"I have close contact with this family and have always thought the story of Erica going to "visit" her grandmother was bogus! Family members have questioned the parents on numerous occasions and was always told she was still with her grandmother. Erica is not in the Asheville area! Since Erica's biological grandmother passed away more than 5 years ago, how could the parents have sent her to live there 2 years ago? Don't take a rocket scientist to figure this out! Come on deputies put this together! JUSTICE FOR ERICA!!!!!"

Investigators told Eyewitness News that Erica Parsons' adoptive parents lied for two years about where she was. Casey and Sandy Parsons told their family Erica was going to live with her grandmother in Asheville. Eyewitness News checked and that grandmother died about five years ago."
"On Wednesday night, family members of 15-year-old Erica sat down only with Eyewitness News to express their hurt, sorrow and disgust over the disappearance of the young girl nearly two years ago. They said they found out a week ago on Wednesday that Erica was missing, but since 2011, family members said they were told the adopted girl was living in Asheville with her birth family."
"Sad but at the same time I feel like that Erica where she's at now is in a much better place than what she had here on earth," said a family member

Erica's adoptive parents never allowed her to have contact with other family members. Myself as well as other family members have contacted DSS on several occasions, talk about dropping the ball. I have been told to keep my mouth shut, but honestly I don't know how much longer I can do that."

"I can't even begin to express how upsetting this is! I knew the Parsons when I was younger. I played with the oldest growing up and every time I was down there, Erica was treated like s**t. I may have only been in middle school but I vaguely remember how awful they treated her! Every time I went over there, She was sitting behind the Mom's chair in the living room on the floor. Every time I would ask if she was okay, I got a evil glare upon me for even asking. The 2nd oldest brother would hit her and say "It's okay, She likes it" and hit her even harder. The daughter would play with her but be completely unfair to her and push and shove her off the bed. I remember seeing her cry and both would be say she's okay. I wish the worst on the Mom and Dad! I will never forget how poorly she was treated in 2 years I lived down the street from them. And I'm not surprised at the LEAST to hear that the parents are not cooperating in the investigation. The way the treated her was not how a child should have been treated. She was not loved in that house what so ever! I can only imagine how she was treated after they moved. I pray they find where she is if she is even alive. 2 f******g years!!!! Once again, They never cared about her!!!!!!"

I have heard that this family was a wild bunch and that police have been there on a few occasions. I hope and pray that Erica is found safe and alive. Perhaps Nancy Grace does need to get involved, cause she would make their heads spin at the national coverage. If the Parsons are hiding anything, they had best come clean now."

The State Bureau of Inv. and the FBI have joined resources
Parsons Attorney said "the parents indicated Erica was a “rebellious teenager.” Sherrill said the couple told him they spoke with the teen a while ago and she told them she did not want to return home." Thur . [Erica Parsons]

Erica is described as small for her age. She is Caucasian, 4 feet 5 inches tall, 85-90 pounds, with a thin build. She has brown hair and brown eyes.
(Excerpt from interview or article) - (www.salisburypost.com 08/08/13):
Official: Parents of missing teen gave false Information
"Her older brother, James Parsons, reported her missing on July 30. He told authorities that, when he asked about her absence previously, his parents said she'd gone to live with other family members. The teen's adoptive parents, Casey Stone Parsons and Sandy Parsons, initially talked with investigators, but became increasingly uncooperative, according to the Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's Capt. John Sifford said the parents initially provided some information and possible leads to the location of Erica Parsons, saying she may be in Asheville with relatives, but investigators “have determined that the information the parents provided was not true."
"The couple hired local attorney Carlyle Sherrill a few days after detectives began their investigation. Sherrill told a Post reporter Tuesday the couple had no known relatives in Asheville, but the girl's biological mother had ties to that city. He said the parents indicated Erica was a “rebellious teenager.” Sherrill said the couple told him they spoke with the teen a while ago and she told them she did not want to return home."

Several calls for help made from home of missing Rowan Co. teen
"Through records requests, Channel 9 learned that in the past two years, Rowan County sheriff's deputies have been called to the home seven different times, sometimes for 911 calls about violent incidents in the home. Officials at the Rowan County Emergency Communications Center told Channel 9 that in August 2011, deputies were called to the home for a domestic violence incident while a 3-year-old child was inside the house. That call was just a few months before authorities say Parsons disappeared."
"In 2012, authorities said someone at the home filed a missing-persons report not for Erica, but for her adopted sister, Brooke. Authorities said the teen's mother Casey Parsons was concerned because Brooke hadn't been seen since the night before and she wanted officers to search for her. According to records, the teen returned home while deputies were at the scene."
"And twice this year, deputies said they went to the home for more domestic violence calls. Channel 9 learned through court records that some of those calls for service were tied to Parsons’ adoptive brother, the person who first reported her missing last week."

