions. I just knew 4 the name. 5 EE: Okay. So there's possibly a Zani, but we just don't know who she is? 6 JG: Correct. 7 EE: 28th? 8 JG: I received a phone call from Casey. 9 EE: Uh-hum (affirmative). 10 JG: Uhm, telling me that her car had run out of gas and she wanted to borrow gas 11 can from me. Uhm, at the time I was not uh, I , I was on, she said that s...her car 12 was at 50 and Goldenrod and that she needed a gas can uh, because she knew I 13 had on because I used to keep one in my truck. 14 EE: Okay. 15 JG: However I was at my parents' house on the other side of town. And so there was 16 no way I was going to be able to get over there and help her out. But we had a 17 conversation about it why she had run out of gas. What she was going to be 18 able to do. And that was about the extent. It happened at 1:25. 19 EE: 1:25? 20 JG: Uh-hum (affirmative). 21 EE: P.M.? 22 JG: Yes sir. 23 EE: This later on did you ever find out who came and got her out of... 24 JG: Uh... 25 EE: ...the situation? 17 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 JG: According to what I understand Tony Lazaro came and picked her up. 2 EE: How do you understand that? 3 JG: Uhm, that is what Amy told me. And I do remember Casey saying something 4 about Tony coming to get her but I can't remember specific that. 5 EE: Tony picked her up? 6 JG: Yeah (affirmative). 7 EE: Alright. The 29th you have listed in your timeline, because through you own 8 investigation here the car's at AmScot? 9 JG: Correct. Yes sir. 10 EE: At Goldenrod and 50? 11 JG: Yes sir. 12 EE: The 30th you have listed on your calendar, I can't help but notice, the car was 13 towed by Johnson's. But you don't know what time? 14 JG: Correct. No sir. 15 EE: Alright. And then To..that's the same that Tony Lazaro left for New York you 16 indicate? And he had a flight at 9:58... 17 JG: Yes sir. 18 EE: ...a.m.? 19 JG: Yes sir. 20 EE: Amy had told you that Casey actually came to visit her about nine o'clock in the 21 morning in the Jeep? 22 JG: Yes sir. 23 EE: Tony's Jeep? 24 JG: Yes sir. 25 EE: And then you said that Casey and Amy went to a Target store? 18 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 JG: Yes sir. 2 EE: 50 and Bumby area? 3 JG: Yes sir. 4 EE: Near the L.A. Fitness? 5 JG: Right. 6 EE: Amy purchased a gas can for Casey? 7 JG: Yes sir. 8 EE: Because it was her understanding that they were going to go back and get the 9 car, or she was going to go back and get the car? 10 JG: Yes sir. 11 EE: But the child wasn't there? 12 JG: Correct. 13 EE: No child? 14 JG: No. 15 EE: I'll talk to Amy about that. This is what, and this is what Amy has told you? 16 JG: Correct. Yes sir. 17 EE: Alright. We're in July. 18 JG: Alright. 19 EE: Ba-da-boom. July 1st. You said this was a strange day. Tell me about it today. 20 JG: Uh, 10:15 I received a phone call, I was still alseep, from Casey's cell phone, 21 uhm, [BLACKED OUT] Uhm, she shows up as CMA in my phone. Uhm, I was still 22 asleep. Uhm, Casey called me and asked me uhm, "Please, I need a favor." 23 And I, I uhm, asked her what the favor was. She said, "Well I need to take a 24 shower before I go to work. I was staying at Tony's but I don't have the key to 25 get back into his place and uhm, I can't go to my parents' place to take a 19 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 shower." I expecting to see Caylee with her when she came by. I said, "Okay, 2 fine. You can come over and take a shower." Uhm, she arrives at 10:39. Calls 3 me when she gets to the door. I come open the door for her. She doesn't look 4 like someone who needs to take a shower. She looks normal, cleaned up. She's 5 got a bag with her, it looked like it has clothers in it, and went in to take a shower. 6 Left the door half open, went in and took a shower in my bedroom. I stayed in 7 the living room, playing a video game, watching television. Uh, and then she 8 came out and sat around until about twelve o'clock, uhm, watching television with 9 me. Uhm, at, at some point between when she got out of the shower and twelve 10 o'clock my roommate arrived home and saw her and met her for the first time. 11 Uhm, and then she left. 12 EE: Your roommate's name? 13 JG: Uh, Rick Oswald. 