The "LuckyLady" Story
Died: April 9, 1999

What Happens when you die
And you're the member of an Internet Forum?
The Internet hat known as "Lucky Lady" aka "Gator" is not the first poster to die while posting on an Internet forum. And the husband of "Lucky Lady" is not the first one to stop everything after a major tragedy and take time to post on an Internet forum to let the other posters know what is going on.

But when the husband of "Lucky Lady" posted a message of her passing on the Webbsleuth's Community Forum, the other posters were skeptical. Why didn't they believe "Lucky Lady" had died? Some were insensitive, other's posted their sympathy even though obviously skeptical and many posters said nothing. The thread titled, "She Is Gone," was obviously moved quickly from the main JonBenet forum to the Jury room. Did nobody know who "Lucky Lady" was? And why did those who were informed of the death think this was just another hoax? Was it a hoax or did "Lucky Lady" really die?

On Saturday, April 10, 1999 at 21:14:58 (9:14pm), a posting appeared on the WebbSleuth's main JBR Forum titled, "She is Gone." The thread was posted by a hat name of "Lucky Lady" but the context of the thread was written to be from her husband who was informing the forum that his wife had died. According to the husband, "Lucky Lady" died on Friday, April 9th. This is the posting from "Lucky Ladys" husband:

I regret to inform the JonBenet Ramsey web sight of the following news.

Lucky Lady is not so lucky in this lifetime.

My wife has passed on to be with her GOD!

She will no longer be logging on to this sight to talk with you all.

I am greatful that she had so many friends here to discuss this case with. If I had to listen to her all the time, I don't know if I'd have paid attention. Unfortunately, it is too late!

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

Please continue to pray for our family in this time of mourning.

Lucky Lady asked me to tell you all that she had some of her best times discussing this case with so many people, with so many opinions.

She also asked me to tell "Murphy" and "Jameson" to expect some kind of contact from me from HEAVEN!

I have no idea what she meant. I guess maybe you both know.

She also said to say thank you to "Texas 1" for the wonderful prayer threads.

And also to "Mantis G" ? for your dedication to the Boy Scout info. She really appreciated knowing that she offered some info that may lead in the right direction.

And to everyone else who appreciated my "Lady's" posts, so long forever.

I am not one to visit this forum and I am sorry for having to bring you all this sad news.

Please do not try to contact me. Me and my children are not ready for any more trauma at this time.

Thank you all for your understanding!

Sincerely,
Gator
(she stole that nickname from me when she first joined your sight. Now I can reclaim it.)

Why did the poster think it was a hoax?
Did "Lucky Lady" register twice at WebbSleuths or change her hat twice, first to "Gator" then to "Lucky Lady" and then back to "Gator?" The response was suspicion that this was a hoax.

But none the less, the poster hat under the name of "Texas 1" posted two messages asking herself if this was a hoax. Following that posting was the now deceased "Lucky Lady's" husband again posting a message that he is shocked that he felt that "Texas 1" had a lot a nerve to even suggest that the death was a hoax. Those three posting are shown below:

Is this another hoax? I think so....Damn, I really thought Lucky Lady was real...but who IS posting now? Too late tonight to check it all out..IF I am wrong, another prayer for LL...and her family. IF I am right, CHIT!

3. "Is Penny back?"

of all the nerve! You may believe what you will, but please let my family greive in peace!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are very hurt by your response, especialy since you had started the prayer threads. My wife would be very dissapointed in the way you responded to her passing!

PLEASE LEAVE US TO OUR GREIVING! AT THIS TIME THIS IS WHAT WE NEED! GIVE US A BREAK.

HOW INSENSITIVE!!!!!!!!!
Good-bye----
Gator and children.

but Lucky Lady will no longer be with you all. I wrote Friday night to everyone on the JonBenet forum that my wife has passed on. She died on Friday 4-9-99. Someone must have deleted the post, because I went back to read what people had to say, and Texas 1 thought it was a hoax. It is not!

I will be checking in to this sight one more time, this evening 4-12-99 to read any messages for me and my family. After that, I will not be back. My wife really loved this sight and everyone here. Take care of yourselves and I hope this case is solved soon.

Sincerely,
Gator( Lucky Lady's husband. She stole that from me.)

A Poem for LuckyLady
Just in case she really did died
A Friend

A friend is like a flower
a rose to be exact,
Or maybe like a brand new gate
that never comes unlatched
A friend is like an owl,
both beautiful and wise
Or perhaps a friend is like a ghost,
whose spirit never dies.
A friend is like those blades of grass
you can never mow,
standing straight, tall, and proud
in a perfect little row
A friend is like a heart that goes
strong until the end.
Where would we be in this world
if we didn't have a friend.