Deputies say Parsons was last seen by her step-brother, James Parsons, when she was 13-years-old
"In February 2012, they received a phone call from her and she let them know in no uncertain terms she didn't want to come back," Sherrill told WBTV. "This is a rebellious teenager who seemed to be safe, seemed to be where she wants to be." Thur . [Casey and Sandy Parsons]

"Attorney Sherrill says the couple didn't report Erica missing because they thought she just decided not to come back."
(Excerpt from interview or article) - (www.wistv.com 08/08/13):
FBI joins investigation - Parents become 'increasingly uncooperative'
"Parsons was reported missing on July 30 to the Sheriff's Office by a step-sibling, investigators told WBTV. She was last seen on November 19, 2011 at a home along the 200-block of Miller Chapel Road in Salisbury. Deputies say Parsons was last seen by her step-brother, James Parsons, when she was 13-years-old. James Parsons told investigators that his parents said Erica went to stay with other family members, when he asked where she was. He contacted police about Erica last week after recently moving out of his parents' home."
"The parents have since hired a local attorney and refuse to cooperate further with Sheriff's Investigators in this case," deputies told WBTV. That attorney, Carlyle Sherrill, told WBTV that his clients were contacted by the Erica's birth mother in 2011. She introduced the family to a couple, some type of distant relative, who supposedly lived in the Asheville area."
"Sherrill says the Parsons let Erica visit the couple three times and after the third visit Erica never came back home. "In February 2012, they received a phone call from her and she let them know in no uncertain terms she didn't want to come back," Sherrill told WBTV. "This is a rebellious teenager who seemed to be safe, seemed to be where she wants to be."

Missing teen's parents: We've done nothing wrong
"Also on Tuesday, WBTV investigated the claim made by Erica's adoptive parents that Erica had been home schooled while she lived with them. On a state web site there is indeed a listing for a registered home school named "Parson's Christian School," with the administrator listed as Casey Parsons. On Monday, a week after authorities notified the media about Erica, a detective with the National Center For Missing and Exploited Children spoke to WBTV. "It's just an unusual case that we don't often see. The delay in the reporting is something that we don't see very often like this so we're very concerned about this child's welfare," said Robert G. Lowery Jr."
"Casey and Sandy Parsons, Erica's adoptive parents, sat down with WBTV's Coleen Harry on Thursday morning, nearly a week after she was reported missing. The Parsons made a plea for Erica to get in touch with them. When asked if she believes Erica is okay, Casey Parsons said "yes I believe she's okay. I think she's scared to call home and say I'm alright. I think they're telling her she's going to get in trouble."
"Erica's biological mother disputes Sherill's claim arguing that both of Erica's grandmothers have been dead for at least five years. WBTV contacted Asheville Police for comment. "We have been in communication with the folks in Rowan County and the authorities there have not instructed us or asked us to do anything with regards to this case," said Sgt. Dave Romick with APD.

Reporter: And you said that you all had been looking for her as well, how have you been trying to look for her?

Casey Parsons: Oh, we've always, even my other kids, even before this- we would just look on Facebook to see if Erica had ever created Facebook pages and stuff just to see what she looked like and stuff. Um, but we never had success in finding anything. There is Irene Goodman's on Facebook. There's some in China Grove. Them pictures that's on Facebook don't match the pictures of the lady that I seen. So, I don't think that's the lady that's in China Grove. Um, that's the only pictures I've ever seen of Irene Goodman. The pictures that we seen at the police station of Jana- Janice Jackson, the Strawberry lady, um- the ones they showed me wasn't her. But, then they said they found her at Carolina beach, and she was the lady, they have not- actually, refused to show me her picture. So, I could never identify that lady and don't know what they see and the woman- if they even went to house too and they refused to show me the picture of Kelly also. So.

Reporter: Had you all- yourselves, your family, been to Asheville or contacted Asheville law enforcement yourselves?