14 EE: Okay. Just if I need that down the road we'll... 15 JG: Sure. 16 EE: ...we'll follow up on that. Now you say that later on, this, she had no child? 17 JG: No child. No Caylee with her, which... 18 EE: Took a shower? Which what? 19 JG: Which surprised me. I, I honestly I thought she was going to bring Caylee with 20 her when she came over. But she did not bring Caylee with her when she came 21 over. 22 EE: And then you said Casey called Amy from there? 23 JG: About 12:56. 24 EE: Uh-hum (affirmative). 25 20 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 JG: Uhm, from my understanding they were talking about the, the living situation. 2 Uhm, I, I don't know the extent of the conversation. Amy can fill that in. And 3 then she came over at 11:08 p.m. to Amy and Ricardo's place to stay with them. 4 EE: And she stayed the, the night of the 1st into the morning of the 2nd she stayed 5 with Amy and Ricardo? 6 JG: Correct. 7 EE: And then the night of the 2nd Ricardo leaves for vacation... 8 JG: (Makes sounds) 9 EE: The, that morning? 10 JG: Correct. Yes sir. 11 EE: Casey went to Voyage with Troy? 12 JG: Uh, I am, I think she went with Troy. I'm not a hundred percent sure. 13 EE: Okay, but she went to the Voyage that night you... 14 JG: Yeah (affirmative). 15 EE: ...believe? 16 JG: Yeah (affirmative). 17 EE: And Amy was working? 18 JG: Uh-hum (affirmative) 19 EE: But Casey stayed at Amy and Ricardo's again that night? 20 JG: Correct. 21 EE: The 2nd, with no child? 22 JG: Correct. 23 EE: And the 3rd? 24 JG: I received a text message from Casey. The text message specifically said uhm, 25 "There's something going on with my family right now. If my, if my mom tries to 21 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 call you don't say anything. Stay out of it. I'll take care of it." Something along 2 those lines. Uhm, there was no reason for her parents to contact me. Uh, as far 3 as I know they don't have my contact information and uhm, uh, I tried calling her 4 multiple times to find out what was going on. At one point she called me back, 5 left a voice mail uh, which specifically said, "Something going on. If my family 6 tries to call you don't say anything to them. Uhm, you have anything to say but 7 don't say anything to them.Uhm, I'll tell you about it later," and then left a 8 voicemail and that was it. Uhm... 9 EE: Okay. 10 JG: ...I never talked to her again that entire day. Uhm, I understand at about 2:46 11 p.m. that uhm, she got a new tattoo. Uhm, I don't know... 12 EE: On the 3rd? 13 JG: Correct. 14 EE: Who was with her? 15 JG: Nobody. 16 EE: Okay. 17 JG: She was by herself. 18 EE: How do we know this? 19 JG: Uhm, I spoke with Annie, one of her friends. I don't know Annie's last name. 20 Annie said that Casey went to her tattoo parlor, the one that Annie goes to all the 21 time and used Annie's tattoo artist uhm, to get a new tattoo that said, "Buena 22 Vita." I'm not sure of its location, but I know that she got a tattoo that said, 23 "Buena Vita" which means good life. 24 EE: Have you seen that? 25 22 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 JG: I have ne...never, I , I haven't, but yet I haven't seen Casey since the 1st of the 2 month, so I never got to see the tattoo. 3 EE: On the 5th, actually let's go back to the 4th. 4 JG: Well if you want to go further back to the 3rd. 5 EE: You got more on the 3rd? 6 JG: Yeah (affirmative). From five to eleven p.m. uhm, Troy's uh, Troy's girlfriend, 7 Melissa, was in town. Troy had to work so he left Melissa with Casey. Uhm, at 8 the time Troy told Melissa, "Hey, just heads up. Casey's a single mother, " which 9 Melissa appreciated because she had a friend who was a single father. So she 10 was looking forward that hearing a little bit more from that side of, of, of things 11 from what Troy told me. 12 EE: Uh-hum(affirmative). 13 JG: Uhm, but by the time Troy can back to get Melissa and they left, Troy said 14 Melissa told her that they, that Casey never said a word about Caylee the entire 15 time. 16 EE: I'll need uh, well I'll get it, try to get it from Troy. I got to i.d.(identify) Melissa too. 17 Okay. No child? 18 JG: No child, no? 19 EE: The 4th. Friday, the 4th. 20 JG: Correct. 