2008-03-17 | suburbanchicagonews February 28, 2008 "Both sides agreed to come to court at 9:30 a.m. March 17 so the judge could check the status of the proceedings." |
"If Drew Peterson wants his cars, guns and computers, he's got to come to court. And he'll have to speak to Will County Judge Richard Schoenstedt." | ILL | 02/28/2008 (www.suburbanchicagonews.com) "Conditions put on Peterson request" "If Drew Peterson wants his cars, guns and computers, he's got to come to court. And he'll have to speak to Will County Judge Richard Schoenstedt. The judge announced that news Wednesday [02/27/2008] morning during a brief hearing." - "At the conclusion of that hearing, Schoenstedt said he wanted to think about the issue and would announce his decision at a later date." "If Peterson's agrees to his conditions, he can have his property, the judge said. But the state will take photographs of the cars, guns and computers to use in a trial if any charges ever are filed against Peterson -- or anyone else -- in connection to the disappearance of Stacy Peterson, the judge said. The state also will copy the information on the hard drive of the computers to use as evidence in any future trial, Schoenstedt said. Additionally, Peterson must agree that he won't challenge the validity of the photographs or the copies of the hard drives if charges are filed, Schoenstedt said. But nothing will be returned if Peterson doesn't come to his courtroom and agree to the conditions, Schoenstedt said." |

"On April 17, Will County Judge Carmen Goodman will consider the possibility of reopening Kathleen Savio's estate." |
ILL | 03/18/2008 (www.suburbanchicagonews.com) "Lawsuit could alter Savio estate" "On April 17, Will County Judge Carmen Goodman will consider the possibility of reopening Kathleen Savio's estate. If she allows that to happen, lawyers for Savio's family could begin investigating the way her estate was handled and the distribution of her assets, including thousands of dollars from the sale of a home and a business she owned with her ex-husband, Drew Peterson. In the end, a wrongful death lawsuit might be filed, those lawyers said Monday [03/17/08] morning." "In Goodman's courtroom Monday [03/17/08], Joel Brodsky, Drew Peterson's Chicago lawyer; Varsek; and Martin Glink, an Arlington Heights-based lawyer who is also working with the Savios, hashed out some scheduling issues. They also submitted documents outlining their arguments. Varsek and Glink asked the court to reopen Savio's estate because there could be new assets to consider. If a wrongful death suit is filed and is successful, there would be damages, meaning money, Varsek explained. In short, that cash would be the newly discovered asset. But Brodsky argued that the possible wrongful death suit isn't part of the original estate or a newly discovered asset. So by law, there's no reason to reopen the estate, he said." "After the brief hearing, Varsek and Glink talked about what happened that morning. "The case will be reopened, and (James Carroll) will be removed, Varsek predicted." - "When Brodsky walked out of the building, he answered only a few questions. Then a light-colored Mercedes sedan appeared in front of the River Valley Justice Center, and Brodsky hopped in. His eyes hidden behind wrap-around sunglasses, Drew Peterson sat in the front passenger seat, chomping gum." |