Casey Parsons: Well, the lady up there said she had her- the next door neighbor was a teacher and a tutor and that she was getting her- she was getting tutored with her because Erica has a huge learning disability. She's very- she's- if you would say equivalent to grade levels, she's probably three levels behind. And, she went to public school here until it was- it would get embarrassing for her because all the groups that she was with- they actually wouldn't even call her at a grade level. She would have to go to another room by herself with other kids that was way younger than her. And, it would get very embarrassing and she did not like that. So, we home schooled her. And, Nan knew all about the home school. She knew about all of her little tests and workbooks and everything that we worked with and she said that there was a teacher next door that would help her with this. And, that she would put her back into public school. Now, I don't know if she did that.

Casey Parsons: But, see though, I met Nan several times and talked to her. Nan is a wonderful lady. I had no reason not to trust Nan and I knew Erica wanted to stay there and did not want to come back here. So, I was not going to sit there and try to force Erica back when she was doing just fine and having fun and being with her grandmother. I just- there was no reason for me- I had no reason to doubt there was anything going on with Erica.

Reporter: They say, "Sheriff’s Office Investigators have followed up on information on possible locations of Erica Parsons across the State of NC, but so far, none of the information provided by Casey & Sandy Parsons have been found to be factual." And to that, you say- what?

Casey Parsons: They're lying. And he warned us that he would say stuff like that when we got our lawyer. They proved there was the other lady there, Strawberry. And, we also got told, um, Billy Goodman's mother is from Asheville and she resided in Mooresville. And, I don't know, I don't remember what they said her name was. And, the Strawberry lady has lived everywhere including also Mooresville. This is all comes from the detective. And, there is a Kelly and she does have kids. That we- it was just getting to hard- we gave her away, or it was just too much stress and everything that we just do away with her. And, it was very horrible stuff that they was- that they would say to us. And, on the day that we got- we called lawyer Sherill was- the man that James is staying with right now actually called us and told us that the detectives had told him that this was a homicide investigation and they really weren't even trying to find Erica. So, that's when we knew we better go call somebody if that was the truth. And, then we confronted the detective in the lobby when we went back about what Scott had called and said to us.

Reporter: They asked you or accused you of killing her?

Casey Parsons: They- I don't know what you mean, the difference- they asked me did I kill her, and they told us- his exact words about selling was, "You sold her because the medical bills was too high."

Casey Parsons: Cabarrus County.

Reporter: Cabarrus County? Okay. Do you guys still receive any sort of financial compensation from DSS or the state, are you still receiving that money for Erica-

Casey Parsons: You have to understand about that. Along with that comes Medicaid, and I knew that was Erica's only way of going to the doctor if she became sick and needed to go to the doctor. So, if you cancel that too, you cancel her insurance that she has, and that was her only health insurance at all. And, I actually have the letter over there that tells about receiving that. And, there's two criterias for it- legal responsibility or financial responsibility.

Reporter: So, how did you use the money, then?

Casey Parsons: It- just put it in the bank, and just like we received it, and it's in- it's sitting in the bank. 'Cause-

Reporter: No one went to Irene, Nan?

Reporter:: Assuming Erica, like many teenagers, has access to the internet- she can probably see what is happening, what would you say to her?

Casey Parsons: Well, actually, her half-sister actually told the detectives that she had talked to her just earlier this year on Facebook and asked her, "How are you doing?" And she replied, "I'm fine." And that was her step- it's her half-sister, Carolyn's biological daughter, Brittany Cline. And, we was told that during the two days of questioning, that Brittany had contacted her and said she's doing fine.

Reporter: So, that was three months ago?

Casey Parsons: She said, "Earlier this year, I talked to Erica on Facebook." She had a Facebook page and she talked to her and asked her, "How are you doing?" and she replied, "I'm fine."

Reporter: How would she be able to find one?

Casey Parsons: I cannot find no Facebook. Brittany said though that she had it under a different name. Um, Brooke is gone, isn't she? Brooke remembers the day that Brittany said- we actually even have pictures of where Brittany wrote Brooke where the Facebook thing was- my daughter, Brooke- pictures of her saying where she talked to her and Erica replied, "I'm fine."

Casey Parsons: First, let me just explain that family real fast. He's sitting here and I know he don't want to say anything against the family. We don't do that. We just always keep our mouth shut and kept to ourselves. This, to us, was our family that lived here. My kids. We've been shunned by that family since we been married, even before we had kids. I can tell you that his parents and them, I could tell you- count on one hand how many times they laid eyes on Erica in probably ten years, much less the last two to three, what they're saying. That- no. We didn't go to birthday parties. We didn't go to Christmas stuff at their house. We didn't do that. That was- that has been a long family history with that family. And, you gotta also remember, the son that's doing this to us is with that family. So, that's a lot of why they're saying this and doing this.