21 EE: I got to step out and take this. 22 JG: Okay. 23 EE: (Sound of telephone ringing in background. Corporal Edwards speaking into 24 cellular phone to unknow person.) Hello? Yeah (affirmative), yeah (affirmative). 25 23 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 I haven't had a chance. I was on a recorded (inaudible). What's going on 2 (inaudible). 3 (Corporal Edwards exits the room) 4 JG: (Burps) (Mr. Grund is speaking to unknown person on cellular phone.) What 5 number did they call? (Caller's side of the conversation is inaudible-sounds like 6 a female voice.) I don't know how they got that unless they got it through the 7 School Board or something. Uhm, okay. Uhm, if anybody else calls take down 8 their name, and whatever information, uhm, and then let then know per the 9 instruction of law enforcement uhm, Jesse is not going to speaking to the press. 10 at all. Per the instruction of law enforcement. And if they have any question 11 about that to call the Orange County Sheriff's Office. Uhm, if they call again, this 12 is why I'm saying write down the name and their number. If they call agan , I've 13 just spoken with Orange County, they said they'll get their Public Information's 14 Office to give them a call, call and uhm, tell them to kind of back off. Okay? So 15 if I got a little padding. Ex..exactly. So, okay? Alright, ma I'll talk to you later. 16 'Bye. (Mr. Grund ends call.) (About two minutes pass and Mr Grund answers a 17 call on his cellular phone and speaks to an unknown caller.) Hey. Uh, did mom 18 tell you what I told Orange County, what Orange County told me to tell anybody 19 who calls? I understand that and I have an, CBS National News sent me a 20 Facebook message. So uhm, like I said, if they do that per law enforcement 21 instruction we're not supposed to talk. I'm no supposed to talk to anybody. And 22 if they have any questions they can call the Orange County Sheriff's Office. Now 23 if the same people call more that once, that's why I'm saying write down their 24 names, then the Public Information Officers can, can help us out. 25 24 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 EE: (Corporal Edwards returns to the room and is speaking to an unknown female.) 2 Okay. Alright. 3 JG: Alright? Possibly. Let me, let me talk to you about it in a little while. I got to 4 finish my interview. He just walked back in. 'Bye. (Mr. Grund and Corporal 5 Edwards resume their conversation.) 6 EE: Sorry 'bro. I took me, alright I took five. 7 JG: That's okay. My parents are frantic because now Fox in California and other 8 places are trying to, are getting my parents' numbers and calling them, so. 9 EE: Okay. Well it kicked right back on. Alright, back in the room. 10 JG: Okay. 11 EE: Where were we? The 4th? 12 EE: Uhm, yes, the 4th. I received a phone call from Casey from her cell phone, uhm, 13 at 3:17 p.m., at which time uh, she asked me, the first question she asked me, 14 what an I doing for the Fourth of July, which I told her I was spending the day 15 with my family. And I asked her about the text message she sent me the day 16 before. Uhm, her exact words to me were uhm, "I don't want to talk about it." 17 Uhm, "If I, uh, I'll probably talk to you about it later once I get drunk." 18 EE: (Speaking to unknown male.) About an hour ago. 19 RL: Alright (inaudible.) 20 EE: Sergeant Allen Lee stepped in to ask an insipid question. (Corporal Edwars 21 resumes speaking with Mr. Grund.) Not really insipid, but it was kind of, me 22 being me to break up the moment. 23 JG: Amy 24 EE: UH... 25 25 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 JG: Amy was at the party with Casey according to what Amy has told me. And she 2 told Casey that Caylee was at uh, Sea World with her nanny on the (inaudible.) 3 EE: And this was straight from Casey to you? 4 JG: Uhm, the phone conversation? 5 EE: Uh-hum (affirmative). 6 JG: Yes, absolutely. 7 EE: The 5th. Saturday, the 5th. 8 JG: My understanding is Casey is with a gentleman named Will, who is a friend of 9 Amy's, uhm, during the day. I believe they went shopping at Ikea and a couple 10 other places. 11 EE: How do, how do we get this information? 12 JG: Uhm, directly from Will and Amy. I've spoken with both. 13 EE: So Amy's with him too? 14 JG: Correct. Yes sir. 15 EE: Okay, cool. Thanks brother. 16 UM: Uh-hum (affirmative.) 