Elaina Steinfurth (age 18 mo) MISSING - Toledo, Ohio - June 2, 2013 Elaina Jade Steinfurth, 18 months, missing June 2, 2013, Toledo, Ohio. Her mother, Angela (Mories) Steinfurth called her boyfriend's mother (Julie King) around 6:30-7:00pm on Saturday, June 1st, 2013 saying they had no place to stay and asking if she could stay overnight with her two children, Elaina, 18 months, and Kylee, age 4. On Sunday, June 2nd, the two children's father, Terry "TJ" Steinfurth, Jr. showed up to pick them up, at which time Angela informed him that Elaina was suddenly missing! Elaina was last seen at the Steven King's home, 704 Federal St. in East Toledo, Ohio Elaina has blue eyes and brown hair, approx. 2 feet tall, weighs 21 pounds. It was after Frank gave that information to investigators that Angela Steinfurth was arrested for child endangerment, for which she remained jailed on Monday night." Dennis Bolfa, who lives across from the East Toledo home in the 700 block of Federal Street where the toddler was last seen, said he saw Elaina’s mother, Angela Steinfurth, and her boyfriend Steven W. King leave in their van and return 10-15 minutes later. “I thought they were just going to get cigarettes or something,” he said. “It didn’t dawn on me at the time.” " When Bolfa was interviewed by Toledo Free Press on June 18, he had not yet reported this information to the FBI or police. “A couple days before, she said, ‘[Elaina’s father Terry Steinfurth Jr.] ain’t getting my kid,’” Bolfa said. FRED LEFEBVRE, WSPD (via telephone): He says at least a period of 20 minutes. Some time between midnight and 1:00, she and her boyfriend left, came back about 20 minutes later. He`s saying that she seemed a little distressed, but at midnight, it`s hard to tell. But that`s the story he`s sticking with. The interesting thing is, he didn`t remember it until just yesterday and called the FBI with that information today.

Clark, what about the mystery witness? CLARK GOLDBAND (06/24/13): We`ve just obtained a police report filed a few days after the baby went missing and there are some bombshells in this report. A witness called law enforcement claiming she saw the baby and the mom just a few hours before Elaina went missing between the hours of 7:00 and 9:45 at a gas station convenience store. Inside the convenience store, she says "The child appeared fine, didn`t speak." Mom was buying honeybuns and fruit punch and she`s positive it was the mom according to the police report because she claims the mom used to work at the gas station. So, Nancy, we were wondering if someone saw the child that day she was reported missing. According to this police report, a witness just may have. BRETT LAURICE (Investigative Reporter) (06/24/13): Yes, absolutely, Nancy. It`s a worker at a Gas-N-Go. And here`s what`s interesting about it is she said, at that time, you were right, it`s between 7:00 and about 9:45 in the morning she said she didn`t notice that the bay was injured. You know, we`ve been talking a lot about the bump on the head, the black eye, the blood around the nose. She didn`t notice that, and when she was questioned by police, and even questioned by some reporters, she said that`s something she definitely would have noticed. But mommy shows up, gets some grocery, pays for them with her food stamps card, and here`s the sort of the twist to all this, the cameras were down in the gas station. So none of this was caught on camera for police to review but police have that they have interviewed her as a witness.

Angela allegedly said he left to go look for Elaina. The police report revealed additional information about the timeline of events on June 2. According to the report, Angela said she last saw Elaina when she put her down for a nap around 1 p.m. She [Angela] said she and her ex-boyfriend [Steven King] then went to the Family Dollar and, when they returned, the door to the bedroom where Elaina had been sleeping was still closed so she did not go in to check on her." She was arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court today and ordered to be held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $250,000." "During the news conference at the downtown police Safety Building, police Capt. Wes Bombrys said the investigation is ongoing. He said Mrs. Steinfurth told investigators Wednesday she knew the girl, Elaina Steinfurth, had been injured and that she did not seek medical attention. “The condition of the baby and the severity of the injuries, I can't tell ya,” the captain said. “We don't know. The location of Elaina, we still don't know, and that's why we say it's still an ongoing investigation. The captain said the investigation is still a missing persons case and has not been reclassified as a homicide. No other charges have been filed. The captain declined to comment on who possibly injured the young girl or if Mrs. Steinfurth had any role in injuring the toddler. Angela allegedly said he left to go look for Elaina. The police report revealed additional information about the timeline of events on June 2. According to the report, Angela said she last saw Elaina when she put her down for a nap around 1 p.m. She [Angela] said she and her ex-boyfriend [Steven King] then went to the Family Dollar and, when they returned, the door to the bedroom where Elaina had been sleeping was still closed so she did not go in to check on her." They acted surprised, like that was new to them. They asked me where did I hear it. I said, I was just told this by Angela on my front porch. After the interview with the FBI, they brought Angela in, questioned her again for about an hour-and-a-half, and then took her back downtown for more additional questioning. Then they released her. And then she wound up going back downtown, like, a week later for more questioning, and that`s when she was arrested.

