For seven months (November 2007 to June 2008) both Lenny Wawczak and his wife, Paula Stark secretly recorded their former friend, Drew Peterson in a quest to help the Illinois State Police in their investigation in the disappearance of Stacy Peterson and the murder of Kathleen Savio. From March 2008 through May 2008 Lenny Wawczak secretly pretended to be a woman named "real_ashley" on the Internet in a secret love relationship with Drew Peterson while Lenny's wife Paula secretly pretended to be yet another online love interest for Peterson named "katie elstro." At the same time Drew Peterson was hitting on Paula at his house and wanted her to run off to Lexington, Kentucky with him and when she said Lenny would never let her leave, Peterson said, "Don't make me shoot him." |

Drew Peterson's Firearms FOID Card Revoked PETERSON: "I knew that was coming," "Just another pain in the [rear]." |
ILL | 02/27/2008 (chicagotribune.com) "Drew Peterson's gun card revoked" "State police revoked Drew Peterson's firearm permit Wednesday, just hours after a Will County judge ordered officials to return guns and other items to the former Bolingbrook police sergeant. State's Atty. James Glasgow sent a written request Tuesday to Larry Trent, state police director, for the revocation of Peterson's Firearm Owner's Identification card, officials said. By Wednesday evening, the state's attorney's office confirmed the card had been revoked. The move put a damper on an otherwise victorious day for Peterson. "I knew that was coming," Peterson said from New York City, where he was scheduled to appear Thursday on the "Today" show. "Just another pain in the [rear]." "Schoenstedt said he would decide on March 17 whether the two sides have issues to iron out and to admonish Peterson in person as to his responsibility. If both sides are in agreement, the property would be returned by March 28. State's attorney's office spokesman Charles Pelkie, who called the judge's order reasonable, would not elaborate on reasons used to revoke Peterson's FOID card." |

And it is his pistol," Mims said. "It's the same one that he pulled out when I was staying at his house. They'd already seized his other guns." "Mims said Wednesday [03/19/2008] that police also showed him a .357-caliber pistol and asked whether he could identify it as Peterson's. Mims said that he couldn't say for sure." |

ILL | 03/21/2008 (cbs2chicago.com) "Police Confiscated 12th Gun From Drew Peterson" "Police confiscated a dozen guns from former Bolingbrook police sergeant Drew Peterson, but say Peterson kept one hidden from investigators in the course of the search for his wife, Stacy Peterson. CBS 2 West Suburban Bureau Chief Mike Puccinelli reports the gun is so small it can be concealed in a belt buckle. And a source close to the Stacy Petersen investigation says Drew Petersen concealed a mini-revolver so well in his house that Illinois state police officers never found it, despite the fact that search warrants were executed netting 11 other firearms. The source says the gun, a Derringer, is now in possession of the Illinois State Police." "Peterson's lawyer says his client never stashed a 12th gun. "After the searches did Drew have a gun in his possession? The answer to that is no," said attorney Joel Brodsky. But Peterson's former friend Rick Mims has said that Peterson showed him the weapon after the initial warrants boasting about how authorities missed the gun. Mims was called in by police recently to identify the gun after it was secured by police. Brodsky says Mims is a liar out to make a buck for himself. "That's just Rick Mims probably trying to shop another story to the National Enquirer," he said." "Sources wouldn't reveal who gave them the 4 by 2-1/2 inch gun. Brodsky says he doesn't know either. "It wasn't in his house when they searched it. If they got it, it was in somebody else's possession," he said. |

Newsworthy? Hmm, maybe because the "honorable retired career cop" LIED to the Illinois State Police? |
ILL | 03/22/2008 (www.crimefilenews.com) "Drew Peterson’s Secret Gun!" Posted by Crimefile at 3/22/2008 02:42:00 PM "So a guy convicted of nothing who may be a suspect may have had a gun police missed while serving a search warrant. Peterson’s former friend made that “shocking” claim recently. Peterson, an honorably retired career cop is under the media and law enforcement microscope because his young wife is missing. There is no probable cause that Peterson has done anything wrong. No evidence of any crime connected to peterson has been uncovered. The so-called Secret Gun is a tiny and ineffective,.22, offering from North American Arms. . It’s a single action novelty item that’s a lot less deadly than a good knife. Why was this silliness newsworthy?" |