17 EE: The 6th, Troy receives a text message from Casey? 18 JG: That Casey is with Tony. 19 EE: Uh-hum (affirmative.) 20 JG: And it's about 12:52. Uhm, Troy was trying to get in contact with Casey about 21 the trip to Puerto Rico that they had planned for the week. 22 EE: So everybody was going to go to Puerto Rico as a, oh, this, this lump sum, this 23 group of friends? 24 JG: Correct. This is actually something, some time back in May, April, May, Casey 25 had called me very excited about and told me that she, "Guess where I'm going? 26 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 Puerto Rico." Uhm, those were her exact words. I don't, I just don't remember 2 the exact date of the conversation. Uhm, and she had actually planned the dates 3 for the trip and planned a lot of the trip out. They were going to stay with 4 Ricardo. Ricardo has family in Puerto Rico who they were going to stay with. So 5 all they had to pay was for the flight and some of their food and expenses down 6 there and that's it. 7 EE: Okay. so we skip ahead to the 8th. 8 JG: Uh-hum (affirmative.) 9 EE: Amy leaves for Puerto Rico? 10 JG: Correct. 11 EE: Casey takes her to the airport? 12 JG: Correct. 13 EE: What did they drive to the airport? Do we know? 14 JG: Uh, Amy's car as far as I understood. 15 EE: Okay. And that's where Amy starts, or Casey starts to borrow Amy's car? 16 JG: Correct. 17 EE: And you said that she told Amy that uh, her car had been towed to the shop? 18 JG: Amy had asked about the, not to sorry, to interrupt, Amy had asked about the 19 the gas can, whether or not she got her car back. Casey told her, "Oh, well the 20 my car was towed. Uhm, but my parents got it out and it's in the shop." 21 EE: But she loans her the car? 22 JG: Correct. 23 EE: A little, red car? 24 JG: Yes sir. 25 EE: The 9th you say that Ricardo uhm, left Orlando and went to Puerto Rico? 27 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 JG: Correct. 2 EE: Who drove him to the airport? 3 JG: Uhm, no idea. Well, I believe he had a , he flew in from Boston , and because of 4 the, the variance in flights he missed his flight, and I believe her just stayed at the 5 Airport and waited for the other flight to go to Puerto Rico. 6 EE: Okay. And he may have made it home? 7 JG: Yeah (affirmative). 8 EE: The 10th... 9 JG: N... 10 EE: ...nothing? 11 JG: Nothing. 12 EE: The 11th, July 11th (inaudible). 13 JG: Troy leaves for Puerto Rico. He had a job interview and then so that's why he 14 left. Before he left uhm, he was trying to text Casey to find out is she was still 15 going. And she said that she was busy at work and wasn't going to get a chance 16 to go. 17 EE: So she's downplaying her uh, possibility of going? 18 JG: Correct. Not that entire week of the 8th through th 15th Casey's driving around 19 Amy's car. The previous week she was driving around Tony's car for the entire 20 week. The 30th through the 5th when Tony arrived back in town from New York. 21 EE: Okay. And the 15th she picked up Amy at the airport? 22 JG: Correct, yes sir. 23 EE: Uh, now you said something about she was boasting that she rete...received a 24 call from her daughter. 25 28 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 JG: From what Amy tells me uhm, she received a , uh, Casey was talking about that 2 she received a phone call from Caylee, almost excited about it, as in hey, my 3 daughter called me from a cell phone. Uhm, and then Casey dropped Amy off at 4 the house. 5 EE: And this is the, the whole group of friends? 6 JG: Uh, I am not sure. I just know Amy for sure. I'm not sure about the rest. 7 EE: And the 16th is when the police became involved? 8 JG: Yes sir. 9 EE: Out of all those notes, and everything you kept track of, anything that stands out 10 in your mind that I need to make not of uh, investigative wise? 11 JG: Well I believe that uh, uh, (sighs), I heard Caylee on the telephone on the 24th. 12 But anybody seeing Casey r...really between the 11th of June and basically the 13 end of June well is really the huge gap in regards to where was Casey during the 14 11th through the end of June. Because that, that is where in people saw, talked 15 to her, but nobody saw her. She wasn't hanging out with anybody, and she 16 wasn't staying at home. And the only person that she could have been staying 17 with would have been Tony Lazaro. 