Inquest Juror: "I don't think Drew had anything to do with Kathleen's death or Stacy's disappearance. I think Stacy is a kid who ran away." |
ILL | 11/08/2007 Mike Puccinelli (cbs2chicago.com) Reporting (VIDEO): "Coroner reviews study of Cop's 3rd Wife's Death" "If the coroner's jury says it's an accident and the pathologist who performed the autopsy says it's not an accident, the State's Attorney has every right to forget and disregard what the coroner's jury has to say" [said CBS 2's legal expert Irv Miller.] PUCCINELLI: "Now the States Attorney in office at the time [2004] chose not to file charges. I spoke with two jury members this evening and neither one wanted to go on camera, but one told me, quote, "I don't think Drew had anything to do with Kathleen's death or Stacy's disappearance. I think Stacy is a kid who ran away." end quote. Drew Peterson has not been declared a suspect in the disappearance of Stacy Peterson or in the death of Kathleen Savio." |

Sue Doman: "When I had first gotten the call that she was dead, my first reaction was, Did he kill her?" |
ILL | SUE DOMAN, KATHLEEN SAVIO'S SISTER: I always thought that there was something wrong. Something was wrong. When I had first gotten the call that she was dead, my first reaction was, Did he kill her? - GRETA VAN SUSTEREN (HOST): I'm going to read for you the transcript that we've obtained, that Mark Fuhrman and Corey obtained for us from the coroner, at page six. And this is where you're quoted as saying, when you were asked a question about, "Is there anything else you'd like to add, ma'am?" And you respond, "Yes, I just — it's very difficult for my family because of my sister telling us all the time — and I can figure everyone, everything — one, that she has seen that if she would die, it may look like an accident, but it wasn't. She just told me last week, and she was just terrified of him. He always threatened her. He had her in the basement one time. He did many, many things to her. He wished only for her to go away." |

"We did decide that it was an accident due to the fact that we were laypeople and were not medical examiners" | ILL | WALTER LEE JAMES, JUROR AT SAVIO CORONER'S INQUEST: We were given evidence and photographs by the coroner at the time, and we were asked to review them and come to a conclusion as to the cause of death." - "We heard from a couple of the relatives. They came in prior to our reviewing the evidence. But they left the room, and then we were left to review the evidence at hand." - "we were only told to review the evidence at hand, and when we were through reviewing the evidence, come to a conclusion and then call the coroner in and tell him that we reached a conclusion." - "in reviewing the evidence at hand, we did decide that it was an accident due to the fact that we were laypeople and were not medical examiners or anything like that. So with the evidence that we had, we determined it wasn't natural, of course, and we — also being laypeople, we could not decide whether it was a homicide" |

One panel member was a policeman who either knew Peterson personally or knew of him. |
ILL | WALTER LEE JAMES, JUROR AT SAVIO CORONER'S INQUEST: "at the time, we were given three options to either come to a decision as to whether it was natural, homicide or accidental. We did not have at the time the option of determining "undetermined" status." - "there was a police officer on the panel, and he indicated at the time he knew or knew of Peterson. And he indicated to the panel that he thought that Peterson was a good policeman. He was charitable and helped his neighbors, and so on and so forth. So I think that — I think that might have influenced some of the panel members, but I don't know that for sure." - "I was kind of apprehensive with one photograph showing her face down in an empty tub. And there was a lot of blood remaining in the tub, and I just — I didn't — myself did not consider — it was inconsistent with drowning. I feel that the blood that was in the tub should have probably dissipated into the water and drained out with the water. But like I said, I'm not an expert forensic person, so as a layperson, that's just how I felt." |

