Meanwhile, volunteers with sonar equipment resumed their search of a nearby body of water on private property in Plainfield, said Dennis Watters, of St. Louis, who volunteered the use of his equipment. This means that the authorities may elect to exhume her body in their re- investigation. What would they look for? Dr. Baden can tell us best…but I do know one thing, they would look for fractures since that might indicate this was not an accidental death. It would not be a proof - only a clue indicating the possibility that it was not an accident. Regarding Kathleen Savio | "Will County Coroner Patrick O'Neil said late Wednesday he disagreed with the finding of an inquest that the 2004 death of a Bolingbrook police sergeant's third wife was an accident, even as volunteers continued their search for the sergeant's fourth wife." - "O'Neil said in a written statement that the coroner's jury ruled Savio's death was an accident, but that he had concerns. "It was my opinion that, at the very least, her death should have been ruled 'undetermined,' " O'Neil said. Savio's family believed the death was suspicious, O'Neil said, and Wednesday they gave the Tribune a copy of her autopsy report." - [11/08/2007 "Coroner disagrees with inquest finding"] |
2007-11-07 00:00 PM Will County Coroner Patrick O'Neil disputes Savio death an accident |
Regarding Kathleen Savio | "O'Neil noted that if a recent state law allowing coroners to bypass the jury process were in place in 2004, the ruling would have been different. He [Will County Coroner Patrick O'Neil] said he had "every confidence the police agency [Illinois State Police] that investigated the case would present its reports to the Will County state's attorney's office for review." Jeff Tomczak was state's attorney at that time, and O'Neil said that any criminal charges would have been his responsibility, and that criminal charges could be lodged regardless of a coroner's jury ruling." Regarding Kathleen Savio | "State's Atty. James Glasgow said last week that his office was reviewing the investigation of Savio's death. Savio's family members said they welcome reopening the investigation, even if it includes exhuming her body. The state's attorney's office has discussed that possibility, officials said. "Are we open to it? Are you kidding?" asked her sister, Anna Marie Doman. "She'd be having a party up there. I know [exhumation] is kind of creepy, but if that's what it takes, that's what it takes." Medical records and letters obtained from Savio's relatives outline a pattern of alleged abuse and frustration with a lack of action by Bolingbrook police." 2007-11-08 00:00 Steve Carcerano was a neighbor and locksmith that Drew Peterson asked to open Kathleen Savio's locked door in 2004 and found her dead in a waterless bathtub |
Drew started screaming, "Oh my God, oh my God! What am I gonna tell my kids?" | "Steve Carcerano, who was Peterson's neighbor when he was married to Savio, said finding the body would be forever fused into his memory. "It's something you'd see in a movie; it was something I'll never forget," he said. Peterson has summoned his neighbor to the house, because Peterson said he hadn't heard from his estranged wife in nearly two days, Davlantes reported. Peterson told Carcerano, who was a locksmith and was going to be at the house soon, to open up the house and see what was going on. "I went from the closet to the bathroom," Carcerano said. "It looked like there was a rubber exercise ball or something in the whirlpool. When I looked down, it was Kathy. She was naked -- she was dead -- hair over her face." Carcerano, who said Peterson was steps behind him when the body was discovered in the home that Savio and Peterson owned, described Peterson's reaction when he saw Savio's body. "He ran upstairs and upon seeing her, he just broke down and started screaming, 'Oh my God, oh my God! What am I gonna tell my kids?'" Carcerano said." - [11/08/2007 "Neighbor Who Found Savio"] |

"I looked at the photograph and it was clear it wasn’t an accident," one official said. |
"They also received court approval to exhume the body of the previous wife of Drew Peterson after prosecutors said her death appeared to have been staged as an accidental drowning." - "I looked at the photograph and it was clear it wasn’t an accident," one official said. But in a petition the Will County state's attorney filed Friday listing the reasons authorities want to exhume Savio's body, prosecutors said a review of evidence in the case "is consistent with the 'staging' of an accident to conceal a homicide." Prosecutors said they reviewed photographs of the crime scene and autopsy, the autopsy protocol, and police reports. "The 1-inch gash in the back of Kathleen Savio's head did not render her unconscious, which would have been necessary for her to accidentally drown in the bathtub," the petition stated. Will County Circuit Court Judge Daniel J. Rozak signed the petition granting the exhumation Friday. It was not immediately clear when the body would be exhumed." Comment by Margaret from Bolingbrook, November 13th, 2007 at 7:47 pm "Greta- When I was in high school we lived next door to the Petersons on Seminole Ln in Bolingbrook. At the time, Drew was a K-9 officer. Our dog, a shepherd and his dog used to run side by side along our back fences. This used to piss Drew off so bad, because it wore away the grass that he would beat his dog. It was not uncommon for my mother to be yelling at him from the back window to stop beating his dog. On one occasion his wife appeared in the front of the house crying and with a black eye. She had two teenage sons and they both were very quiet and kept to themselves. My father (also a cop) gave Drew permission to “watch” me and if he saw me on the streets or with my friends to send me home, which he did on only one occasion. He was then as you see him now on TV, Sunglasses, No smiling or reactions. Just stone cold. Subsequently, I went on to do my inernship with the Bolingbrook Police Dept. and became a Police Officer in Chicago. People knew this man was an abuser, but there is a Code when you are a cop to never tell on another cop. Police protect eachother. No one in my neighborhood, my parents included called the Police on Drew when he beat his wife or dog. Back then, you just kept quiet. Im sure that is why his wife’s death was called “accidental" - [11/13/2007 GRETAWIRE Blog Forum] |