ILL | 03/24/2008 (chicagoTribune) "Drew Peterson must wait longer to learn fate of his 11 guns" "Drew Peterson will have to wait a few more weeks to learn whether his guns will be returned, due to postponement until April of a hearing that had been set for Tuesday." - "Attorney Joel Brodsky suggested that Schoenstedt place the guns in the possession of Peterson's son, Stephen, an Oak Brook police officer, while the card revocation is appealed. Schoenstedt was expected to decide the matter Tuesday, but both parties agreed Monday to postpone the hearing to April 17" "In my opinion, I believe it has to do with the 12th gun," Brodsky said, referring to a folding handgun that police recently asked Peterson's former friend, Ric Mims, to identify. "We've explained our position with that gun. It has not been in his possession for months." Brodsky said the gun was recently recovered by state police from a person who had gotten it from Peterson. "How the police got it from [the other person] is a mystery to me," Brodsky said. "But it's not like we were hiding the gun." |

"Peterson initially said he had nothing to do with the signed eBay cap, but later remembered inking a cap for a friend named Paula who babysat his kids when he traveled to New York to appear on the "Today" show. ILL | 05/16/2008 (Nancy Grace Show) "Drew Peterson Has New 22-Year-Old Girlfriend" NANCY GRACE, HOST: And on another scary note -- out to Andy Kahan, director of crime victims` assistance division there in the Houston mayor`s office. Andy, I guess you`ve heard about the items on eBay regarding Drew Peterson. Everybody, I hope you`re sitting down with not only your seatbelt on but your crash helmet, too. Go ahead, Andy. - ANDY KAHAN, CRIME VICTIMS` ASSISTANCE DIV., HOUSTON MAYOR`S OFFICE: Yes, American capitalism has now stooped to the newest low level. I mean, here you`ve got someone who`s offering from someone who`s obviously a suspect in the disappearance, and most people would sigh the murder, of his fourth wife, the circumstances involving his third wife. Peterson himself is now saying he`ll sign autographs for $20. This is about as low as you can get as far as capitalism goes. And unfortunately, you`re probably going to have some sleazebag out there that`s going to go ahead and try to buy it, hoping that Peterson gets charged and convicted under some delusion that they`re going to profit from this as some investment. Unfortunately, though, the seller is breaking no laws in this country, but they are, from my perspective, breaking the law of bad taste." - NANCY GRACE, HOST: And what can you tell me about the price tag on the item? - ANDY KAHAN: It`s $1,000. And Nancy, there`s already somebody bidding for this, and that`s the scary part right here. And I am going to be contacting eBay and asking them to look into whether this does violate their policy because Peterson is a suspect in the disappearance and presumed murder of his wife, as well as his third wife. So there`s got to be some code of ethics that eBay might be able to look into, remove this product, and send the message out that the beginning of the merchandising and marketing of Drew Peterson is going to end here." |

The cap originally went on the auction block May 14 but was taken down several days later. At the time, one person had bid the minimum $1,000. A description of the cap says it came from Peterson's appearance on the "Today Show" earlier this year to discuss the Oct. 28 disappearance of his fourth wife Stacy and the March 2004 drowning of his third wife Kathleen Savio." - "Peterson has said he signed the cap for a friend who later gave it to her mother, who apparently is behind the auction. The listed seller goes by "arkhyn" and is the same eBay member who put the cap up for sale originally. The seller did not immediately respond to an e-mail seeking comment Monday night. The latest auction went live on Friday, again with a starting bid of $1,000. As of Monday night, no one had placed a bid. |