Reporter: She's 15 years old. You still technically have legal custody. If she's found, is she coming back here?

Casey Parsons: That's what- no, that's what I was hoping all this would do. I'm hoping that Erica is not scared and will come forward 'cause there is two other little kids involved that she loves very much. And, I don't think she realizes that they have been removed from this house because of this. If she would just call, I understand that she wants to stay with Nan, and that's- I told her before, that's fine. We can work this out, and they just want it legal. I'm willing to do that. If Nan wants to go and do legal stuff, we'll go do legal stuff so all this will be resolved. I won't make Erica still come home. She's welcome to stay there as long as DSS and them are present and says she can stay there. But, she needs to just call. One of them needs to call. So, they can say, "I'm fine. I'm here." Let's just get the legal stuff taken care of, and we can decide then at that point if Nan's, in the laws eyes, 'cause they took my parental rights saying it's safe away, so let's let them say if it's safe for her to stay. 'Cause, to me, it was. I'm more than willing to let her stay there if she just call and tell us. Just come and we'll do- we'll get something where she can still go with that grandmother. We'll just do it on the paper this time the right way. I'm more than willing to do that. But, it could get her little brother and sister back in this house where they're not going through this, and all it would take it just to set up- just minutes, "I'm okay." And, we will do it. I'll pay for the stuff to get signed over if she would just come and let us sign papers. Lets just sign it and do it legal so the law will be okay with this, and they will see where she's at.

Casey Parsons: That's what Brittany- Brittany said. Do you remember the name that Brittany said she was going under on the Facebook? When she wrote, "Are you okay?" and she wrote back, "I'm okay."? You don't remember that? Have you got that still on your thing?

Female off camera: She just told me about how she just wrote her about a few months back and all she got from Erica was, "I'm fine."

Casey Parsons: Okay. But it was supposed to be a whole other Facebook, it wasn't under Erica Parsons. So, we even been looking for Erica Goodman. And then, now since we found Strawberry's name, Janice Jackson, we was looking for Erica Jackson. We been looking for everything that you could think of.

Reporter: Primarily searching on Facebook?

Casey Parsons: I am, 'cause that's the last- that's the last time that I know that anybody says they've talked to her, was Brittany. So, we started doing all these Facebook things, and trying to see if maybe she's just under there or something where she'll call.

"Written and signed statements of more than five of these family members revealed a troubled relationship with Erica Parsons and Sandy and Casey Parsons. In these statements Erica Parsons is described as a very small for her age and rarely interacting with the family and extended family.

Several of these statements described Casey Parsons as abusive and described Casey telling family members that Erica was grounded or being disciplined for something. Erica was often made to stand in a corner while being punished. The family members stated Erica always seemed to be 'grounded" and never allowed to interact with the family. In a statement another child in the home told the family member that Casey took a toy gun and broke it while hitting Erica with the toy. The child was upset because the toy gun was their favorite toy.

This statement also stated that Casey Parsons told family members that she couldn't tolerate Erica, that she does not claim Erica as her daughter. In another statement investigators were told that Casey Parsons told a family member that she can't stand to look at Erica and said she reminds her of Carolyn and she hates Carolyn. These statements also described consistently seeing bruises and bumps on Erica's arms and legs that made them feel Erica was being struck by family members. Casey always blamed these marks on other children in the family."

Casey brought the child to a family member's house to live and showed them bruises that were described as 'all over Erica's butt." This family member stated to investigators that Erica was very small and was in first grade and wore "3T" size clothes. While living with this family member Erica ate and played like normal and began to gain weight. While Erica stayed with this family they stated that Erica told them that Casey and Sandy hit her. This family member said that after about 8 months Casey Parsons came and took Erica back and stated she was afraid that DSS would find out she didn't have her and she was still getting money for her."

Investigators search home of missing teen Erica Parsons
"Eyewitness News was first alerted to the scene where police had the road near the home shut down around 11:15 a.m. Chopper 9 immediately was dispatched to the scene on Miller Chapel Road near Salisbury, where investigators could be seen loading evidence into a truck."
"Neighbors said the scene on their street is almost surreal. "One police officer showed up and next thing you know there was probably 25 or 30 cars there," said Jerry Fairbank. "They are going in the house. They are walking around the house."
"They started coming around to each of the houses and interviewing us. We spoke with one of the deputies this morning and gave him our written statement," said Patti Miller, another neighbor."
"Police were stopping and turning drivers around if they don't live on the street. They reopened the street late Wednesday night."