18 EE: Uh-hum (affirmative). 19 JG: Uhm, I think that is where the, that is where this, this really gets specific in 20 regards to where is Caylee. Because they was her on the 10th. And according to 21 her parents she saw her on the 15th uhm, at grandpa's place. But then, you 22 know, the 16th through the 30th where, where is Casey? Where is Caylee? 23 EE: What have the, have the parents talked to much? 24 JG: Uhm, I mean I help, I help them the house with uh, relocate...with turning out 25 the fliers and getting publicity out there, and things of that nature. And they've 29 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 talked to me and sat down and wanted to know what my relationship with Caylee, 2 Casey was, because Casey was not forthcoming about any portion of my 3 relationship uhm, with her parents. 4 EE: What are the parents gut feeling? 5 JG: Uhm, they believe that Casey gave Caylee to someone and, but Caylee is safe 6 and with someone that she knows and cares about. 7 EE: But they don't know who? 8 JG: They don't know who. 9 EE: How did mom forget about the 15th? 10 JG: Uhm, I am, huh, you know I, I just heard about that and I am not sure. I mean it 11 would make s...it doesn't make sense that on a day like the 15th, which would be 12 Father's Day, that you would forget having Caylee with you on Father's Day 13 when you went to go visit your father in a nursing home. That I, I just don't 14 understand. Uhm, but you know uh, the , you know I, I haven't seen, I personally 15 haven't seen Caylee Marie Anthony since the beginning of the year. But that 16 was because of work and because her mother just, we, we didn't hang out a lot. 17 EE: You have just heard her? 18 JG: Heard her, yes. 19 EE: Uh-hum (affirmative). You've seen Casey? 20 JG: I have seen Casey. 21 EE: But you haven't seen Caylee? 22 JG: I have not seen Caylee. 23 EE: But you heard her on the 24th... 24 JG: 24th during the conversation and ... 25 EE: And possibly on other conversations? 30 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 JG: Exactly. It was not, it was not, it was always normal to hear Caylee in the 2 background when I talked to Casey. 3 EE: But your adamant regarding... 4 JG: The 24th. 5 EE: ...the 24th? 6 JG: Absolutely. 7 EE: Because that's the day you resigned? 8 JG: Correct. Yes sir. 9 EE: Okay, pretty uh, a pretty noteworthy event in one's life. 10 JG: Correct. And yeah (affirmative), actually on my phone records it shows the 24th 11 my, as soon as my conversation ended with her... 12 EE: Uh-hum (affirmative). 13 JG: ...I was on the phone with uh, the person who had to let me in the back door of 14 where I was going in, in to resign. So his number is the, the very next number 15 that I called so that I can get into the door and do what I have to do. Uhm, 16 another thing should be noted, there was a, the paternity test that was done uhm, 17 proved that I was not Caylee's father. Uhm, it said that uh, the alleles and 18 combinations prove that the alleged biological father is not uhm, Caylee's 19 biological father. 20 EE: Now in that, and that card that you ordered, around that information you've 21 ordered is the card going to be available for Caylee? 22 JG: Yes. 23 EE: The... 24 JG: All of Caylee, all of Caylee's... 25 EE: Her D... 31 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG 1 JG: ...DNA and... 2 EE: So her DNA will be available to you? 3 JG: Correct. Yes. 4 EE: And they said they'd give that to you? 5 JG: Yes. they did. 6 EE: DNA card available. Then you, as soon as you get that you'll get that to me? 7 JG: Absolutely. 8 EE: Okay. Raise your right hand for me brother. Do you swear and affirm that 9 everything you've said today is true and correct? 10 JG: Yes, I swear. 11 EE: One more time just state your name for me. 12 JG: Jesse Aaron Grund. 13 EE: Corporal Eric Edwards, 1:06 p.m., July 23, 2008. conclusion of interview. 14 Thanks man. 15 JG: No problem. Uhm, when the paternity test results... 16 End of recorded statement. 17 This transcript has been reviewed for accuracy. 18 19 _______________________ 20 CORPORAL WILLIAM EDWARDS, OCSO DEPUTY SHERIFF 21 22 23 24 25 32 Grund, Jesse/Case #08-069208/GG |