Peterson's attorney, Joel Brodsky, has denied there was such a gun. Brodsky mocked Ric Mims, a former friend of Peterson's, in March on CNN's "Nancy Grace" show after Mims said that Peterson showed him the gun, saying, "Hey [the police] didn't find this one." Mims said Peterson was "chuckling" when he showed him the gun. On the show, Brodsky called the claim "simply another fabrication of slick Ric Mims." "But other friends of Peterson, Len Wawczak and his wife, Paula Stark, of Bolingbrook, say that Peterson signed the folding gun -- a North American Arms .22-caliber revolver -- over to Paula Stark the day after the State Police pulled Peterson's firearm owner's identification card in February." "It was the same gun Ric Mims identified," Stark said. Stark has a handwritten contract for the "Transpher [sic] of 1 North American Arms Corp. S.S. .22 cal revolver" from Drew Peterson to Paula Stark dated Feb. 28, right after he returned from New York City, where he appeared on the "Today" show. Stark and Wawczak watched Peterson's children while he was in New York. Wawczak said Peterson wrote out the transfer for Stark while sitting at the desk in his home office." "Stark and Wawczak say they took the gun home but lost it less than a month later when state cops stopped by their Meadowbrook Drive home to seize Stark's Ruger after her FOID was suspended for listing an inaccurate date of birth and an outdated address. The police also found a .22, which folds into its own handle, and pegged it as Peterson's, Wawczak said. Peterson said he's done nothing wrong, as he simply "signed (the gun) over to them after they took my gun card away." "Brodsky said he was under the impression Peterson transferred a "derringer" "some time" before losing his FOID card. "He never had a gun after they took away his FOID card," Brodsky said, while insisting Peterson never possessed the "folding gun" Mims spoke of. "Wawczak recalled Peterson telling them, “‘I should have had that bitch cremated. It would have cost me less and I wouldn’t be going through this trouble.’" |
ILL | 07/23/2008 (www.suntimes.com) "Drew's pals wore wire" "Drew Peterson likes to talk an awful lot — especially for a guy whose third wife was murdered and fourth wife is missing. And now two of his closest friends say they caught it all, cooperating with State Police by wearing a wire and recording seven months of intimate conversations with the former Bolingbrook cop." "Peterson mocked investigators as “idiots,” called his third wife “a bitch” whose body he should have had cremated and predicted he’d be tried and acquitted long before his fourth wife’s remains were found, Wawczak said. As the investigation escalated, Peterson took to spending more and more evenings at Wawczak and Stark’s Bolingbrook home, the couple said. He would sneak out his back door, crawl through the yard and jump into their waiting van. “He didn’t know if they were coming for him, and he thought this would be a good place to hide,” Wawczak said." "Wawczak said he had his own uncomfortable moments. He said he balked when Peterson asked him to prove his loyalty by torching a bunch of plants a neighbor assembled in memory of Stacy and sabotage a boat that was being used in searches. What was Peterson’s motivation? “‘It would just be funny,’” Wawczak said Peterson told him." "Wawczak said his own father was slain during a holdup of his gas station in 1975, when Len was 9. The killer was found thanks to a woman who reported the license number of the getaway car. Wawczak said that’s partly why he agreed to help police investigating Savio’s murder and Stacy Peterson’s disappearance. “Look what that lady did for my dad,” Wawczak said. “Had she not, that guy would have got away. Plus, it’s the right thing to do.” "Peterson was nonplussed when he learned his friends were spying on him for the police. He said he felt no sense of betrayal, suggesting the couple had other motives." |

She wore the vest and a and a listening device when she went flying with Drew Peterson. She and husband Len Wawczak (seated) wore a recording device for several months when they were in the presence of Peterson. (Rich Hein/Chicago Sun-Times)" "Wawczak, 42, said he and his wife, Paula Stark, 38, have known Peterson for about 16 years, a friendship that began over drinks at a Bolingbrook watering hole, included talk of going into business together flipping homes and became so close that Peterson trusted the couple to watch his children. But a few weeks after Stacy Peterson disappeared last year, the couple began to have suspicions about their longtime friend. And the state police asked them to wear a wire and work as informants. Partly because of a tragedy in his own past, Wawczak said he had no reservations, but his wife was afraid." "I talked her into it," Wawczak said. "I wasn't worried about my safety at all," he said. "I was worried about Paula and the kids." "In mid-November, the state police met with Wawczak and eventually began talking about enlisting his help, asking him to take a polygraph in the process, Wawczak said. Stark, who has two sons and a daughter with Wawczak, said she remained nervous throughout their clandestine work, which ceased in mid-June. The worst day was probably when Peterson took her up in his ultralight airplane in early spring for its first flight since Stacy Peterson vanished. A GPS device was hidden inside the thermal vest she wore so police could track where he flew, Stark said. "I swear to God, I don't think I was more scared," she said." |

Later Wednesday, as Peterson left his house, he was flip with a CBS 2 reporter who asked him if he had anything to say about the latest developments in the case. His response? "You're hot." "Wawczak said Peterson asked him to set fire to a memorial for Stacy Peterson a neighbor had put together, and vandalize a boat being used to search for her, the Sun-Times reported. Now Peterson could end up being burned if recorded statements like that exist and are played in court." "Stark's neighbor, Linda Miller, said she was shocked to find out Stark knew Drew Peterson. But she said she doesn't doubt Stark's claims. "Someone needed to step in and do something, and I'm glad it was them," Miller said, "and I hope the information that they got will convict Drew Peterson." |