Neighbors want answers about missing Rowan Co. girl
"It was long overdue. That girl had been missing for a long time. I just wish somebody would have reported it a lot sooner," said Vickie Yates, a neighbor. Patricia Howard is also concerned. "Digging up the yard, and search the house and the family is nowhere to be seen. It's unbearable," she said. Erica has been missing for nearly two years. Her adoptive parents never reported it. Neighbors are shocked that no one seemed to know."
"Patti Miller lived next door and talked to the Parsons on a regular basis. She says they don't deserve to get Erica back if she's found safe. "If they haven't had the need to find her in 18 months, then I don't know if they should necessarily have her back. I wouldn't want my child living with someone who didn't care enough in 18 months to go looking for her," she said."

Sandy Parsons convicted in 1994 and again in 1997 of assault against wife Casey Parsons
"Capt. John Sifford, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, said Erica lived at the home on Miller Chapel Road with Casey and Sandy Parsons and their biological son James, now 20." Thur . [Erica Parsons] (Excerpt from interview or article) (www.charlotteobserver.com 08/15/13)
Search begins at property where missing Rowan teen lived
"The story took another twist Thursday, when Casey Parsons, Erica’s adoptive mother, was hospitalized at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. The hospital said Parsons is in good condition. There was no word as to why Casey Parsons was hospitalized, but WCNC-TV, the Observer’s news partner, is reporting that Parsons has been hospitalized several times in the past due to complications from stomach surgery."
"Reports of violence: Court documents obtained by the Observer show reports of violence in the Parsonses’ home, although none involved Erica. Sandy Parsons was twice found guilty of assaulting his wife, according to a criminal records check. After the 1994 conviction, he was ordered to serve three years probation, during which a judge ordered him not to assault, harass or molest Casey Parsons. After again being convicted of assaulting his wife in 1997, Sandy Parsons was sentenced to a year of probation and required to do community service."

JonBenet Ramsey magazines, red-stained walls at Parsons' home
"Upon searching the family’s house, police say they found baseboards and flooring with red stains, two large knives wrapped in shrink wrap and a bag of JonBenet Ramsey magazines. Investigators removed some of the drywall from the closet area to test it for blood."
The report also mentioned more about the family history. According to the report, Erica’s brother said Casey and Sandy Parsons abused her physically and mentally, and routinely beat her. He reportedly told police it consistently seemed like the Parsons were punishing her. He added Casey refused to claim Erica as her daughter.
The Parsons reportedly continued to receive state checks for Erica once she wasn’t with them. The warrant says Erica went to live with another relative for a time before she went missing, but the Parsons took her back in fear they would stop getting money. Investigators allege this is also the reason they waited to report Erica missing.
Police say while she stayed with those relatives, Erica told them her parents hit her. She also gained weight, size and played normally while staying with the other relative, the report says. The family allegedly told police they kept in contact with Erica’s birth mother over Facebook, but they have no evidence of it. The warrants issued are for a missing person and identity theft. Investigators are now requesting the Parsons’ bank account information."

Red stains, JonBenet magazines found in home of missing teen
"During that search, investigators logged information about 68 items that they removed from the house. That list includes a "plastic bag with JonBenet Ramsey magazines" and a "JonBenet book with notes inside about remodeling house." The warrant says there was drywall cut and removed from a closet area with red stains. The section was tested for blood, the warrant states. Investigators also took baseboards from the closet with red stains."
"During an interview with the Parsons, investigators were told that they took Erica to Asheville to live with her biological grandmother, Irene Goodman - aka Nan Goodman - in 2011. They told investigators that their biological daughter, Brook, went with them to Asheville. When she was interviewed, according to the warrants, Brook told investigators that she had not gone to Asheville with her parents to take Erica to live there.

Parsons ordered to appear in juvenile court
"Deputies delivered a civil juvenile summons to Casey and Sandy Parsons' house early Friday morning. The paperwork is sealed, but according to the Parsons' attorney Carlyle Sherrill, it's in reference to two children the Rowan County Department of Social Services removed from the Parsons' home August 1, after 15-year-old Erica Parsons was reported missing. One child removed from the home is a 7-year-old boy, and the other is an 8-year-old girl. Both are now being cared for by their grandmother. According to Sherrill, there will be a hearing to determine if those two children were abused or neglected."