The flyers face his house and he says only he and his family can see them." - SHARON BYCHOWSKI: "They're intended for everyone of the walkers who read my meter, they're intended for anybody who's in my back yard. I have one in the backside that faces the next street over. I have one in the front that faces the front. I have them all over my house." - WGNTV: "But Peterson says the harrasement has esculated to such a level that his neighbor has even asked people to boycott a neighborhood bar he visits. That's something she denies and said it's ridiculous to think his children are feeling harassed by the flyers." - SHARON BYCHOWSKI: "They're not sad by it. I think they are comforted by Stacy Peterson's sign." - WGNTV: "I know you talked about dating, are they harassing perhaps people who you might go out on a date with or..." - DREW PETERSON: "I think they would if they were allowed if they got access but whenever I got out anywhere I don't broadcast where I'm going to." |
2008-03-17 | Nancy Grace Show March 17, 2008 Attorney Joel Brodsky and Drew Peterson neighbor, Sharon Bychowski on Nancy Grace Show |
Joel Brodsky: "Well, people who post on the site have threatened to poison Drew`s food" |
ILL | 03/17/2008 (Nancy Grace Show) "Judge Orders all but Drew Peterson`s Guns Returned" NANCY GRACE: You know, it seems, according to you and your client, Drew Peterson, that everybody is in a big conspiracy to irritate and hurt Drew Peterson. You say the attorney general won`t let him have his gun license. The police, they keep coming out on these domestic calls. Now there are anonymous death threats. The police won`t follow up. You even claim that his neighbor is stalking him. And in fact, you went to the effort of sending me U.S. code statute 22:61.A as a grounds to prosecute her. How does that apply to his neighbor, may I ask? - JOEL BRODSKY: If you look at the last paragraph, it says whoever uses the mail, any interactive computer service or any facility of interstate or foreign commerce to engage in a course of conduct that causes substantial emotional distress to that person... - NANCY GRACE: And how is the neighbor doing that via computer, may I ask? - JOEL BRODSKY: Well, we have people that kind of track the postings on this Web site that they have, and they`ve actually threatened... - NANCY GRACE: Who is "they"? - JOEL BRODSKY: Well, people who post on the site have threatened to poison Drew`s food. They`ve threatened to -- they track his whereabouts. They`ve threatened to... - NANCY GRACE: And you can prove the neighbor is one of these people you`re referring to? - JOEL BRODSKY: Yes. Absolutely. Roy Taylor (ph), her son, is the one that started one of the worst threats that we went through, where they -- the majority of these threats and... - NANCY GRACE: I assume you`re referring to Sharon Bychowski? - JOEL BRODSKY: Sharon`s son, Roy. That`s correct. |
2008-03-17 | Nancy Grace Show March 17, 2008 Sharon Bychowski |
SHARON: "You know, if you can read my sign, it says nothing about Drew Peterson" |
ILL | 03/17/2008 (Nancy Grace Show) "Judge Orders all but Drew Peterson`s Guns Returned" SHARON BYCHOWSKI: My response to Joel is I think he`s fishing. He should be looking for Stacy Peterson. No one has ever, ever threatened Drew Peterson. What we have simply said is, Let`s all go out as a group and look for Stacy. And that`s our only intention. We need to bring this girl home. Drew, I leave that to the Illinois State Police. This is my concern. Let`s bring home Stacy Peterson. - NANCY GRACE: Miss Bychowski, how do you respond to allegations that you are stalking Drew Peterson? - SHARON BYCHOWSKI: You know, if you can read my sign, it says nothing about Drew Peterson. Actually, to my point before, I leave all that up to the state police. I only care about my good friend, who`s been missing since October. And I just want to bring her home. |
2008-03-17 | Nancy Grace Show March 17, 2008 "Illinois has what`s called the "slayer statute," which means that if you establish that somebody killed the deceased, they can`t inherit from the estate." |
$3 Million Dollars? | ILL | 03/17/2008 (Nancy Grace Show) "Judge Orders all but Drew Peterson`s Guns Returned" JOEL BRODSKY: The Savio family. They`ve moved to reopen the estate... - NANCY GRACE: Well, do you blame them? I mean, her death has been ruled a homicide now. - JOEL BRODSKY: Right. The problem that they have is that they moved to open the estate to administer a wrongful death case. However, the statute of limitations ran over two years ago. - JEFFREY SKATOFF, WILL AND PROBATE ATTORNEY: Nancy, as far as reopening the estate goes, Illinois has what`s called the "slayer statute," which means that if you establish that somebody killed the deceased, they can`t inherit from the estate. Under Illinois law, there is no statute of limitations to apply to the "slayer statute" in a probate estate. - JOEL BRODSKY: But Drew did not inherit from the estate. What they want to do is open up -- reopen the estate to administer what they`re calling a new asset. But that asset doesn`t exist. A lawsuit which -- for which the statute of limitations has run out is not an asset. - NANCY GRACE: According to Savio`s family, there were $3 million at stake in Savio`s estate. - JOEL BRODSKY: Yes, that was the insurance proceeds, which went to the children, not to Drew. |

Peterson's computers with copied hard drives to be returned in 15 days Judge Richard Schoenstedt set a March 25 hearing on the guns issue |
ILL | 03/18/2008 www.suburbanchicagonews.com "CARS, YES; GUNS, NO" "Circuit Judge Richard Schoenstedt cleared the way for Peterson to pick up his GMC Denali and Pontiac Grand Prix from the state police, and he will be able to retrieve his computers and copies of their hard drives in the next 15 days. But Peterson still can't get his guns back because he was stripped of his firearm owner's identification card last month at the behest of State's Attorney James Glasgow. Peterson is appealing the state police decision to revoke his FOID card." "Peterson won the right to reclaim his vehicles under the condition he not dispute the more than 250 photographs state police took of them as possible evidence if a criminal case is brought against him. But without a FOID card, Peterson, who on Monday [03/17/2008] appeared in court for the first time in connection with the matter, can no longer possess any of his eight handguns, three long guns." "Brodsky asked Schoenstedt to turn the guns over to Peterson's son, Stephen Peterson. An Oak Brook police officer, Stephen Peterson holds a valid FOID card, Brodsky said. Since Stephen Peterson has not been a party to any of these proceedings, and may not be aware of the responsibilities and ramifications, Schoenstedt held off on deciding whether to give him the guns until a hearing next week [03/25/2008]." |