Lenny Wawczak Is The Real Ashley "He said he wanted to take a bite out of my cute little ass." |
ILL | 07/24/2008 (cbs2chicago.com) "Ex-Friend: I Posed As Woman To Snag Drew Peterson" "Len Wawczak did more than just talk with his former friend Drew Peterson using a wire. CBS 2's Mike Puccinelli talked with Wawczak overnight about Peterson professing his love online to what he thought was another woman. When Wawczak wasn't wearing a wire to tape his former friend Drew Peterson for the police, he was often on his computer setting a different kind of trap. It involved lust and a made-up girl named Ashley." "He became real fond of Ashley, and Ashley would be me," he said. "I am the real Ashley. I'm the one who did the blog. I'm the one who romanced Drew. I'm the one that typed to him in that pink font, and I'm the one that said that he said he wanted to take a bite out of my cute little a**. It was me." Wawczak says as "Ashley," he and Peterson had an online relationship for more than two months. "I started talking to him in March," Wawczak said. "I don't know, according to Drew, in his own words, he fell in love with me within the first day." "When Drew Peterson went on CNN's "Larry King Live" in April, Wawczak says he told Ashley he would show his love for her on the air. "He said every time he pulled on his ear, that meant he loved me," Wawczak said. "He tugged on his ear three different instances." "Wawczak had maintained blog entitled "Justice Soon for Kathleen and Stacy," and in the most recent entry, said he was "Ashley." He signed the post, " "Happy Birthday Joel - Love Ashley/Lenny - Hugs & Kisses :-)," referring to Peterson's attorney, Joel Brodsky." |

"Her [Paula's] mother did put the cap on eBay, Stark said, but the plan was to donate the money to the volunteer search effort to find Stacy. They never got the chance, as the Web site shut down the auction." | ILL | 07/24/2008 (www.suntimes.com) "Drew's wired pals lie low" "Paula Stark stood on a neighbor's stoop Wednesday and smoked a cigarette as she watched photographers and reporters staking out her home down the street. She and her husband, Len Wawczak, were the next big thing in the Drew Peterson story, and she was feeling overwhelmed. "I'm exhausted," Stark said." "Her cell phone rang repeatedly with calls from television news producers. She hadn't found time to eat since Tuesday morning. Wawczak was elsewhere -- possibly fishing with a friend -- to avoid the media throng outside their home. The couple were under siege because they went public about wearing a wire for the State Police to record their former friend, ex-cop Peterson, whose fourth wife has been missing since October and whose third wife was the victim of a March 2004 homicide that remains unsolved." "As far as Peterson is concerned, Stark and Wawczak are just bitter because he refused to lend them a large sum of money about a month ago. It was the last time he saw the husband and wife who regularly watched his two young children after Stacy disappeared. Stark and Wawczak are just looking to cash in on his misery and were sniffing around for money long before this, Peterson said Wednesday. For example, Peterson said, after he returned from New York for an appearance on the "Today" show, he autographed a baseball cap for the couple. Stark's mother put it up for sale on eBay with a starting price of $10,000. "And on top of that, I caught Paula in my bedroom taking pictures," Peterson said. "So I have more friends taking advantage of my anguish." |

ILL | 07/24/2008 (www.suntimes.com) "Drew's wired pals lie low" "Inside her neighbor's home, Paula holed up in the basement and watched Peterson's attorney Joel Brodsky on television. Brodsky essentially called Stark and Wawczak liars who were looking to make a buck. Stark and her neighbor were not that interested in what Brodsky had to say and later changed the channel to the sitcom "Home Improvement." For all the attention, Stark said she and her husband weren't making any money. "They'll fly me out there [to New York] for interviews," she said. "But that's it." "In a statement released by Peterson's publicist, Brodsky said Stark and Wawczak broke the law if their claims about wearing a wire were true." "If Drew had made any incriminating statement to Wawczak and Stark when they were supposedly undercover agents, today's news would include their arrest for obstruction of justice," Brodsky said. "The police would never allow the disclosure of any such information in an ongoing investigation. The fact is that Drew never made any of the statements Wawczak and Stark attribute to him, period. Secondly, the reason Wawczak and Stark [are] talking now can be attributed to the fact that they are about to be evicted from their home, and they are in a dire economic situation." "Stark said she spoke to State Police on Wednesday morning, and the investigators laughed at what Brodsky and Peterson had to say. Peterson also called Wawczak's character into question, saying his old friend often ran afoul of the law. "I used to arrest Lenny on a regular basis for drunk and disorderly s - - -," he said. Wawczak has been arrested over the years by Bolingbrook police. Stark wasn't surprised by Peterson's comments, saying he has smeared others. "It's the same with everyone who goes against him," she said. "They're all losing their house, they all need money." |