NC Teen Missing Since November 2011 Not Reported Until July
"Patti Miller got an eyeful Wednesday morning as law enforcement officers began searching the house next door where missing teen Erica Parsons' adoptive parents live." - "Miller, who has lived at her home for 18 years, said the Parsons family moved into the neighborhood around April 2011. "This morning has been kind of like a movie. You expect to see things like this on TV, but not in your neighborhood or not next to you," she said."
"Miller said she saw investigators bring out papers and a couple of computers, but nothing "large" or of substance. She also said investigators tore apart a partially unfinished deck at the back of the house. She said officials searched a garage apartment at the back of the property where son James used to stay before he was asked to leave the home."

How Erica could disappear and no one noticed
"Relatives who found Erica’s absence odd never bothered to alert authorities. No favorite teacher intervened because Erica was home-schooled. No Facebook friend grew suspicious because Erica, at times reclusive, didn’t have an account."
"But according to search warrants in the case, the Parsons weren’t able to provide contact information for Goodman. An Observer search of public records found no Irene Goodman within 50 miles of Asheville. Erica’s biological mother says on her Facebook page that Erica “has no family in Asheville.”
"By age 2, she had been adopted into another side of her fractured family. A short time later she went to live with another relative after Casey, her new mom, told family members she “couldn’t stand to look” at the child, according to search warrants in the case. After eight months Erica was taken back by Casey and Sandy Parsons only because they were afraid of losing the state check they received each month for Erica, the warrants say. Those payments – which would be at least $634 a month for a child Erica’s age – are reserved for adoptive parents of special needs children."

Dr. Phil: And do you have those pictures?
Casey Parsons: No.
Dr. Phil: What happened to those pictures?
Casey Parsons: I do not know, they....
Dr. Phil: It would help if we had the pictures, we could get on a Google map try and match it up, find it, but you didn't save the pictures?

Dr. Phil: It doesn't matter whether they're home schooled, they're sitting in a classroom, you're still accountable to the school to turn in assignments, to give progress reports. Homeschooling is not just dropping out. Homeschooling is a curriculum, that is followed on a scheduled and it has to be proved up to the school if they were in fact home schooled. Were you the teacher?
Casey Parsons: Yes.
Dr. Phil: So when you stop turning in assignments after 12/17 did they ever call you?
Casey Parsons: We don't have to turn in assignments in North Carolina. They just have to do their end of the grade tests, ah, and that don't even have to be, you just have to keep them on records. You don't do that in North Carolina.

Casey and Sandy Parsons says their whole family LIES about them!

Editorial: Sandy and Casey Parsons -- accountable to no one?
"Relatives sounded some alarms. Casey’s sister reported several years ago that Erica was being abused, an accusation that child protection workers were not able to verify. Relatives said Erica went to live with the sister for several months, until Casey said she needed to take her back in case Social Services came looking."
"Casey says that’s lies, all lies. In fact, she and her husband said on “Dr. Phil” that their whole family tells lies about them. So a pattern of isolation and distrust emerges. The Parsonses had severed ties with their own family, making it harder for relatives to monitor Erica’s treatment or location."
"Erica was not missed by Social Services because, even though the family got a monthly assistance check for her care, the state only requires that a yearly notice be sent to the parents to determine the child’s status — without a visit from a social worker to verify the parents’ response."

Casey Parsons' father says he saw her abuse Erica
"Casey Parsons’ father says he witnessed his daughter beat missing teen Erica Parsons at least twice, and was about to report Erica missing himself. He said this on the same day Erica’s adoptive parents appeared in court to try to regain custody of two biological children DSS removed from the house right after Erica’s brother reported the girl as missing."
"Casey’s father tells NBC Charlotte he saw her pull Erica to the ground by her hair and says Casey hated Erica. He also says his 9-year-old granddaughter told him Casey hit her on the head with toys. He adds he hopes Casey does not regain custody of her kids."