"Drew's received a number of death threats," he said. "The sheriff thought, for safety reasons, to bring him through the sally port rather than the front door." Sheriff Paul Kaupas, who worked with Peterson in the undercover Metropolitan Area Narcotics Squad in the 1980s, shook Peterson's hand in a courthouse hallway prior to the hearing. Brodsky handed over his information to the FBI. | ILL | 03/18/2008 "Drew Peterson's lawyer says Bolingbrook neighbors harassing ex-cop" "The attorney for Drew Peterson has gone on the attack against neighbors of his client, accusing them of cyber-stalking and organizing ways to harass him. "They're keeping track of where he goes, what he does and who he sees," said Joel Brodsky, Peterson's attorney. "They're also in the course of putting up [Find Stacy Peterson] signs along where he drives. . . . Then you put on top of that their own statements [that they] do these things to make his life miserable, that is a course of conduct designed to cause Drew substantial emotional distress." Brodsky handed over his information to the FBI. BRODSKY: "His client has been the target of ridicule and threats on blogs and online forums" |
ILL | 03/18/2008 "Drew Peterson's lawyer says Bolingbrook neighbors harassing ex-cop" "Late last month, Bychowski put up signs asking "Where is Stacy?" in her house windows, as well as a 3-by-4-foot sign outside her home. She said four of her neighbors in their cul-de-sac plan to rotate the large sign in their yards. "We're hoping for the hundreds of people who drive through the court every week, [someone] will have the courage to call the tip line," Bychowski said. Brodsky said Peterson is being harassed. His client has been the target of ridicule and threats on blogs and online forums. At times when the news media attention is especially intense, Peterson gets as many as several death threats a week, Brodsky said. "It's a mob mentality that has run away, but there are laws that I assume will be enforced," Brodsky said. "The people who are responsible are not only the posters but the people who run the Web site and allow these postings to take place." |

"Five months and we haven't heard anything from Stacey. We know she's not on vacation," Simmons said. "It's just hard. The family is planning even more searches for Stacy as the spring arrives. Loved ones have placed "Find Stacy" posters in hundreds of locations, including many on Pheasant Chase Court, some facing the Peterson home. Peterson's attorney, Joel Brodsky, said Peterson was not happy about it. "There is a difference between trying to find Stacy and trying to harass Drew," said Brodsky. "It's not even a fine line, it's a very bold line, and they have crossed it." Peterson said he was spending $1,600 a month renting a car while police had his vehicles. Peterson's next-door neighbor, who left a garage door opener in one of the cars, filed a restraining order against Peterson on Tuesday. After Peterson opened her garage door, she demanded that he give it back, but he refused." "He is expected to be in court March 25 to discuss the return of his 11 guns." |

His next-door neighbor, Sharon Bychowski told NBC5 she tried to file an order of protection against him, but it was refused by police because it did not meet the criteria." - "Bychowski said her garage door opener was in Stacy Peterson's car and that, as Drew Peterson was checking different openers on Tuesday, he opened her garage. She said when she demanded the opener back, he refused. Bychowski said she now plans to install security cameras in her home." |

"I feel closer to Stacy and Kathleen than ever." Bychowski's recent trepidation was induced by Peterson's newfound and brief ability to open and close her garage door at will." -"Peterson reclaimed his two cars from the state police Tuesday morning. Inside the cars he found three garage door openers. One was programmed to open Bychowski's garage. Drew said he was unaware of this until he hit the button and Bychowski's garage opened. Bychowski said she gave Stacy the opener so she could store items there for a garage sale. She says she told the state police of the opener and that she believed it was in Peterson's home. Somehow, they failed to find it. "They said they searched the car," she said. "They looked in the car. It was not in there. They looked in the house, it was not in there." |