ILL | 07/25/2008 "Peterson amused by former friend’s online impersonation of female" "Drew Peterson said Thursday he was impressed by his former friend Len Wawczak’s online impersonation of a woman for two months and called the stunt ‘comical.’ - “I was very taken,” Peterson said. “I’ve been playing practical jokes for most of my life and for someone to get me like that, I’m impressed." "Ashley’s last name, Gabrys, was really the name of someone he used to know. He picked Granite City as Ashley’s hometown because he knows someone who lives there who could provide local information if needed. “I had everything covered,” Wawczak said." "One day I went over to his house and he said ‘Hey, look at this, look at this chick I’m talking to.’ And he pulls out the picture of Ashley,” Wawczak said. “I found it hard to keep a straight face then.” The online romance ended in May when Ashley told Peterson that she had drove by his house and saw him sitting with another woman on his porch. Wawczak said he had heard that Peterson was with this woman and that he decided to make Ashley seem jealous." "Peterson would have found out about it shortly anyway, Wawczak said, because authorities are required to notify the subject of such investigations after the recording ceased. Although the notification would not identify Wawczak and Stark, he said they were the only ones around Peterson enough to make the operation useful. “It wouldn’t take him very long to figure out that it was us,” Wawczak said." |

ILL | 07/25/2008 (suburbanchicagonews.com) "Accusations fly between Peterson and neighbors" "The couple claiming they spied on Drew Peterson for nearly seven months and recorded his conversations for the cops said Thursday that Peterson "disposed" of what they believe was evidence during a visit to their home in December. "He disposed of things in my presence on my property," said Paula Stark who, with her husband Len Wawczak, said she wore a wire at the behest of the State Police and surreptitiously recorded Drew Peterson's conversations." "Stark said her husband was not home when Peterson showed up at her residence. She declined to specify what exactly Peterson got rid of or how he did it. "(Peterson) knows what he disposed of at my house," Stark said. "That's on the tape, and that's something I won't take to my grave." "Stark and Wawczak, who had avoided the media through Wednesday, granted numerous interviews and allowed television crews into their home Thursday. Geraldo Rivera's brother and show correspondent, Craig Rivera, flew in from New York to meet with the couple in the afternoon." "Wawczak said he was not bothered by Brodsky's comments. "I know what we have," Wawczak said. "Drew knows what we have, too." Wawczak also called Peterson a liar, saying the former Bolingbrook police officer's claim that he'd arrested Wawczak regularly was not true. Wawczak said Peterson never arrested him, which police Lt. Ken Teppel corroborated. Teppel, however, said he arrested Wawczak one time himself, picking him up on a disorderly conduct charge in 1999." |
2008-07-25 | abclocal.go.com July 25, 2008 "Wawczak walked out of the police department just after 4:30 p.m. He explained how the confrontation began. "It started with my son, Colin, calling home and letting us know that he was in a barber shop that Drew had come into to get a haircut and was staring my son down, giving him dirty looks. I said, 'Do you feel he is starting with you?' He said, 'No, but he is trying to intimidate me,'" Wawczak said." |
"Absolutely, I pushed him twice, not once. I don't have a problem with that. Like I said, it was the best hundred bucks I've spent. I would do it again," Wawczak said." "Wawczak was charged with a misdemeanor and paid a $100 bond." |
ILL | 07/25/2008 "It was the best hundred bucks I've spent. I would do it again," Wawczak said" "McGury said at about 1:30 p.m. Friday, police received a call from the Illinois State Police that two people were in a verbal altercation at a barber shop. "We responded to the scene, patrol officers and a supervisor, at which point there was no observable battery or any issues between the two, other than some shouting back and forth," McGury said. The chief said police began interviewing witnesses. "We started getting statements. Both Mr. Wawczak and Mr. Peterson agreed to come down to the police department to sort it out. In taking some of the statements, independent witnesses came forward and stated that Mr. Wawczak allegedly had shoved Mr. Peterson in the back at least one time. Based on that information and based upon an interview with Mr. Wawczak, he was charged with a local ordinance charge of battery," McGury said. Wawczak was charged with a misdemeanor and paid a $100 bond. "He will come back here in September and plead guilty or not guilty to the charges," McGury said." "Absolutely, I pushed him twice, not once. I don't have a problem with that. Like I said, it was the best hundred bucks I've spent. I would do it again," Wawczak said." Wawczak said he doesn't have a problem with Drew Peterson and Peterson's lawyer, Joel Brodsky, trying to slam him or his wife because "that is their technique." "They can continue to do it, and I'm sure this will fuel the fire for them. I'm good with that. What I'm not good with and won't be, is trying to intimidate one of my kids. So, if him and Joel continue to do what they are doing, which is slander me and Paula, it is OK. We can battle it out in court. If they try to intimidate one of my three kids, you will be back here again. I expect next time I will get a state charge instead of a local charge because next time I will knock his [expletive] out," Wawczak said. Drew Peterson's attorney, Joel Brodsky briefly stated that Drew had been ambushed. Drew Peterson also left the police department Friday afternoon." |