Child-custody hearing for Erica Parsons’ family ends
"Casey and Sandy Parsons, Erica’s adoptive parents, were in court in connection with an allegation that a juvenile in their family has been abused or neglected. A Rowan County judge closed the hearing. “This is not just about Erica; this is about the other children who may not be in the media spotlight,” said Judge Beth Dixon in explaining her decision to close the hearing."
"When petitioning the judge, a Rowan County Department of Social Services official said since there is an ongoing criminal investigation into the matter, she said opening the courtroom could have compromised the investigation. The judge would not hear a request from the Observer to allow the hearing to be open to the public."
"William Parsons, Sandy Parsons’ father, said Thursday that he hopes that the Parsons’ children go back to live with Casey and Sandy. “I don’t know what they had in my shed. (Sandy) won’t talk to me about the case,” William Parsons said. “I hope the case is solved. But Sandy and Casey … are good folks. They’re good and they love their kids. “I want to stand by my boy.”

Parsons' kids to remain in DSS custody following court hearing
"Casey and Sandy Parsons did not get their children back after a Department of Social Services hearing, according to a source familiar with the case"
"WBTV's Coleen Harry spoke with the Parsons before their court appearance. They told her that they believe Erica is still alive but is afraid to call them. Casey Parsons responded to Coleen's questions about newly released warrants in the case from Wednesday that said teeth, a hammer and video footage was found in a barn on Sandy Parson's parents property. Casey said she saved all of her children's teeth as soon as they fell out and put them in individual envelopes for each child to keep for the tooth fairy. She said the barn that was searched by investigators at Sandy's parents home is one she hasn't been in for years. It was used to store records, she says. Casey said she didn't know anything about the red stains on the stairs and floor boards mentioned in earlier warrants. The JonBenet Ramsey magazines were from her sister, she says."
"The Parsons told Coleen that they have spoken with investigators and felt blindsided by Dr. Phil McGraw. They appeared on his show Tuesday and Wednesday. They say the shows producers told them they weren't going to scare Erica from calling but that's exactly what the Parsons say happened."

"The family is at odds over the past, including what happened to Erica. They are at odds over the future of the other two children, one of which just celebrated her ninth birthday apart from her parents. The two children are being cared for by their maternal grandmother, Shirley Stone, who told Channel 9 she didn't know what to expect. But her husband, James Irving Stone, told Channel 9 inside the courthouse, he hopes Sadie and Tobie stay with them, and he thinks Casey, who is his own daughter, is guilty of a crime."

Missing girl's disappearance driving wedge between family members
"There are those who believe the story that her adoptive parents Sandy and Casey Parsons told, that Erica was sent to stay with her maternal grandmother two years ago. And there are others, like Sandy's own brother, Scott Parsons, who are now openly questioning that explanation. FBI agents arrived at Scott's home in Harrisburg Thursday afternoon to question him about what he knows concerning Erica and her life with her adoptive parents.
"However, Sandy's own step mother has said that she thought Sandy might know more about what happened than he was saying. Scott Parsons said he planned to be at a vigil for Erica Friday night, outside the home on Miller Chapel Road where Erica lived. He wrote, "Thank you Rowan County community for stepping up for Erica...God bless and God be with Erica."

Nancy Grace: Missing Erica`s Parents Appear on Dr. Phil Show
STEPHANIE: Well, she faked a miscarriage at six weeks along. She would not turn over any doctor records to confirm the pregnancy. She was going to her clinic and I was here in another state with my clinic. And she would not fax in the paperwork. That showed that the pregnancy has been terminated. So I -- when I exhausted myself sending e-mails, she had changed her phone numbers so I couldn`t get through. She sent me just horrible, horrible e-mails how I -- that I would never see her doctor records and that I needed to get a life.
NANCY GRACE: Let`s go back through those e-mails. New York, could you put those back up, please? These are e-mails allegedly from Casey Parson`s to Stephanie.

"My doctor records has nothing to do with your baby. They are my medical records. My OB/GYN told me there was nothing that would benefit you from them. I don`t understand why these are so important to you. I`m sorry, but I`m seeking to close this. I`m in the process of talking with a local couple and need to focus all my attention on an upcoming cycle. I am sorry about all that has happened."

STEPHANIE: Absolutely she did.
STEPHANIE: The truth was she was carrying my child and she was planning on --
NANCY GRACE: Planning on what?
STEPHANIE: Telling him. Telling him.
NANCY GRACE: How do you know this? How do you know this to be true?
STEPHANIE: OK. I know it to be true because she had mentioned an adoption lawyer down there several times while she was at my house. And she told me that he was able to change the birth certificate on anybody`s birth certificate. And put an adoption through.
NANCY GRACE: So you need that --
STEPHANIE: When I called him -- when I found out that she was pregnant, not until March 17th, I happened to call him. And I said, there is a lady out there carrying our child. And I want you to know, if she makes a phone call to you, that baby is ours. And we are in the process of retrieving him right now. And she called me back, and told me that she had left two messages to make contact with him.