2007-12-12 | Greta: On The Record December 12, 2007 re: Stacy was Drew's alibi when Kathleen died BUT Stacy told Pastor Neil Schori that Drew wasn't there and she kept trying to call him on the phone. |
Fuhrman: Regarding Savio death "There was not one search warrant written" |
ILL | MARK FUHRMAN, FORMER LAPD HOMICIDE DETECTIVE: "Well, what's interesting — I have a source that actually told me that when Stacy actually confided in the pastor, she made a statement that she woke up in the middle of the night, she could not find Drew. And this was the night before Kathleen is found in the bathtub. And she can't find him in the house, and she starts calling incessantly, numerous times, to try to get a hold of him. He never answers. Now, that day that they actually talk to Stacy and Drew and the neighbors, when they find Kathleen, they get information that is an alibi, and that alibi is something that Stacy provides for Drew." 2007-12-12 | Greta: On The Record December 12, 2007 Mark Fuhrman: "I checked with them. There was no search warrants served in the name of Kathy Savio, Drew Peterson or Stacy Peterson in the year 2004." |
Fuhrman: "They supposedly told the coroner's inquest jury that they had phone records" |
ILL | MARK FUHRMAN, FORMER LAPD HOMICIDE DETECTIVE: "Now, the Illinois State Police agents that are [were ?] working on this, the detectives, they supposedly told the coroner's inquest jury that they had phone records, but they were not — they had not yet received them as of May 1 [2004]. And of course, we know Kathleen Savio died March 1 [2004]. And in that — in those documents — in that testimony and in those documents, it states that, Well, we don't believe that those phone records will give us any other outcome. Well, I started doing some research. Well, first, we know Drew Peterson and Stacy had Nextel. They keep those records for five years, luckily. But I cannot find anything at the county courthouse. I checked with them. There was no search warrants served in the name of Kathy Savio, Drew Peterson or Stacy Peterson in the year 2004." |
2007-12-12 | Greta: On The Record December 12, 2007 Police witness said: "So yes, we've got phone records coming from her phone, his phone, Steve's phone and the rest of it. So yes, we still have to verify that." |
Hardy testified in the 2004 inquest that they were waiting for phone records but no records were ordered | ILL | GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, HOST: "And I should tell the viewers that after you called me with this — and frankly, I missed it, and I thought it was extraordinary - - good work, Mark — but we went back and looked at the transcript from the coroner's jury, the one from May 1. And just so that the viewers know, is that the Illinois State Police, Herbert Hardy, was testifying, and he says, in part, "The only thing we're waiting for now is some phone records, to find out if certain phone calls were made when they said they were made." - "There's another part where even a coroner's juror member said to the witness, to the Illinois State Police witness, "Are they verifying the phone records, correct, that the calls were made?" The witness, "Yes, those take quite a while to get. So yes, we've got phone records coming from her phone, his phone, Steve's phone and the rest of it. So yes, we still have to verify that." |

Greta's followup on Pastor Schori was that Peterson told Stacy the "very night" he killed Kathleen | ILL | MARK FUHRMAN, FORMER LAPD HOMICIDE DETECTIVE: Greta I'll start at the beginning. We have to take ourselves back to February 29, 2004, that Sunday night into the early morning hours of March 1st, that was a Monday. Now Kathleen Savio was found Monday night at 11:17 p.m. almost midnight. Just prior to that we heard on Monday [12/10/2007], we heard Pastor Schori tell you that Stacy actually confided in him that Drew Peterson had actually confessed that he killed Kathleen and of course you followed up then and he said Stacy told him that very night [Sunday 02/29/2004 - Monday 03/01/2004]. Now I've got sources that later in the week we found out she woke up in the middle of the night and there were numerous times she tried to find Drew in the house and she couldn't find him. She yelled out for him, she called him on the cell phone numerous times, described in almost excessively, he never answered. Where was Drew?" |

Stacy found him in basement dressed in black putting his clothes in washer. He also had bag of woman's cothing. | ILL | MARK FUHRMAN, FORMER LAPD HOMICIDE DETECTIVE: "I believe it's absolutely corroborated that Stacy told Pastor Schori that day [August 2007] that in that time when she finally found Drew in the house [03/01/2004], she heard him, he was downstairs by the washing machine, she saw him, he was standing there in all black, stripping down and putting his clothes into the washing machine. He also had a bag in his hand that he emptied that was woman's clothes and he looks at her and he starts telling her, explaining to her in several hours the police are going to be here and they are going to ask a lot of questions and I'm going to tell you what to say. It will be a perfect crime." - "We know several things about her [Kathleen], she didn't wear jewelry in the bathtub, she didn't wear it in the shower and she didn't wear it swimming because she felt she had a reaction on her skin when it was wet. She didn't have her hair down. |

"The jury also did not hear that Savio in 2002 asked for a restraining order against Peterson" |
Savio inquest juror Jim Pretto speaks out in an exclusive interview with ABC News | ILL | 02/28/2008 (abcnews.go.com) "Peterson's Children to Testify at Grand Jury" "Now, in an exclusive interview with ABC News Senior Law & Justice correspondent Jim Avila, a juror on the coroner's inquest that initially determined Savio's death was an accident says he wishes he had listened to her family. "If we would have come back with murder instead, maybe Stacey Peterson would still be here today," Jim Pretto told ABC News. "There is a little bit of guilt that because of that, maybe somebody else was murdered because of that. That maybe could have been stopped." "A state police officer testified at the inquest that there was no evidence that Savio had been murdered. Pretto faulted investigators for failing to present enough evidence at the inquest and said that if he had known all the facts about the case in 2004, he would have called Savio's death a homicide. "There was no evidence at all to point toward it being a murder," Pretto said. "There was nothing presented at all." "Though a police officer at the inquest said police had received domestic disturbance calls from Savio, the jurors did not hear that police were called to Savio and Peterson's house 18 times. Peterson was never arrested. The jury also did not hear that Savio in 2002 asked for a restraining order against Peterson. The papers read, "he has restrained me, held me down, knocked me into walls & left marks on my body all the time." A police officer who testified at the inquiry did not go to the scene of Savio's death or attend her autopsy. He testified that he was not aware of any insurance policies on Savio, though she did have life insurance." - "Pretto said that though the jurors on the coroner's inquest were suspicious, they did not have enough evidence to call Savio's death anything but an accident. "We had no other alternative," he said. "I think more evidence should have been presented, more investigation should have been done at the time." |