ILL | 07/26/2008 (www.suntimes.com) "Drew's 'not going to mess with my family'" "At noon Friday, Paula Stark heard from a TV reporter that Drew Peterson was bragging about sleeping with her. Stark and her husband, Len Wawczak, laughed about it at their Bolingbrook home, saying it wasn't true. But an hour later, when their son Len Jr. called to say Peterson was giving him dirty looks at a Bolingbrook barbershop, Wawczak had had enough." "What followed was another sordid chapter in the Peterson saga, an expletive-filled, Jerry Springeresque parking lot dust-up -- witnessed by reporters -- that resulted in Wawczak, 41, shoving Peterson in the back and getting arrested on a battery charge. "I wanted to let Drew know he's not going to mess with my family," Wawczak said after his wife posted his $100 bond. "The next time, I will knock his ass out. "It was the best 100 bucks I've ever spent. I'd do it again." "Then came the barbershop phone call from Len Wawczak Jr. The 20-year-old was getting his hair cut when Peterson walked in. Len Jr. called his parents, telling them Peterson just gave him dirty looks, they said. Peterson denied it. "I was just getting my hair cut, and I saw the kid in the chair," he said later. "I kind of figured he would call his dad." "Wawczak, intent on confronting Peterson about the dirty looks, found a spot between some cars to lie in wait. When Peterson emerged, Wawczak popped out and pounced. "Hey, m-----f-----," he called out. "You ain't nothing but a murderer. I'll beat the f--- out of you. Say something!" "Hit me," Peterson said calmly, putting his hands behind his back. "I'm going down." "You ain't nothing but a punk, Drew!" "Someone call the cops," Peterson told a growing crowd of gawkers. One began videotaping. "Take the cool sunglasses off," Wawczak said, trying to knock them off Peterson, who dodged him. "I ain't Stacy, bitch," Wawczak taunted. "You sissy." "I don't have to deal with this boy," Peterson said and walked away. Wawczak then pushed Peterson in the back. Peterson, who later said his back hurt, brushed it off and got into Stacy Peterson's car. Wawczak walked away, saying, "I proved my point. You're nothing but a bitch. Peterson made a cell phone call and emerged from the car. The crowd yelled for Wawczak to return. "Knock his ass out," someone shouted. "I got 50 bucks of his bond right now," said another." |
2008-07-26 | chicagotribune.com July 26, 2008 "Peterson's attorney Joel Brodsky said he did not know why the incident started and did not know whether his client claimed to have had a sexual relationship with Stark. "I don't know, I don't want to know, I don't need to know," Brodsky said. "All I know is that my client is at home, and the state's confidential informant is charged with misdemeanor battery." |
"Hyroglyphics owner Ernest Brown described the kerfuffle as underwhelming. "It looked like 'Cheaters,' " said Brown, referring to the television show in which people confront their unfaithful lovers." "Brown said Drew Peterson had come in for a haircut, but the barbershop was too busy, so he was referred to another shop." |
ILL | 07/26/2008 "Cops: Drew Peterson, ex-friend scuffle outside barbershop" "Police said Wawczak shoved Peterson twice during a quarrel outside Hyroglyphics Barber Shop on Friday afternoon, witnessed by more than 20 people. Wawczak was charged and released about 4:30 p.m., Bolingbrook Police Chief Ray McGury said. Witnesses said Peterson "was egging him [Wawczak] on, sort of in his personal space," said Bolingbrook Police Lt. Ken Teppel. "But Lenny admitted he shoved him." "Meanwhile, police were curious about circumstances surrounding the incident. Joliet Herald-News reporter Joe Hosey—who has written a book about the Peterson case due to be released this fall—was on the scene when police arrived, and a photograph showing Wawczak and Peterson facing off in the parking lot was posted on the newspaper's Web site while the two men were still at the station giving their statements, McGury said. "It seems odd that I've got Mr. Peterson and him [Wawczak] at the same location," McGury said." "Another police source said Hosey was at the barbershop before authorities arrived. "We got a call from the state police saying, 'You guys gotta get over to this barbershop because Drew and Lenny are getting into it'," said the source. "It sort of stunk to us when we're out there to sort this out and there's already photos posted." "Joliet Herald-News managing editor David Monaghan declined to comment, but Wawczak offered an explanation for Hosey's being there. He said the reporter was at his home interviewing him when Wawczak's son called from the barbershop and Hosey followed him over. "It wasn't staged or anything," Wawczak said." |