Ken Teppel, but he refused, claiming it belonged to him. The matter was recorded in a police report, the second since Friday, when Peterson's attorney, Joel Brodsky, said [Roy] Taylor was harassing and threatening Peterson via the Internet. Police spoke to Bychowski and Taylor, but took no action. Taylor denies Brodsky's allegations. Taylor said he reprogrammed his mother's garage door opener Tuesday to keep Peterson from fiddling with it, but Bychowski said she wanted a restraining order against Peterson. "Then I'll get one on her and Roy," said Peterson, who also spoke of his wish to leave the bad blood in his subdivision behind, if only he could." |

Peterson's mother, Betty Morphey, and stepfather, Albert Morphey, would not discuss their testimony." "But Stacy Peterson's mother-in-law is optimistic the young woman might return. ILL | 03/21/2008 (cbs2chicago.com) "Police Confiscated 12th Gun From Drew Peterson" "Police confiscated a dozen guns from former Bolingbrook police sergeant Drew Peterson, but say Peterson kept one hidden from investigators in the course of the search for his wife, Stacy Peterson. CBS 2 West Suburban Bureau Chief Mike Puccinelli reports the gun is so small it can be concealed in a belt buckle. And a source close to the Stacy Petersen investigation says Drew Petersen concealed a mini-revolver so well in his house that Illinois state police officers never found it, despite the fact that search warrants were executed netting 11 other firearms. The source says the gun, a Derringer, is now in possession of the Illinois State Police." "Peterson's lawyer says his client never stashed a 12th gun. "After the searches did Drew have a gun in his possession? The answer to that is no," said attorney Joel Brodsky. But Peterson's former friend Rick Mims has said that Peterson showed him the weapon after the initial warrants boasting about how authorities missed the gun. Mims was called in by police recently to identify the gun after it was secured by police. Brodsky says Mims is a liar out to make a buck for himself. "That's just Rick Mims probably trying to shop another story to the National Enquirer," he said." "Sources wouldn't reveal who gave them the 4 by 2-1/2 inch gun. Brodsky says he doesn't know either. "It wasn't in his house when they searched it. If they got it, it was in somebody else's possession," he said. |

Newsworthy? Hmm, maybe because the "honorable retired career cop" LIED to the Illinois State Police? |
ILL | 03/22/2008 (www.crimefilenews.com) "Drew Peterson’s Secret Gun!" Posted by Crimefile at 3/22/2008 02:42:00 PM "So a guy convicted of nothing who may be a suspect may have had a gun police missed while serving a search warrant. Peterson’s former friend made that “shocking” claim recently. Peterson, an honorably retired career cop is under the media and law enforcement microscope because his young wife is missing. There is no probable cause that Peterson has done anything wrong. No evidence of any crime connected to peterson has been uncovered. The so-called Secret Gun is a tiny and ineffective,.22, offering from North American Arms. . It’s a single action novelty item that’s a lot less deadly than a good knife. Why was this silliness newsworthy?" |

ILL | 03/24/2008 (chicagoTribune) "Drew Peterson must wait longer to learn fate of his 11 guns" "Drew Peterson will have to wait a few more weeks to learn whether his guns will be returned, due to postponement until April of a hearing that had been set for Tuesday." - "Attorney Joel Brodsky suggested that Schoenstedt place the guns in the possession of Peterson's son, Stephen, an Oak Brook police officer, while the card revocation is appealed. Schoenstedt was expected to decide the matter Tuesday, but both parties agreed Monday to postpone the hearing to April 17" "In my opinion, I believe it has to do with the 12th gun," Brodsky said, referring to a folding handgun that police recently asked Peterson's former friend, Ric Mims, to identify. "We've explained our position with that gun. It has not been in his possession for months." Brodsky said the gun was recently recovered by state police from a person who had gotten it from Peterson. "How the police got it from [the other person] is a mystery to me," Brodsky said. "But it's not like we were hiding the gun." |

ILL | 03/18/2008 (www.nbc5.com) "Drew Peterson Gets Cars Back From Police" Peterson had told Stacy's children that she was on vacation.