NANCY GRACE: So she was going to make the money you gave her. How much were you paying her?
STEPHANIE: Well, actually, in Michigan, you can`t really pay for a surrogacy. You can`t pay somebody to carry a baby. But what we could do, we could pay medical expenses, we could pay for her -- you know, the things that would -- you know, what would pertain to this pregnancy. Now what she wanted, OK, in the beginning, she wanted all of her funds to go directly to her church. They were building on a new wing. So we were just going to donate to her church on her behalf.
NANCY GRACE: And what happened with that?
STEPHANIE: Well, the sixth month, she went back and she was pregnant. And she called me and said, "Oh, my washer and dryer broke down, I need you to send me the first thousand to my house. After that, we`ll start with the church."

Carolyn: "No mother wants to have children and just give them up. I didn't want to. But that bond quickly ended after Parsons told us Casey and Sandy kept her away from Erica after that January 2011 meeting. Sandy Parsons: 'Only thing I want right now is Erica to call home'
"In an exclusive talk with WBTV's David Whisenant, Erica's adoptive father, Sandy Parson, talked about a number of topics including his thoughts on Erica, death threats he and his wife have received, and a tattoo he says few people know about."
"Parsons also addressed several of the items taken by investigators in the last few weeks. He explained that the two knives in cling wrap taken from his home during a search earlier this month were his tools of the trade. Parsons worked for years as a butcher at Food Lion in Spencer and says it would not be unusual for a butcher to have wrapped knives. Investigators also seized teeth from the Parsons home and from a work shed on property owned by the Parsons family. "I had my baby boxes in there and they were tearing them apart, we saved the teeth for the tooth fairy," Parsons said."
"Parsons also showed a tattoo on his bicep that he says few people knew that he had. It's barbed wire with the initials of each child. "My kids initials are tattooed on my arm in barb wire," Parsons added. "I got Erica dead center. I raised her and she wanted to go live with grandmother and that was fine. And now she don't want to come home, don't want to call." Parsons also hinted that "the whole story" about Erica's disappearance would eventually come out."

Erica’s mom: Adoptive parents not forthcoming
"The last time Carolyn Parsons saw Erica, the daughter she gave up for adoption, was in January 2011, at the Whataburger on Main Street in Mooresville. Erica, who spoke little that day, wore a cast and a splint. Her adoptive parents, Casey and Sandy Parsons, had told her Erica had fallen out of a tree while playing. Carolyn Parsons didn’t think much of the injuries until her daughter disappeared."
"Casey and Sandy Parsons had arranged the meeting, saying they wanted Erica to know her biological mother. And Casey Parsons was having medical issues. Over burgers, Erica’s adoptive parents said they might have to give Erica back, Carolyn Parsons recalled."
"As an adult, Carolyn Parsons married into the Parsons family. For a time, she was the wife of Steven Parsons, Sandy Parsons’ brother. But Carolyn and Steven separated – and Carolyn got pregnant with Erica by another man. Erica is her fourth and youngest child. Erica’s father claimed she wasn’t his child, Carolyn Parsons said. Alone and struggling financially, Carolyn Parsons said she believed her in-laws could give her daughter a better future."
"She had started bonding with Casey and Sandy,” Carolyn Parsons said of Erica. “You know how little kids are. They coo and caw. They recognize a voice. I didn’t want to pull her out of a safe home.” The adoption was finalized on July 20, 2000, when Erica was 2. Carolyn Parsons said she received updates from Casey Parsons through Facebook and believed her daughter was doing well."

Erica Parsons' biological mother explains why she gave daughter up
"Biological mother Carolyn Parsons spoke with Eyewitness News about why Erica was raised by a former brother-in-law and his wife. "I had no steady home," Parsons said. "I had no job." She said she felt like their home was safe and even now she said she still would have given Erica Parsons away. She saw the girl for the first time since the adoption in January 2011, less than a year before she disappeared."
"Eyewitness News asked Carolyn Parsons if it's at all possible that somebody tricked the couple, if that would be farfetched. "Nothing is farfetched," Carolyn Parsons said. "You see it every day. There are kids that are kidnapped in this manner every day." She said not checking in on Erica Parsons, seeing where she was staying, is inexcusable. "If I knew in January, what I've heard now, I would have been at Rowan County Courthouse fighting for my kid back," Carolyn Parsons said.