The posting comes after Peterson's "friends" Paula Stark and Len Wawczak revealed that they secretly recorded their conversations with Peterson and used Peterson's children to get close to him. The duo also said they were acting as agents for the ISP when they did it. "What is highly disturbing is how the ISP has allowed Drew's children to be severely damaged by the behavior of these informants," Brodsky writes. "The ISP knowingly allowed, or perhaps even directed Wawszak and Stark to become close with the Peterson children... Now these children have to be told it was all an act." The ISP has not commented on whether Wawszak or Stark were working with them on any investigation. |

These descriptions of Len Wawczak and Paula Stark, he says, are far from accurate and he wants to the record straight, according to his publicist, Glenn Selig." |
"Editor's Note: Drew Peterson will not be available for media interview | ILL | 07/27/2008 "Drew Peterson Sets Record Straight on Former 'Friends' Betrayal" Drew Peterson released the following statement: "I first met Len Wawczak about 16 years ago. As a Bolingbrook police officer I was involved in Wawczak arrests for multiple various petty offences, such as drunk and disorderly, misdomeanor gun charges, and battery. "After that, as an officer, I would see Len Wawczak and Paula Stark while I was on neighborhood patrol in my police car. I would stop and talk to them. It was in the capacity of police work, but the contacts were friendly in nature. I would see Wawczak and Stark about once or twice a month in this capacity, and we would engage in friendly conversation. However, I never entered their house, and neither Wawczak or Stark ever came to my home. "After Stacy left, and the Illinois State Police (ISP) towed my cars as 'evidence,' many of my police offier friends abandoned me, and the media surrounded my home. At that point Len Wawczak and Paula Stark showed up and offered to let me use their car when I needed it. They also offered that I could come over to their home to get away from the media, and that they would help me by watching my kids when I needed. I took them up on their offers. Len Wawczak and Paula Stark suddenly started to come over to my house quite often, and engage me in conversation, and now, looking back, pretended to be supportive and friendly so they could record conversations to give to police. Len Wawczak and Paula Stark suddenly began to pay a great deal of attention to my children and put effort into developing a close and loving relationship with the kids apparently in an effort to gain even more access to me. "Len Wawczak and Paula Stark were never my close friends or long-time friends. Further, they are people who we now know took advantage of my children and myself when he I was most vulnerable and needed help." |