Drew Peterson sighted with his own children and unknown female with child at the Great Wolf Lodge in Wisconsin. | ILL | 03/25/2008 (www.findstacypeterson.com) Thread titled, "nancy grace- march 25" www.findstacypeterson.com forum posting by btinker, Member, Posts: 4, "Re: nancy grace- march 25" Reply #33 on: Today [03/25/08] at 08:44:40 PM, Quote: "I just spoke with a friend of mine that works at a place in Wisconsin Dells called "Great Wolf Lodge" and they said that Drew Peterson booked a room for 2 adults and 5 children. And sure enough they seen him check into the lodge today .... they also said that he is there with a female and the female has a child with her as well ... This just makes me sick & so upset ... My friend said that a 2 night stay there is over $1,400.00 ...Now i am not against Drew taking his kids for some fun ( because soon he wont be able to do that ) but did he have to bring some female with him or have some female meet him there and with her kid ? ... Drew should be out looking for his Wife / Mother of his kids and not off at some lodge trying to romance another female ... Why dont he take the money that he is saving now from not having to rent a vehicle and donate that to the search efforts instead of spending it on some female ... And can you imagine what them little kids are thinking right now ? their mom is missing ( Drew says off on a vacation --ahhh foooie ) and Dad is there at " GREAT WOLF LODGE " spending 1/2 of Stacy's money on some bimbo and her kid and the other kids will probably have to babysit her kid when the little ones go to sleep so Drew can have romance time then will have to keep quiet about daddy's playtime when they get back home... Geez Drew you are low class !!!!!!" |

Stacy Peterson Family Press Conference | ILL | 03/27/2008 "Stacy Peterson's sister says searches will resume soon" "Assured early on by authorities that her sister, Stacy Peterson, did not leave home by choice, Cassandra Cales is more determined than ever to know what happened to the young Bolingbrook mom who vanished five months ago. "Illinois State Police have come to me and told me that my sister did not leave willingly, which is what my gut instinct was Oct. 28," Cales said. Buoyed by a break in the seemingly endless winter, Cales and friends of Stacy held a news conference Wednesday to announce they were eager to resume the search for answers. They could begin as early as this weekend, weather permitting." "Drew Peterson believes that my sister left and we should be searching in other towns or Thailand and Jamaica and she left on vacation," Cales said. "But the reason we are searching bushes and under rocks and, basically, we're going to turn Bolingbrook upside down [is] because my sister did not leave willingly. She was taken." "At the news conference, Cales appealed to the public for help. Search coordinator Roy Taylor said training videos will be shown Saturday to help prepare volunteers to safely search, mark suspicious locations and not disturb possible evidence. He said state police suggested the videos, provided by the Will County and Lyons emergency management teams. They will be shown from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex, 200 S. Lindsey Lane. Because of the room's size, the session is limited to about 50 people." |

- | ILL | 03/26/2008 "Rift opens between mayor, police chief over release of information" "A string of robberies in this Chicago suburb has exposed a rift between the police chief and the mayor over how and when to release public information. Chief Ray McGury suggests the disagreement can be traced to the attention brought to the town by the Drew Peterson case. For months after Peterson's wife, Stacy, disappeared Oct. 28, the national media spotlight was focused on Bolingbrook, where Peterson worked as a police officer for 30 years. In December, Mayor Roger Claar ordered that all news releases be approved by him before being sent out. "I can only surmise that it has something to do with the Peterson media blitz. We were getting inundated," McGury said. "The Bolingbrook Police Department handled the media calls. . . . I don't know if that's necessarily unusual (because) it was a police department matter." "Village attorney James Boan, speaking for Claar, said there is no obligation on behalf of the village to issue press releases. Adding that there's nobody trained at the police department as a public information officer." |

I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy," said Stacy's sister, Cassandra Cales." "Drew Peterson is vacationing at a Wisconsin water park, one of his friends said Wednesday. His attorney, Joel Brodsky, returned calls for comment. Brodsky dismissed Cales' assertion. "They've been saying that all along," he said. "God bless them," Brodsky said. "This is America. I can't stop them from wasting their time. They can search every bush, pond and river in the state of Illinois if that makes them happy." Brodsky was disappointed Stacy's family would not even entertain the notion that his client was right. "If they would just consider, as a possibility that she started her life over overseas, Drew would certainly contribute to that (search) effort," he said." |

Neil Schori was a minister at Westbrook Christian Church in Bolingbrook, when Stacy supposedly told him about her husband, Drew Peterson, coming clean about killing Kathleen Savio. In December, Schori said Stacy made her shocking revelation during a meeting between the two of them in a Bolingbrook coffee shop. Schori said Stacy blurted out the shocking accusation in August. She was last seen alive about two months later." - "Schori declined to comment on what he discussed in front of the grand jury as he departed Thursday afternoon. Schori no longer works at the Bolingbrook church. After the meeting with Stacy, he moved on to head up Naperville Christian Church." |

Dr. Larry W. Blum is the forensic pathologist who performed the Nov. 13 autopsy. In his report, he determined that "compelling evidence exists to support the conclusions that the cause of death . . . was drowning and further, that the manner of death was homicide." |