Elam told Adams that Steinfurth had confessed to helping her boyfriend hide Elaina’s body. “[Elam] called Tuesday night, and she was really upset,” Adams said. “She said, ‘I don’t know why this woman has decided to confide in me.’” According to Elam, Steinfurth’s boyfriend Steven W. King threw Elaina up against the wall between the night of June 1 and the morning of June 2, injuring her. The two then put the toddler down for a nap. When they returned, Elaina was dead. “They wrapped [Elaina] up in a blanket, and took her down by the High-Level Bridge and [King] stood behind [Angela] and she threw this baby in the river,” Adams said."

Clark, what about the mystery witness? CLARK GOLDBAND (06/24/13): We`ve just obtained a police report filed a few days after the baby went missing and there are some bombshells in this report. A witness called law enforcement claiming she saw the baby and the mom just a few hours before Elaina went missing between the hours of 7:00 and 9:45 at a gas station convenience store. Inside the convenience store, she says "The child appeared fine, didn`t speak." Mom was buying honeybuns and fruit punch and she`s positive it was the mom according to the police report because she claims the mom used to work at the gas station. So, Nancy, we were wondering if someone saw the child that day she was reported missing. According to this police report, a witness just may have. BRETT LAURICE (Investigative Reporter) (06/24/13): Yes, absolutely, Nancy. It`s a worker at a Gas-N-Go. And here`s what`s interesting about it is she said, at that time, you were right, it`s between 7:00 and about 9:45 in the morning she said she didn`t notice that the bay was injured. You know, we`ve been talking a lot about the bump on the head, the black eye, the blood around the nose. She didn`t notice that, and when she was questioned by police, and even questioned by some reporters, she said that`s something she definitely would have noticed. But mommy shows up, gets some grocery, pays for them with her food stamps card, and here`s the sort of the twist to all this, the cameras were down in the gas station. So none of this was caught on camera for police to review but police have that they have interviewed her as a witness.

"Heather says she is positive of the identity because Angela worked at the gas station a few months ago. She says Angela only worked there for a few weeks, but would not have mistaken her identity. "The gas station does have video surveillance, but the day before the disappearance, the system was down. Heather says the store owner cam in later that morning and fixed the system. "Last week, the Toledo Free Press interviewed another source that claimed a relative obtained a jailhouse confession from Steinfurth. Jobeth Adams, whose sister Connie Elam is allegedly a cell-mate of Angela Steinfurth, said that the young mother admitted to playing a role in disposing of Elaina's body. Elam also told her sister that Steinfurth claimed her ex-boyfriend, Steven King, had injured Elaina the evening of June 1st and that the child died from those injuries."

Although they appreciate the help and donations received from the community, the family says they have not gone door-to-door or placed these collection cans, and they don't want anyone to be scammed. Anyone who does wish to donate can do so by donating directly to family stationed at Federal and Leonard. They have used donations received to help feed and gas up the cars of volunteers out searching for Elaina."

"In light of the latest news, volunteer searchers began combing the bottom of the Maumee River using grapnel anchors to search for more evidence themselves. "Basically we're hoping to come up with anything that's down at the bottom, any evidence or anything that's down there," volunteer searcher Andres Perez said." "Perez said that the anchors were purchased by Elaina's father, T.J. Steinfurth. Unfortunately, so far, volunteers have not been as "lucky" at finding clues as the two unsuspecting fisherman that found "hair."

I would like to say they are not connected with us,” said Steinfurth. He continued, “If you have a can set out at your business, we thank you for your support but please take it down." "Steinfurth believes investigators will conduct a water search sometime on Monday. He also conveyed his disappointment for the lack of communication the family has received from detectives handling the case."