DREW PETERSON: "What happened was I found out that the State Police was ah, for no particular reason revoking my gun card and I still had a gun that they missed when they did the search warrant so I had to get rid of it |
ILL | 07/28/2008 (Mike & Juliet Show) "Drew Peterson, Brodsky, Abood, Lenny Wawczak" JULIET: Alright so Drew let's get back to the nuts and bolts here, can you just explain the status of your friendship, whatever you call it, your ex-friendship with Len. How did you guys met, how close were you? - DREW PETERSON: Oh I've known Lenny for many years, maybe as long as sixteen, maybe twenty years, ah, I was a policeman for many years and on many occasions I was involved in Lenny's arrest, you know for nonsense things going on in town, you know simple batteries and drunken disorderly type things. MIKE: Let's talk abut the nonsense being thrown back and forth in the parking lot, are you have sex with Len's wife? - DREW PETERSON: It's not something were going to talk about today I think. - JULIET: Why? - JOEL BRODSKY Ah, it's just not relevant, ah, we're not going to get involved in that. MIKE: Well you also say Drew that you say to them, Lenny and Paula, ah I wish you guys would go burn down the memorial to Stacy. Respond to that? DREW PETERSON: No, that's something Lenny probably said because I remember I was standing out in front of the house and we were shaking our heads at the shrine they have in front of Sharon's house and I believe Lenny made that comment about burning down the little shrine they have there but that wasn't something that was said by me. JULIET: Do you ever joke around about the death of your third wife or your missing fourth wife? DREW PETERSON: Never ever, these are pretty serious issues, nothing I would joke about. MIKE: Did Len and Paula hide one of your guns from the Illinois State Police? DREW PETERSON: Oh that's something that never really actually happened. What happened was I found out that the State Police was ah, for no particular reason revoking my gun card and I still had a gun that they missed when they did the search warrant so I had to get rid of it and Paula and Lenny were over and Paula had a gun card so I simply made a legal transfer to Paula for that gun so.... |

Yeah because the thing of it is, I can tell you this much, my last conversation was from somebody from the Illinois State Police Department and that was today. - LILIA CHACON: Why do you think they want you to leak these damaging information? - LENNY WAWCZAK: "Probably to rattle his cage at which it is indeed working." (VOICE OVER) Wawczak appeared on Fox's morning show with Mike and Juliet Monday morning with Drew Peterson and his two attorneys and Wawczak said their facaud of cool is starting to crumble - LENNY WAWCZAK:"Drew's thing is this, he's famous saying, never let them see ya sweat. Well they dropped the ball yesterday because we got to see him sweat." (VOICE OVER) Wawczak doesn't downplay by his own checkered past but he says he's go no reason to lie. 2008-07-30 | www.foxnews.com July 30, 2008 MEGYN KELLY: "Paula, in particular, had said that Drew said he should have cremated Kathleen's body, and then he wouldn't have had to deal with.." ANDREW ABOOD: He never made those statements, and they will never produce a tape that says he made those statements. |
MEGYN KELLY: "and they called you "Jailhouse Joel" JOEL BRODSKY: "I am not going to go down in the gutter with Mr. Wasczak. That is where he belongs, not me." |
ILL | 07/30/2008 (www.foxnews.com) "Drew Peterson Strikes Back" MEGYN KELLY, FOX NEWS HOST: Joel, let me ask you about this decision today to let the gun charges stand. I guess it is not entirely unexpected. What happens now? - JOEL BRODSKY: Unexpected--we were hoping for a complete dismissal. But the judge found--there were three factors which we moved to dismiss, and the judge found two of them in our favor and said that the third one will have to be resolved at a trial. It's a factual issue, and that is where factual issues are resolved, at trial. - But we prevailed on two of those three prawns(ph) of dismissal, and we're confident. - ANDREW ABOOD Let me just add, one thing that I could add is that everything that Joel has told the media about this case and about these charges has turned out to be true. And if you go back to May 23 when we were outside the courthouse, Joel told the press and the media that the record would show that this was a secondary-duty weapon of Drew Peterson. And, despite the fact that the Bolingbrook Police Department was denying that they had any knowledge of it. MEGYN KELLY, FOX NEWS HOST: And, Joel, I want to get you to react tonight, because we had on this couple who we talked about in the introduction, Len Wawczak and Paula Stark, who wore wires, who taped Drew, and they said on this program on Monday that they think they have enough incriminating evidence to put him in prison for the murder of his third wife Kathleen and, they believe, for what they thing is the murder of his fourth wife, Stacey. Your response, Joel? - JOEL BRODSKY: I am going to let Andy handle a lot of this, but my initial response is we're not afraid of whatever may be taped. They can play the tapes. The tapes will speak for themselves. But as to these people's credibility, let Andy handle to that. - ANDREW ABOOD We have heard those statements, Megyn, and it is clear that not only has he retracted from the statements he is alleged that Drew made, but he is clearly not the material witness he would like to make himself out to become. And we believe, ultimately, he is not a factor in their investigation whatsoever |
